I kept saying during the movie how bad it was. I did laugh slightly once, when Owen Wilson, the mini cowboy who was in Ben Stiller's shirt pocket said he got to second base with Amy Adams when Stiller hugged her. That was the end of the movie. I can't believe my niece asked for that for Xmas and I got it for her. Had I seen it prior to that, I would've gotten anything else.

Bram Stoker's Dracula, I quite liked it. It was not my favourite vampire movie, but I liked it because it followed so closely to the book, and I love vampires, so wise, and sensual. I still would have to go with Nosferatu as my favourite though :)

after work, it was a day of sad movies for me, 1st:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y86/gulrober/movie%20posters/the_road_poster.jpg
it was good, I guess http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y86/gulrober/33.gif but not as good as I remember the book being :o
then about an hour ago I watched:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y86/gulrober/movie%20posters/gfm.jpg
I think it was good too, but weird, very weird, how Hal is really out there these days
its ending left me somber though...

I just watched TransAmerica last night. The plot focuses on a male-to-female transsexual who awaits for her surgery, until she finds out that she actually has a son and takes him on a cross-country road trip.

Ever since Barton Fink I've been a HUGE John Turturro fan. A few days ago on HBO I caught most of The Luzhin Defence in which he plays an eccentric chess champion. I thought it was very well done. I'm not sure if the story is true, but the movie was a nice surprise. And he's da jesus! :p

The last fillum I saw, last week it was, was "It Might Get Loud," a non-boring documentary profiling electric guitar demi-gods Jimmy Page (who turns 66 tomorrow - woo-woo!), The Edge and Jack White. Excellent stuff, highly recommended. It's not the wankfest that some feared, but in fact a thoughtful exploration on creativity. :guitar: I dug it so much, I watched it thrice. Lots of cool extras on the DVD as well, including a new acoustic composition by Lord Page.

One of my favorite LA DJ's was singing the praises of this movie, particularly the part where The Edge pulls an old forgotten demo tape of Sunday Bloody Sunday (I believe) out of a closet and listens to it for the first time while the camera was rolling, just seeing his reaction was classic apparently.
I saw this tonight. Slow going at first, I wasn't comfortable with the mix of actors and real people at first but got used to it. The artistry was sweet and the message fantastic...I think a certain someone might relate to a lot of scenes toward the end.

It's a good rule of thumb to avoid any movie that features Ms. Glitter, aka Mariah Carey. We lead a happier life as a result of following that sage advice.
But as with most rules, there are exceptions, and this movie is it. Particularly if you like indie dramas that hit you in the solar plexus (this movie definitely is not for the faint of heart), you'd probably enjoy this movie very much.

I saw the Full Monty, Capote and The Gangs of New York this past week.
The movie I saw yesterday was a brilliant little indie film (somewhat indie because I don't really like indie-labeled movies) called My Beautiful Laundrette starring Daniel Day Lewis and Gordon Warnecke as his Pakistani friend and lover. The film is really thought-provoking and manages to cover all controversial topics, such as race, class in London and sexuality in the 1980's with suprising grace. I really enjoyed it! I recommend it to admires of Daniel Day Lewis or those who would appreciate good quirk in movies.

April Wheeler: Look at us. We're just like everyone else. We've bought into the same, ridiculous delusion.
While set in 1955, the themes of this film are timeless. Two people bored with their life's and finally seeing it as it something that they have to accept. I mean, looking at it. Why are they unhappy? Is is really an illusion to make yourself comfortable. The wife, April (kate Winslet) seems deluded by what she can achieve as she is a failed actress and her resentment and bitterness causes arguments, Frank is bored by his job and tired by his wife's lack of attention. Nobody is too blame really, but it is a modern tragedy and you feel sorry for them. The film seems effortfully perfect by the way it looks and the cast. Leonardo DiCaprio is superb is Michael Shannon playing John, who acts the unconscious voice of the married couple and how they feel.

