"The Songs That Made You Smile" Parties
The Brickhouse Nightclub in Manchester, home of Manchester’s longest-running indie night and purveyor of some absolutely splendid Morrissey/Smiths bashes in the past few years will be holding two special events to coincide with the Morrissey G-Mex dates on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd of December.
Music will be predominantly Morrissey and Smiths all night with some other appropriate guitar-driven belters chucked into the mix. Everyone is invited to make requests on the night, so the music will really be decided by those in attendance, and it may well end up being nothing but Moz ’n’ Smiths all night like the last few events!
You only have to check some of the feedback left on Morrissey-Solo by doing a search under “Brickhouse” to see how well these parties have gone in the past. The nights begin at 10:30 and go on till late (the club has a late license), and we’re only charging £6 in advance for either date. You can book tickets from Ticketweb by going to www.ticketweb.co.uk or calling 08700 600 100.

Oh right. Just wondered if there will be all the usual 'attractions' we've come to expect at The Brickhouse's Moz after-shows, such as:
a, rude and intimidating 'security'
b, 'regulars' sneering contemptuously at people and generally creating an atmosphere of hostility
c, the music, although advertised before previous Moz after-shows, as exclusively The Smiths/Morrissey, turned out on the night to be 30/40% The Smiths/Morrissey, with the remainder of the set being random generic "indie" shite played at the whim of the rather clueless 'D.J.'
d, will the obnoxious Liam Gallagher 'lookalike/act-alike' be in attendance, being a twat and generally making people feel uncomfortable?
e, at least you've dropped the price from the £10 you extortionately charged, on top of over-priced drinks, that you charged after the Manchester dates in May.
Good luck.

Which event were you at which made you so bitter? So many people have enjoyed our events that it's a real shame to find someone so pi**ed off.
Just a few quick points:
(a)The Brickhouse security are about the friendliest you'll find. What did they do to rile you so? No-one else has complained in years (b) You're sounding like you've got a serious persecution complex- again, the Brickhouse has a great reputation for it's friendly atmosphere - how did you know these evil people were "regulars" by the way? (c) Which date are you referring to? You see, nearly all our parties featured at least 60-70% Smith/Moz (a few were 100% Moz and Smiths), and anything else was requested by the people who were having a good time and dancing. Is anything else but Moz/Smiths just "random generic indie shite" to you? How sad and blinkered! Oh, and the DJ's at the Brickhouse are really approachable and do their best to play everything that people request (within reason!). (d) If anyone is rude or aggressive to you in our club, just tell security as we won't tolerate genuinely hostile behaviour- oh, I forgot, the security are nasty, horrid people too (d) Drinks start at £1.10 for brand-name bottled beers, how skint are you if that's "over-priced"?
As I said before, please refer to other postings on Morrissey-solo.com to see that many people had a great time at our previous parties even if "The King" sadly didn't!
Random quotes from Morrissey-solo:
"Yeah. Apollo night was my highlight. And I really, really enjoyed The Brickhouse after. In fact, I think that was the best night of my 21 years on this unhappy planet. With the Halifax gig a close second."
"What an amazing day: ...going to the afterparty at The Brickhouse afterwards...getting off with Morrissey's doppelganger...ahaha it was the BEST. NIGHT. EVER."
Re:Who else went to The Brickhouse after?
"Maybe you saw me and my mate! We took ages shambling across town to get there, though. I had a Smiths t-shirt and (inexplicably) a flatcap on. And I kissed that Moz lookalike (who, in my drunken state, I honestly believed to be the man himself!)
Yeah it was BRILLIANT, wasn't it? Best night of my little life! :D "
Re:Who else went to The Brickhouse after?
"We were the first few in, completely wankered but we had a fantastic night. Great music."
You can please some of the people some if the time etc etc etc...

Yeah, I'd expect you to put that kind of spin on it.
Anyone who wants the truth, just refer to my original post.
oh and btw, the "Moz doppleganger" looked more like Huey Lewis out of Huey Lewis and the News.

No problem, the address is The Brickhouse, Arch 66, Whitworth Street West, Manchester M1 1WQ. There's also a MySpace page at www.myspace.com/brickhouse66 with some photos of the club....
All the best...

Dear "The King" - let's just agree to differ now, shall we? I can read your scathing comments about the Brickhouse and put on a brave face (though deep down, it hurts. God knows, it hurts...) but I'm sure your Huey Lewis look-a-like comments will have the poor gentleman in question either weeping or frothing at the mouth if he should read this...

