View Full Version : The Smyths - 4 Feb, Leeds

Just wondered how many from this site are planning on going to The Roscoe in Leeds on 4 Feb?

There seems to be a fair old contingent in West Yorkshire who come on the site now. Okay, Sunday nite is not the best to have good old knees-up, but I'll still be there and it would be good to meet up with a few of you before/during the gig.

The band are well-worth seeing, for those of you who haven't yet seen them. A rollicking good nite in store, i would say.

Ohhhh I'd like to see them but it's term-time so I'm not in the promised land :(

Well, I've been overwhelmed by the response to this posting. :(

Looks like it's just me + all my mates, then - as per bloody usual.

We'll let you know...

"Billy" :rolleyes:

I will be there all being well, I need to stop off there though to collect my tickets, so I can do that coming out of town one day. Apparently this is the closest I will come to seeing The Smiths, hope to see some people there.

Aly, organise a Morrissey after party, put me on the decks, and the Manchester masses will come :p

I would go, but I hate Leeds.

Fuck me, your like buses...

Nothing for over a week on this one and then you all roll along together.

See you in the bar, then (with my head on the bar).

P.S. Sister Steve - tempted as I am to rush to Leeds' defence, I spent nearly 15 years in Mamchester (well, Strangeways counts, doesn't it?), so have divided loyalties, but shall we leave this debate for another tussle?

I've only been to Leeds once and that was just Roundhay park. I will try and make it, though my inner voice already doubts me.

Well Leeds int that bad really. I had a good day there yesterday. It's just the most overrated city in the UK. It's not that special. I much prefer Manchester even though I love West Yorkshire.
Me and Lilybett were talking about going to this, we are going to the S&G on fri, the other smiths on sat, so maybe we could make it a full smiths themed weekend, if we have the energy/money.

Make a weekend of it, get in the Irish pub over the road from the Renault garage beforehand (is it The Regent?)- the beer is cheaper.

We'll see...
Where's it at? the roscoe? where is that?

It's on Regent Street in Sheepscar, a short walk/taxi ride from town. If you don't know where you're going get a taxi, it'll be a couple of quid.

Yes
I think I would have to.
Leeds really confuses me, me and Lilybett got very lost yesterday!

The lead singer from The Smyths is on the Steve Wright show today on Radio 2. I'm definitely going to this and looking forward to seeing everyone from here.

Does anyone know their set list roughly? Is it mainly big hits or do they delve into some more obscure tracks e.g. Wonderful Woman? Also, I relaise they are a Smiths tribute band but do they do any Morrissey stuff? I am also off to the Stone Roses Experience in March so if anyone else is by any chance going (it is at Leeds Met) it would be good to meet some people as it looks like going on my own at the moment this is their myspace: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=92312227

Excellent!

Glad to see some familiar names going (although, other than Aly P, don't know how I'll recognise anyone).

(If anybody saw the BBC Culture Show Living Icon programme, I was the one next to Uncleskinny in the Moz contingent [does 3 constitute a contingent?!] - so please make yourself known)

Practising Troublemaker - here is a link to The Smyths website + set-list

http://www.thesmyths.net/setlist.htm

Yes, they do FOTGTD, IBEH, LOTFIP + they have 1 or 2 more on the set-list, like Suedehead. I notice Daddy's Voice is on the list now but I haven't seen them do that. Also, on their website, they've been asking which song from ROTT they should cover, but none appear to have been added to the set-list yet.

Re. Stone Roses Experience - will see later about this. Saw a SR trib band in Burnley last year, but can't remember if it's this one or not. They were very good. Think it may have been Complete SRs, or Fool's Gold - although haven't the latter split up now?

Sorry, forgot to answer original question. It's mainly the hits. No 'obscure' stuff. 1 or 2 better-known album tracks.

Thanks for the information, I believe The Smyths are playing again in the New Roscoe on something like June 10th according to Jumbo Records website.

How fast do tickets sell for The Smyths gigs?

I heard that when they played Dublin quite a lot of people had to be turned away. You can get tickets in advance from the pub itself or from Jumbo Records in Leeds if you want to be on the safe side.

I think that most people pay on the door, but each time they play seems to be more popular than the last.

I was told by Roscoe staff that only one trib band - The Jamm - has sold the place out. If your there by 8.45 you should be ok.

It was the Dublin Castle in London I think, Sarah - see quote from Smyths w'site below.

"Thanks to the 200 who came to the show at The Dublin Castle and sorry to the same number who couldn't get in. It was a great night and we are now in discussion with the promoters, Bugbear, for our next show with them to be at a much bigger venue."

Just went and picked up my tickets, £7 in advance sales which was not bad. The lady there said that if you were buying ont he door they would be about a tenner.

Prices are going up each time they play too, now - a sign of popularity, I guess.

Best get there + save myself six quid then; cheers.

No, just a sign of John Keenan (promoter at The Roscoe) wanting to make some more money.
I sadly cannot make it - gutted!!!

Does anyone know whether there is ever any merchandise sold at The Smyths gigs, e.g. CDs, shirts??