A very bittersweet road movie which has a very dry humour throughout that makes it a very amusing film. Felicity Huffman plays a pre-operative male-to-female transsexual, which works as it isn't a male actor being overtly camp or feminine. She has to deepen her voice and be some what expressive in manners in a more feminine way. She gets a call to help someone who happens to be the son she has never met (or knew she had) just before her final operation. The film does touch on some taboo subjects without being melodramatic, as the son played by Kevin Zeger comes from a very dysfunctional upbringing, not so much from his biological father but from the abuse he has suffered from his step-father. Which has lead the boy into petty crime, drugs and prositution. All in all, an interesting movie worth seeing.

Telstar: The Joe Meek Story (2008)

Tagline:
Hit after hit... someone's going to get hurt
A great movie that showed the humor and the fun times behind the production of many of Joe Meek's hit records and the tragedy of his life and the flawed magic of Meek and his inabilities in understand the business side of the industry. Con O'Neil struts around in a somewhat rampant Rik Mayall manner, as he shouts expletives at the young musicians! The chaos of recording above a shop along Holloway Road (which i must have walked pass a number of times without really knowing it's history) with the very sweet Mrs. Violet Shenton (Pam Ferris) putting up with it all.
The intriguing moments when Meek is talking to Brian Epstein on the telephone and then throwing The Beatles Demo tape in the bin and calling the the mersey beat as a flash in a pan and telling Clem Cattini (James Corden), "who the fuck are the Kinks?" as Clem finally walks away. Joe Meek being interviewed by a certain John Peel (David Hayler) and i just found out that Justin Hawkins played Lord Sutch. The film shows the lengths that Meek went to to promote Lord Sutch singles'. Meek's deluded love for Heinz (played by JJ Field) and the money spent on keeping him in the public eye and as his lover is explored as one of the possible reasons for tipping Meek over the edge. The film does picture Heinz Burt as a very slow witted person and a mediocre talent.
Interesting cameos and casting; as i sat there wondering, "was it Carl Barât as Gene Vincent" and waiting for the credits to find out and it is. It also shows the management and marketing of rockstars in the early sixties, as we see the these old military men take control, as in Major Wilfred Banks (Kevin Spacy) and the appearance of the real Jess Conrad as (Jon Lee) Billy Fury's aggressive manager (and later Jess is played by much younger Nigel Harman). Rita Tushingham is there was well! Ralf Little plays Chas Hodges, i didn't realize it was suppose to be him until the credits rolled! (and Chas Hodges is actually in the film as well, but i missed him) and the infamous moment with Mitch Mitchell (Craig Vye), with the shotgun to his head and told to "play better!"

Le Donk & Scor-zay-zee (2009)
Director:
Shane Meadows
Writer:
Shane Meadows (writer)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1437849/
http://warp.net/films/le-donk-and-scor-zay-zee
A rather disappointing film by Meadows and is a mockumentary which doesn't last very long. Paddy Considine acts like he had a missed opportunity by not appearing in some episodes of Ricky Gervais's Extras or The Office. He isn't very convincing and seems to be overdoing it as Le Donk. Le Donk is a sort of 'David Brent' of roadies and is a rather immature man, sulking around people who do has some degree of musical talent and being abusive and jealous of these people (like Scor-zay-zee). It has the Arctic Monkeys wandering around looking like a bunch of spotty school boys. It is quite funny in places as Meadows does add a lot humour to all his scripts. The oddest part of the film is the new born baby, which is (i just read) three months old and is, interestedly enough the real child of actress Olivia Colman. Who is a very familiar face on British television as she is in such shows as Peep Show, Green Wing and loads of Mitchell and Webb stuff.

Who is Hallam Foe?
An odd little tale of a teenager played by Jamie Bell, who is going through bereavement because of the death of his mother. He lives in a fairly affluent way but withdraws into his tree house to spy on his family, until he moves away to the city and it then gets all strangely psychological. As he mets someone who looks like his mother ( Sophie Myles) and their rather 'Oedipal complex' relationship. Not the most humorous of narratives, but quiet engaging because of the script and the actors involved.

