View Full Version : How old are you?

Curious to see how old most of the fans on this site are. Ive read a lot of threads and notice that a lot of fans say they just got into Moz with YATQ. Which leads me to "assume" they must be teenagers.
So how old you?

 I cannot believe the youth here! A lot of you guys -- I won't name names -- sound much more mature (and I'm sure are) than your ages would led one to assume. Fantastic, really. Something about Moz that attracts the intelligent, I think (he said, with no hint of self-satisfaction)...

i am 23.
someone i use to live with introduced me to morrissey just after "you are the quarry" was released.
he was watching "the complete picture" one day and i joined him. when the video for "how soon is now started to play, i couldn't believe what i was hearing. this was a song that i never knew what the name was or who made it, but i always loved it.
i became a fan right then and there.

33. Fan of the Smiths since the mid 80's, back when I had everything on cassette, and use to put a small length of "scotch" tape across the top of them on both sides in an effort to keep the song titles from wearing off of the tapes from continued play. The funny thing is my mum and pop use to make fun of "my" music. LOL

I reckon one of the more admirable qualities about Morrissey and The Smiths music is as a gawky teenager one feels there is a voice of comfort and empathy.
And as a gawky 20 or 30-something you really appreciate the irony and humour that are prevalent within most of the lyrics/ vocal quips.

Oh no -
I was cruising youtube (looking for Jake Gyllenhaal's performance on SNL) when I, er, accidentally ran into Morrissey on "The Tonight Show" with JOHNNY f****ng CARSON!
It looks like ancient history - like the Beatles on Ed Sullivan.
The Smiths are positively antedeluvian.
Still, if Morrissey feels like being Morrissey at 47 - if he's game enough to get up on stage and continue this drama, then I'm more than happy, at 41, to play along. Life is for the living, after all.

Yes indeed, was some article in a tabloid that about 20% of the hairdressers have been asked to make a Morrissey-haircut. And CD-specialisten has a fairly good collection of Morrissey/The Smiths stuff. Do you have any other place to recommend?

I read that article too. It was hillarious. But wasn't that one or two years ago? I guess now 20% of the haircuts are emo-fringes.
Yes, but CD-specialisten isn't a very good record shop anymore. It's all about the t-shirts now.
Unfortunately "Udda Ting" closed.. They sometimes had lovely things.

Sometimes you can find some nice things in the second hand at CD-specialisten but yes that's all.
Yes the emo's are plentiful these days, have even seen hiphopers (50 cent style) convert to emos:( . The end is near!

I used to like BD very much. I got bored with them though, don't know why..
But Håkan H's just too much. It's amusing to hear how much he steals from Morrissey and Smiths. A Håkan-girl once said "Why is that old man stealing Håkans words?" after hearing Everyday is like Sunday.

What!? Oh my, those Håkan fans I know know about that he's a large Moz fan (some week ago he said in GP that it was "Hatful Of Hollow" that made him begin to listen to music). Funny how his fan has managed to miss him. Too bad all of his covers are really bad. Well, it's up to Navid Modiri to save Göteborg's honour, don't you say;)

It's awful. I guess some of the Håkans fans i know are just into that swedish indiepop and doesn't care about any other music. It's just BD, Kent, Timo, and Marit.
Modiri's really good. I love when he sings "Jag åker spårvagn!" in "Min ofödde bror".

I turned 18 last November, but I became interested in The Smiths & Morrissey in 2005 when I treated myself to The Very Best Of The Smiths. After spending Christmas devouring the CD with repeated listen after listen, I decided to do away with it (gave it away to a friend) and bought the individual albums, first The Smiths, then Morrissey. I've become a hardened devotee.

MEGA!!! Man, I was at the first ever Moz "Los Angeles" gig in Costa Mesa, Too in shock to even recall most of it. Then again at the second leg of the KU tour, at Pauley Pavillion, from the nosebleads, I made it all the way down to the front row. Almost got killed as fans fell on top of me, some guy reached out and pulled me up from the floor of the massive pit. Got my flight jacket stolen that night, as Id left it on my seat when Moz said it was ok to get up from our seats.:p I can laugh about it now but, at the time it was terrible.

No, you're just the oldest who wrote down their age. :D
One of the greatest things about seeing Morrissey live, was the vast range of people he appeals to. There were people in the audience who weren't even thought of when Hand in Glove was released - Never mind Suedehead. And others who were old enough to have been at his first gig. If they were 18-30y/o then (some may have been older, no?), they're all be in their 40's and 50's by now. Don't most other music outfits have one or two neat little age demographic that their fans fit into?
Me, I'm voting 25-36, but' I'll soon be moving "up a level", in which case I'll be joining Grim's political movement. TQID was my first album. it came at a good time in my life.

I'm 35. A fan since Suedehead. I liked The Smiths a lot but then...I liked many, many bands in the early 80s. I noticed Morrissey more when his solo stuff started... it was like..."Oh, that's Morrissey fromThe Smiths isn't it?!!.... this is pretty good stuff..." Then I was off to Woolworths to buy The Smiths back catalogue and then the solo ones as they were released.

Try subtracting 1986 from 1989 once more...I think you'll get a different number...
You should get 3...but taking in consideration the birthday I was 4...not 2.

31. 32 in 8 days time. If I was a professional footballer I'd be termed as a 'veteran'. Now THAT is depressing!