We went to the Brickhouse after the Appollo and it was a great night. All beer ran out about 2 I think though. The mix of Moz Smiths and Manc classics was a cool way to end the evening. Locals, if they were, seemed fine and doorfolk no hassle. Only thing to mention is it can get quite crowded.
After MEN went to an after party, I think in a student union place, small club upstairs (my geography and memory are both shot) in central manchester. This was a really good venue, good music and cheap drinks. Anyone know if this is happening again?

See! Just one of the many who did enjoy it at the Brickhouse! Glad you had a good time, and we will get extra large orders of beer in for the next ones!:) (and "The King", I swear on my life that "the unlikely one" is not a friend/relative/on the Brickhouse payroll!):)

Manchester's longest running indie night? Not sure about that... how long you been going?
May pop down after the Saturday gig, but as for the Friday, The Star & Garter is the only lace to be.

I thought 'Smile' at the S&G was 'the longest running indie night' ® in Manchester?
Anyway I'm with you about the Star and Garter, it's just a shame they're not hosting a Moz night on saturday too.
The Brickhouse was genuinely one of the worst nights I've ever had, and my friends all agreed it was a terrible place, for all the reasons I gave above.
We had tickets for the next night, which we'd bought beforehand, online for £10 each (although they were letting supposed "members" in for £6 on the night), which we all ceremoniously tore up having decided we'd rather stick pins in our eyes than repeat the same mistake.
Hopefully they will take note of my complaints and rectify some of their shortcomings before the GMex dates (lowering the extortionate price of admission was a start, although it's still twice as much as the S&G).
It's a pity "whalleyrange" has decided to take all this so personally, anyone would think he's worried about his profit margins....

Personally, Clint Boon's Disco Rescue at South takes some beating on a Saturday night in Manchester.
However, that might have something to do with the fact that I am fast approaching middle age and relish seeing nubile 19 year old female students gyrating to "Sheila Take A Bow" despite the fact that they weren't even born when said single was released!
You dirty old man!!

I'm sorry to disappoint you but I'm not taking this personally at all (heard of irony/sarcasm?)! Anyone reading these posts would see how i tried to make light of the whole silly, tedious little bickering match whereas you really do have a bee in your bonnet about your terrible ordeal at the Brickhouse (you missed a great night on the Sunday by the way). )Oh, and we're not charging any more than we do any other Saturday in the year, and we do have a huge number of members who, yes, do deserve a discount for being loyal and regular brickhouse people. Shock! Horror!
I'm bowing out from the bitchiness as I've got a life to lead, adieu!
PS The Saturday night at the Brickhouse has been running for fifteen years which I think is a pretty decent run. If Smile has been going longer, then good luck to them! I think Smile is a great night, and love the Smiths/Morrissey disco too- we can all co-exist quite happily in this city without resorting to snide little digs. Think on, lad :D

I don't know what your problem is "lad", but if you're taking such exception to me giving an honest account of the disappointing evening myself and my friends spent in your establishment, I can only suggest that your spurious claim to have "a life" sounds somewhat overstated.
I wasn't even speaking to you on that occasion, I was discussing the matter with 'the goat', partly because I'd already finished with you, but mostly because you're full of shit.
I've said what I think of your club, if you don't like it then don't look at any more of my posts on this thread.
Oh and by the way, I heard that you had to close before 12 on the sunday due to lack of paying customers, members or otherwise.

15 years is indeed a good run. Well done.
But I was going to nights at 42nd St and 5th Avenue before that - and what about Monday night at The Ritz (Dance Yer Docs Off)?

Dear "The King" (what a wonderful name you'ver chosen for yourself! King of what, exactly? Bullsh**?), You heard wrong about the Sunday, but then you are misinformed on mosy things, you cretinous buffoon.
You're entitled to your opinions, but that doesn't stop you being a sad little bitchy clown.
Using this site to say you didn't enjoy a night is just fine, but don't use it as a platform for your pathetic attempts at personal abuse.
Sod off.

I preferred the night at the Star and Garter (though the Brickhouse did play the Fall.)
I didn't think there was enough Smiths/ Moz stuff really. Not being funny but if you're advertising it as a post-party then surely there should have been more of a concentration of Smiths/ Moz stuff? (I went on the Saturday by the way)
Indeed I have only been to 4 "themed" nights in my sad, little wretched life and the Brickhouse was the most diappointing (the Quarry one after the last night at the Palladium being the best!!!) but this may have been due to the nature of the Apollo gig too!!
Will there be a S n G night on the Saturday as well? Can you start a petition or something??
P.S. I completely empathise with Evil Legal Eagle. I was in a indie club in Cardiff t'other night. Ask came on and all these pretty young things (19, as Paul Hardcastle stipulated, would be pushing it!) started gyrating and singing and ooh yeh. And calling me, taunting me.... hence it was another night in the cells. I really have to stop it.