When Ambition Meets Faith
quotes: Plainview: There's a whole ocean of oil under our feet! No one can get at it except for me!
Where do i begin, the performances or the story? I don't know really, i didn't know what to expect from this film. I didn't know the running time or felt daunted by it in the end, this film just flowed along at an even pace that seems quite rare nowadays. Daniel Day Lewis plays the rather hard working and insidious man Daniel Plainview, who only focus in life is owning and taking the oil from the land that he buys. He does, along the way adopt a child who he does show affection for but just uses as a pawn in his business plans. There isn't any love or a hint of romance in the life of Palinview, only owning the land and taking the oil form it. He is a plain speaking and aggressive man and this is the reason for his success and his rejection of religion. His only nemesis in his life is the preacher Eli Sunday (Paul Dano) who is just as a loathsome character as Palinview as he manipulates his town and tries to use the oil man for his money. So, the film, within it's characters; as plain speaking as they are, explore the corruption of people via business or religion because of greed and how both of these are at loggerheads but have the same goal. This film is a amazing piece of cinema because of the way it is filmed by it's director and the performances of the two leads.

My hesitation was wrong on this one, at first it was supposedly a remake of Bad Lieutenant and secondly it was Nicholas Cage. Who i haven't liked that much since Ghost Rider. He was good in this film, hobbling about and taking drugs and being corrupt to get his job done and aiding his drug habit. This film tells of his dependancy on drugs and why this is and how Terence McDonagh (Nicholas Cage) finds ways of getting more etc. He gets high on various stuff and you see it an addictive trait that runs in his family. You have a few scenes were Cage can look and giggle all manic like. He does that well, as he drives around a run down city & starts seeing things while high.
Unlike the film is it originally based on or rewritten as, (wait a minute, come to think of it, the Bad Lieutenant of that film isn't given a name) Cage is more like a naughty lieutenant then Harvey Keitels's 'Bad Lieutenant'. The imagery of the locations (New Orleans after the Katrina Hurricane), sit well with the character's own degeneration. Much like Cage does in Leaving Las Vegas, i suppose this film's performance will be compared with that film as it is Cage acting and not calling in his role or being an action man!
The other performances are alright. Eve Mendes is pretty dull and at first Val Kilmer is unrecognizable and it was interesting to see Jennifer Coolidge in a serious role. Not as shocking as it wants to be or hard hitting. It is grim but has a silver lining with no real message of redemption or really seeing Cage as an original 'anti hero'. It have an interesting premiss with it's lead character's actions and how he deals with his job and life.

Moon (2009)
Director:
Duncan Jones
Writers:
Duncan Jones (original story)
Nathan Parker (screenplay)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1182345/
tagline: The last place you'd ever expect to find yourself.
One of the few proper science fiction films made in years. While it is noticeable inspired by the 70s type of science fiction movie (like Silent Running), it does come across as somewhat dated! Sam Rockwell plays an astronaut, Sam Bell on a moon base that mines it's surface for fuel, that is used on earth. He is isolated as he is the only human that's been working on the base for three years; except he has the movable computer Gerty (voiced by Kevin Spacey) as his only companion. Who he can talk to and who makes sure he looked after, by communicating with earth. The computer Gerty has a small screen that has a number of smiley faces for expression and has a dirty coffee cup holder and taped bits of paper to his outer shell, I felt that was inspired, as it kind of looked like a neglected desk with a PC! he isn't evil or damaged like HAL in 2001 but is very caring and does what he is programed to do. After an accident, Sam wakes up and starts to hallucinate and realizes that he might not be alone and the company are not as truthful about his employment and how they are treating him.
The sets didn't look that far from set designs used in any science fiction film or television shows were it is based inside a human spaceship etc. I think the moon set and the vehicles looked like models, which i found refreshing, as it reminded me of stuff i watch as a child like the TV series Space 1999.
Hard to find a decent pace throughout the film and it relies heavily on Sam Rockwell, which isn't a bad thing. A very intriguing and intelligent film though and directed by David Bowie's son!

