Hi,
Is there a site which explains what references Johnny Marr uses for his songs? I remember he liked one of James Taylor's songs and he used the riff for one of his songs. There is a Light... he used Marvin Gaye's Hitchhike.
Also, there was a site that had all of Morrissey's lyrical references that he nicked.
Thanks.

If anyone knows the career of Pentangle and Bert Jansch (I don't) they might come up with a few because I once read a comment from someone that Johnny has spent his career ripping off Bert. I'm sure that's a gross exaggeration but there are probably a few steals in there because Bert is his favourite. I tried listening to Pentangle once and couldn't stand it so I'm completely in the dark. :p

Dont know about websites, but get a copy of Simon Goddard's second edition of 'Songs That saved Your Life' as Johnny Marr contributed to this updated edition.

In "Songs To Save Your Life" Johnny Marr says the riff to handsome devil was taken from Patti Smiths "Ask The Angels".

neither can I.
"The Hand That Rocks the Cradle" is supposed to 'be' "Kimberly" by Patti Smith.
"I Won't Share You" is supposed to be Johnny ripping himself (a slowed-down "Ask").