Fact: The sunday night after-show at The Brickhouse on May 6 2006 was a dismal failure (rather like yourself) and closed before 12 o'clock because there was hardly anyone there.
Fact: Your shameless attempt to lure innocent Morrissey fans to your shabby excuse for a "Moz Party", under the blatantly false pretences you have advertised on this site, has been exposed, resulting in you throwing your toys out of the pram like a petulant schoolgirl. You then compounded this by typing a tissue of lies in order to extricate yourself from the tangled web of deceit you had woven previously. You are a disgrace.
The next time you come here trying to exploit and manipulate Morrissey fans, please stick to the truth or I will be forced to correct you yet again.
Prick.

I am disgusted at the behaviour of junior member “The King”- I know this site can unfortunately be a bitchy little place at times but it should not be a forum for certain pathetic individual “little Hitlers” to act like the big man because they obviously feel that everyone’s out to get them in the big, bad “real world” away from their computer screen and internet porn. The fact that he give’s himself the deluded nom de plume of “The King” speaks a lot about the little bubble of self-importance this tool has built around him to compensate for his obvious lack of any social skills or decency of character in his day to day life. Whatever your opinion of our night, you’re so obviously full of irrational hatred and contempt for me and the Brickhouse that your every posting is just a self-congratulatory slap on the back about how you “showed me”. How have you “showed me” exactly? By getting progressively more offensive, insulting and self-deluded with every new posting? You “showed me” what an absolute cock you are, that’s all. So, you didn’t like our party, plenty of people did. Why not get off your arse and do something yourself if you’re so unhappy with other people’s attempts? The snidey, insult-filled personal attacks that you’ve launched in your posts make you a real voice to take notice of don’t they? This site and this world would be better off without the likes of you. You’re pathetic.

Actually, I take everything back. I've fallen for your headstrong personality and forthrightness of opinion and want to have your babies.
I've forgiven and forgotten the hurtful things you've said (at least you never said that I looked like Huey Lewis- that would be much more hurtful than being called "prick" or "fuckwit") and feel terrible and guilty about how I lashed out myself in retaliation. You're perfectly entitled to your opinion- some may agree, but I also know many others disagree - that's life's rich tapestry, eh? Please forgive me...

I went to The Brickhouse after the Apollo gig in May and had a fucking EXCELLENT night.
I was just going to go to the S&G disco with everyone else, but now I know The Brickhouse are doing the same thing again, I think I'll go there.
Highly recommended: great music, really great people. Okay the alcohol isn't cheap but do as I did and find yourself a willing male to ply you with cans of Red Stripe all night ;)

What the fuck? Did you end up at the wrong place or something?
a) I never saw any 'rude and intimidating' security. In fact, I lost my purse at that event and the bouncers were nothing but lovely.
b) I didn't see anybody 'sneering'. You sound like you have an awful victim complex. The atmosphere was great: everyone dancing and singing and talking together. I have no idea who was a regular and who wasn't.
c) A good proportion of the music was Morrissey/Smiths. Nobody expects it to be ALL Moz/Smiths. And the non Moz/Smiths stuff was still great and appropriate: James, Joy Division, etc.
d) I love that Liam Gallagher lookalike! He's funny and cheeky and he was very nice to my friend and I. You obviously rubbed him up the wrong way. I hope he's there next time I go :D
e) Yeah, okay, the alcohol was too expensive. But I was having a good enough time not to mind that much. And if you're not a social pariah, you can always charm people into buying your drinks for you, you know...
No, I don't work for The Brickhouse. No, my dad isn't the owner. But honestly: when someone's moaning on about what was actually a really fun night...

I heard nothing but positive things about this post gig show last time and was disappointed that I couldnt make it along. I had tickets but after the gig my mate was so pissed that I had to take him home! (you would think he would know better at his age!!)
I shall almost certainly be attending this time round, because I am not going with him again!

I attended the Brickhouse after the Apollo gig and it was a really fun night.
And to me it didn't matter if you played the occasionally madchester tune between the Moz/Smiths singalongs.
Though someone wanted to smack me cause he thought I was gay, quite ironic since it was a Moznight.
But that seemed to happen everytime I put my foot down outside the hotel.
Good dresser doesn't mean gay you little mancunians!