In this continuation to the adventure of the demon superhero, an evil elf breaks an ancient pact between humans and creatures, as he declares war against humanity. He is on a mission to release The Golden Army, a deadly group of fighting machines that can destroy the human race. As Hell on Earth is ready to erupt, Hellboy and his crew set out to defeat the evil prince before The Golden Army can destroy humanity's existence.
Not my kind of movie, but it wasn't too bad actually. Better than that Night at the Museum crap. Good special effects and characters -liked the fantasy world/CG imagery. Sorry, but Ron Perlman is one ugly mofo -red or white ;) but he is KICK ASS on Sons of Anarchy! :guitar:

I just watched Coraline last night. It's like Alice and Wonderland-meets-The Stepford Wives. It was a fun movie to watch, but a bit frightening, too.:)
I just wanted to say I got the dvd for Xmas and also a replica of the Detroit Zoo snowglobe featured in the movie. The Detroit Zoo didn't want to make them when they were approached by the movie company, so then the movie comes out and they get over 10,000 calls saying 'where can I get that snowglobe' so they then thought 'Oh, maybe we should make some,' but then they didn't get them in until after the movie had left theaters.

It's about a girl who is framed by her stalker, and she is afraid of being alone. She is obsessed with music, especially love songs. She lives in a dream world of sorts filled with fantasies. Then she is put under house arrest, all alone, with no friends. Her stalker is still longing for her, and searching, he is also obsessed with music.
I can't really say more, but the movie is really, really good, it makes you want to watch it over and over again. Also the soundtrack is bomb.

A complete load of gubbins starring Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, Jodie Foster and Christopher Plummer. I watched this film so you don't have to.
Incidentally is it racist to suggest that I think Denzel Washington is one of the most overrated actors of this or any other generation?
I do not see what all the hollabalou is about concerning him. Never understood it. He is not any better than any other well-respected black actor or any actor for that matter. And for the record it not racist. The fact that you brought it up is ridiculous.

The Wrong Man (1956)
The Wrong Man is a 1956 film by Alfred Hitchcock which stars Henry Fonda and Vera Miles. The film is based on a true story of an innocent man charged for a crime he did not commit, even though witnesses swear he is guilty.
The film examines the experience of Manny Balestrero (Fonda) who works as a musician in the Stork Club, a nightclub in New York City. Manny and Rose (Miles), his wife, have very little money. When Rose needs some dental work, Manny attempts to borrow on her insurance policy at the insurance office. Unfortunately, he bears a resemblance to an armed robber who had held up the office twice before, so the police are called. Manny is identified by several witnesses and, when providing a handwriting sample, he nervously misspells a word that was also misspelled on the robbery note. He is arrested and charged with the crime....
Not the greatest Hitchcock effort. Still it was a nice way to while away an afternoon whilst doing my ironing
Malice (1993)
Malice is a 1993 American thriller film directed by Harold Becker. The screenplay by Aaron Sorkin and Scott Frank is based on a story by Jonas McCord.
Andy (Bill Pullman) and Tracy Safian (Nicole Kidman) are a happily married couple living in a Victorian house they are restoring in the Boston suburbs. He is the Associate Dean at the local college, while his wife, who has been experiencing intense abdominal pain, teaches art to children. When a student is attacked in her home by what appears to be a serial rapist, her life is saved by Dr. Jed Hill (Alec Baldwin), a newly arrived doctor at the area hospital. Andy recognizes Jed from their high school days and invites him to rent the third floor of their home in order to finance the new plumbing. With his propensity to bring home sexual partners and party late into the night, he quickly proves himself to be a less than ideal tenant.
When student Paula Bell (Gwyneth Paltrow) is attacked and killed, Andy finds her body in the garden behind her home, prompting detective Dana Harris (Bebe Neuwirth) to view him as a possible suspect. While at the police station delivering a semen sample, Andy learns his wife has been hospitalized. Jed discovers Tracy is pregnant and notices her ovaries are torsed and appear necrotic. Over the protests of the other doctors, he opts not to wait for test results and advises Andy to agree to the removal of Tracy's ovaries. During the surgery, the fetus aborts. When Jed later is told the ovaries were healthy, he decides that, rather than bury the report, he will face the consequences of his actions.
Watched late at night (ie 4am) and couldn't get to grips with all the plot for that reason. OK

