View Full Version : Do you like Sweetie-Pie?

Initially, there were a load of knee-jerk reactions to the song, most of them, unfortunately, were negative.
Has your opinion changed, or are you still as blinkered and unrepentant as when you posted how much you hated it, after only hearing it once?
WHY!

I really love it!! It's so strange and the way they singing that high. I love it!
And I have to admit: I love Kristeen Young! Her voice is incredible. Her music is quite unsorted sometimes but I like the music anyway and the way she sings and I like her clothes. :)

I wasn't aware that she actually wore any clothes.
If she's ever sexually assaulted, I suspect the judge will pronounce that she contributed to her own misfortune.

Uh. Do you loathe her that much? I'm a girl and I like clothes (of course :D ) and I'm sewing clothes by myself in my spare time and I like clothes you can't buy in a normal shop. And while she was singing I always thought that I'd really like to sew her clothes because they are so unsusal but very creative.
I noticed Kristeen's music sounds better on CD than live. I've seen her twice and at the first gig the sound was awful and I thought "that's too much for me but I sense the potential" and at the second gig the sound was much much better and I thought "wow, there IS the potential!" and until that gig I really like her.
But it's the same with Morrissey: either you love him/her or you hate him/her. And you belong to the second group. And I noticed the group of people who don't like her is really big. I didn't meet another person who like her. Oh no, stop, there was a danish boy on the Hamburg gig who was really into her. So we are two people now. :)

I think she's lovely and I love what she doesn't wear.

On the first poll concerning Tweetie Pie it was more 50/50...wasn't it?
I still don't like it.

I was all for something completely different, but I have only listened to it a couple of times since that first day.

It's a grower. To me, it sounds timeless and other-worldly and ballad-y.
Plus I love the line..
"Sweetie Pie
How I feel in my mind
And how I live in the world
They are oceans apart"
And the ethereal outro..

I love it now but I didn't the very first time I heard it. I didn't exactly dislike it either, but it was so not what I expected my first thought was WTF? But after listening a couple of times, I decided I loved it. I can hear quite a lot of Kristeen Young's influence in it.
About Kristeen - I didn't know what I would think when I saw her live, but I immediately liked her, & I now have a few of her songs on my ipod which get listened to quite often. Some of her songs remind me a little of Prince (during the 80s) of all people.

No, I appreciate the fact he's trying something different and it has some great lyrics but it's just too wierd for me.

I listened to it once, horrified, appaled and mighty embarrassed at how bad it was. I swore I'd never listen to it again - life's too short!

Yes it is a lovely lyric. What struck me was how similar it was to a previous one from the eponymous track from 'Maladjusted':
"When the gulf between all the things I need
And the things I receive,
is an ancient ocean wide, wild, lost, uncrossed ..."
I would say the second one is better lyrically.
Otherwise I feel that Sweetie Pie was a stand-out track, no really. Maybe in my dim and distant fantasy world we could have a double album, one containing the obligatory rock-pop tracks, the other a trancey experiential disc that demands multiple listens and is quintessentially interesting. How Soon is Now? might belong to the second disc.

"Sweetie Pie
I'm ending my life
Because I've fallen in love
And enough is enough"
Sweeie pie is so sad it makes me want to cry, i love it.
But then the sad songs always do it for me.

I seriously love this song, I did when I first heard it and still do. Somehow it's my third most listened to song on my ipod, I'm amazed I've listened to it that much but then I am slightly addicted to it. The way their voices soar off at the end is just sooo good, still makes me shiver as to how beautiful it is.