I've just watched a devastating documentary called Dear Zachary: A letter to a son about his father It tells the story of Andrew Bagby, a young doctor who was murdered by his ex girlfriend after he ended their relationship. What then follows is an unforgettable story that is expertly made by an old friend of Andrew's called Kurt Kuenne. I defy anyone who watches this to be unaffected by the time the credits roll, it is an emotionally shattering experience. It's a brilliant testament to the power of love and friendship that you will never forget. Absolutely unmissable.
I just downloaded this from Netflix and I have to say that it is every bit as devastating (and redemptive) as mozmal said.
It's harrowing and beautiful and must be seen.

Un Prophete (A Prophet dir: Jacques Audiard 2009)
Audiard is the savior of French film noir, his fifth film is about a 19 year old Arabic man Malik's survival in a prison.
Audiard regular Niles Arestrup is excellent as usual, new commer Tahar Rahim who plays the protagonist shows natural talent.
It is deserved to be nominated 2010 Academy Award's best foreign language film (however, the winner will be Michael Haneke's White Ribbon).
I recommend Audiard's previous films (See How They Fall, Self Made Hero, Read My Lips and The Beat That My Heart Skipped) if you haven't watched them yet.
They are all well above the average crime flix and you'll be amazed the consistency of his work.

I've just seen Invictus, the story of how the South African rugby team won the world cup in 1995, inspired by the recently released president, Nelson Mandela. Directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon, it's well made, but some of the rugby sequences were a bit lacking. I'm surprised it's up for acting oscars, the performances are good throughout, but not that good.
I also saw the dreadful Valentine's Day, which stars so many names, too many names. It's an unbelievably syruppy mess where everyone smiles constantly throughout the 2 hour endurance. I couldn't wait for it to end. Awful.

http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images/pic/pe/282490~Constantine-Posters.jpg
I must admit I was initially drawn in by the Keanu Reeves factor :blushing: but it is a really brilliant movie. I love all that religious crap, so it was perfect for me. OK, so the demons were a bit cheesy, but otherwise it was a wonderful film. I highly reccommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet. :)

HORRIBLE! A bunch of people in period dress acting overly rambunctious while a dreary guy narrates over their tittering, arguing, and prancing about.
Oh. Dreadful. So why did you watch it?:)I recommend "9-ya Rota"(9th Company").Btw .you will see how nice is in Afghanistan, and that American war in Afghanistan will end the same like the Russian war there did:))

So why did you watch it?:)
I had to watch some of it to know I disliked it. I didn't watch the entire thing, actually, though my husband did, so I am aware that it continued in the same vein until its conclusion.
I've been asked this question several times on Solo about various things I've watched and not liked. Doesn't everyone have to watch at least part of something to know they don't like it? Am I somehow confused about this?

I performed as Columbia once, also Brad (on a switch night)... I wish to perform as Frank N. Furter, which I should be in March. Oh, I also perform as Trixie who is basically a stripper in the beginning in front of the lips.

You'd think that would be easier to come by, but it's not. If you go to a store like WetSeal or a store for people that go guido-clubbing often I can guarantee you'll find a sequin shirt easy. I searched for pajamas that looked like Columbia's for 3 hours at like 15 different stores. Hahah.

Yeah, I always feel a bit like that when watching his live footage because it makes me even more impatient/yearning to see him live.
One bit I don't get about the beginning- the random words being read out with the footage of fields etc. Me and my friend were trying to figure out the meaning or connections but we couldn't think of any coherent ideas. Hmmm.
I've also watched 4 Carry On films in the past 24 hours- Sergeant, Teacher, Nurse and Constable.

I finally saw 500 Days of Summer last night.
Great film. My one quibble is that the ending is far too pat and trite. I wonder if it was re-written, a la the ending of Singles?
I'd have preferred if he found his fulfillment in his work, rather than another woman.
Kinda OT, but very Morrissey related: the actor (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) looks exactly like my husband's friend who we recently went to a concert with (Dinosaur Jr.- their choice - my ears are still bleeding ). These two could be brothers. As we were standing outside in the cold waiting to get in I told this friend about how we saw three Moz concerts in one week last year, and he revealed that he had been at my very first Moz concert back in 1992 at the The Palace of Auburn Hills! He went with his brother who was/is a massive fan and who kept drunkenly shouting "Suedehead" and then cried with happiness when it was played. He asked "did you hear him?" but I didn't. We determined we were on opposite sides of the stage.
And then we talked about Years of Refusal, which he had recently bought, and he said that he loved it and was surprised by how "rockin'" the album sounded. And then he told me how much he loves Boz (this friend also plays guitar in a band, and used to own a used record shop. Sorry girls, he's married to a beautiful photographer).
I can't believe he and I had never discussed Morrissey before. I mean geez, he stood up at our wedding! I've known him for over a decade now.
Anyway, great film! :thumb:

I guess that's true - about him finding fulfillment in the architecture thing, after all. I was in an anti-love mood last night, so maybe that clouded my perception of the ending. I was thinkin' "Dude, you're ok by yourself! You don't need her. Enjoy your freedom! There's more to life!":p I guess I'm an old curmudgeon who prefers unrequited love, bleeding hearts and misery.
My favorite scene was where he sketched on Summer's arm.
There were so many beautiful little scenes like that.

In the last few years I have studied quite a lot about quantummechanics. I think this book really makes a good try into translating quantummechanics into literature. Besides that I like to read that the contrast of the apollonian vs the dionysian is being exlored in the book, but I might be too influenced by his other book 'the possibility of an island', which I read first. Maybe the translation ruins the book, I read it in Dutch, the translation was pretty good. Anyway the last movie I saw now is:

Sugar. It's about a pitcher (Miguel Santos) from the Dominican Republic drafted into the farm team/Minor Leagues and how he copes with the transistion of being seperated from all that makes him feel at home and comfortable while being expected to perform at maximum capacity. Very well done. An exploration into the psyche of someone adjusting to a different life more than a study of baseball, so don't be put off if you're not a huge baseball fan.

Shutter Island - Leo DiCaprio plays a federal agent sent to a mental institute to investigate the disappearance of one of the patients. A really good cast, directed by Scorsese along with a creepy setting - what could go wrong? Well, it was way too long for one, and the outcome was just too predictable, it kept going round in circles. Some nice touches and a good score, but only an average film. Disappointing.

I Love You, Phillip Morris - Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor star in the true story of a professional conman who meets the love of his life in prison. I wasn't sure about this when I saw the trailer, but it turned out to be really funny in places and an amazing story. Lots of gay content. Definitely worth a look.

I watched the horror movie "Inside" the other day. It was SO gory that I had problems with it, but I hear a lot of people love that. (I like spooky movies more than gory movies.) Also, there are a few parts in it that just would/could never happen, so I had to overlook those things a little more than I would have liked. Still, as horror movies go it was pretty good and I recommend it to anyone who likes gore and twists.

Watched The Hunger (dir Tony Scott) 'modern vampire flick with a twist' for the zillionth time last night. It's such a cool film. David Bowie, Pete Murphy, Catherine Deneuve, Susan Sarandon.... all excellent performances. It's very stylistically shot and 'of the era' - it's soo 80's, i love it. Lots of shadow effects and clever use of lights. As for the modern vampire twist - it still holds the romance of 'for ever and ever', but dissolves the need for necking. The Progeria parallels with John's (Bowie) rapid degeneration and aging are class! I've seen it shed loads of times, but still return now and again for a reminder.
Sounds from Bauhaus (Bela Lugosi), Murphy/Pop (fun time), Schubert (Trio in E flat, Op.100 Andante Con Motto) - all great tunes.

Despite knowing close to bugger-all about Watergate and the like, I really enjoyed it. Fantastic performances and interpretations from the two leads (Langhella and Sheen), and the long process of obtaining the interviews themselves was well-documented and built up instead of being rushed over. I also really liked the build-up of tension between the characters as the film went on: from fairly jocular ease to near antagonism. Highly reccommended! :)

Directed by Tom Ford (yes, that Tom Ford), starring Colin Firth, Julianne Moore and Nicholas Hoult.

"Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence/Furyo" was the last DVD i watched...
It has the best original musical score of any film i've ever seen (apart from 'Once upon a time in the west' obviously)... and the lovely Ryûichi Sakamoto not only provides the soundtrack, he also stars in the movie!:thumb:
The entire film is about a clash of cultures, personal regrets, discipline, honour and glory. It is set in a WW2 Japanese prisoner of war camp. Tom Conti plays the eponymous Mr Lawrence - an interpretor who understands the Japanese culture and is thus considered a bit of an outsider within his own British prisoner group. Newcomer Celliers stirrs up emotions on all sides of the fence.
The relationship between Celliers (David Bowie: the main character) and Yanoi (Sakamoto: the camp commander) is gripping, and the strange friendship that develops between Lawrence and Sgt. Hara (Beat Takeshi Kitano) is also compelling viewing.
There are several phenomenally good scenes, for example:
a homosexual guard commits seppuku - and his lover (who is forced to watch) bites and swallows his own tongue.:tears:
Bowie breaks rank, steadfastly walks up to Sakamoto, and resolutely kisses him on the cheek with a straight face and Sakamoto crumbles as he can't deal with his feelings.
Oh I love this film. I can't watch it without crying my eyes out... it's perfect:)
I'd recommend it to EVERYBODY - but not if you're feeling miserable cause it'll take you way down!.:thumb:
PM me if you want me to send you the DVD (i've got 2 copies)!:thumb:

Exquisitely filmed and very good performances from all, esp. Abbie Cornish. It was beautiful really, and great at portraying the pathos and intensity of young love.
Keeping to the theme of literary legends who died too young, the last film I saw was "Sylvia" about the relationship of Sylvia Plath and her mostly evil husband Ted Hughes. I don't like Gwyneth Paltrow generally speaking but she was perfect as Plath: looked and sometimes sounded uncannily like her. Daniel Craig was very good as Hughes. It's not a feel good movie by any means, but worthwhile seeing.

I've just introduced my 16 year old daughter to Trainspotting. It should need no introduction, but for those that have somehow not seen it, here goes. Made in 1996, it's based on the cult novel by Irvine Welsh, about a group of heroin addicts in Edinburgh. Starring Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle, Ewen Bremner, Kevin McKidd and Kelly Macdonald, it's a brilliant piece of filmmaking that pulls no punches throughout its 89 minutes. The acting, direction and screenplay are simply flawless. You must see this film.

I liked it. It obviously had a very forced "period piece" feel about it, but it was well done. I was transported for a few hours.
Thanks.
Much obliged, I'll give it a whirl.

Saw Iron Man 2 last night, really enjoyed it, the whole cast was good and RDJ was awesome as usual :D.
I only got mad during the credits when I noticed that they'd given Brian Johnson credit for Highway to Hell, when it was Bon Scott who wrote that song with Angus and Malcolm.
But that nerdy quibble aside I thoroughly enjoyed the movie :thumb:.

They didn't JUST play Shoot To Thrill and Highway To Hell in the movie, did they? Then, what's the fuckin' point for them to release a whole soundtrack album?! Doesn't make any sense!

Yep from what I remember those were the only 2 AC/DC tracks in the film, they kind of bookended the whole thing (Shoot to Thrill at the beginning, Highway to Hell at the end). Seems a bit weird since the soundtrack is all AC/DC, and then they couldn't even get the Highway to Hell writing credits right in the film .

A Single Man (dir. Tom Ford 2009)
I finally watched it yesterday, really impressive debut.
Colin Firth is perfectly portraying a lonely college professer who lost his love of life by a car accident.
Look forward to watch Ford's next film if he decides to continue film making.

I've just seen The Ghost. It stars Ewan McGregor, who is handed the task of being the ghost writer for a former prime minister (Brosnan) who is accused of war crimes. Intrigue and tension follows throughout this film as the ghost suddenly realises that all is not what it seems. It's really well directed by Roman Polanski and has good performances from all the main cast. Well worth a look.
