Get Smart sounds like a good 'compromise' between an older sis and younger bro. ;) Enjoy.

What did oye have last night, stormy weather? I can't quite recall.
I like dreary days too sometimes. On sunny days, you feel like you have to go outside and do something. :p I'm not a big fan of thunder and lightning, tho - scary to me, just like basements and the dark. :o

I'm thinking about mice...
Are they:
1) a pest
2) an animal

Since the last couple of weeks I hear mice under my kitchenfloor.
I'm all against killing animals, but could mice in/under my house be classified as a pest??
I don't know what to do really... One morning I found they had been knibbling on some crackers in a still closed packet, and I immediately cleared out that kitchen drawer and put everything in Tupperware boxes.
Apparantly there has been some work done on a nearby dike (o, how Dutch!) and ever since then the whole neighbourhood has had trouble with mice. Some people even contacted city council but they say it's not their problem. Yeah right, they were the ones that repaired that dike!

I am extremely terrified of mice so I really don't want to use traps that trap them alive but I also don't want to kill them.

Aaaargh... what should I do??

Get a cat. Or if you want something more low-maintenance, you may want to look into those devices that emit super high-pitched frequencies (beyond the range of human hearing) that will drive them away. We used those in all the buildings at the camp where I used to work, and they seemed to do a good job, but you may not be able to use them if you or your neighbors have pets.

A cat!!! Why didn't I think of that!!
Of course that's what I need: a Tom to get rid of my Jerry!

I just texted a friend who has 2 cats and he said one of them is a real "hunter". She comes home with mice and little birds 2-3 times a week. I think I'll borrow her!
I am allergic to cats but I don't mind taking anti-histamines for a couple of days in order to get rid of those mice.
That high-pitched sound thingy sounds good as well (no pun intended :p)

My cats have been around my pet rodents and birds since they were babies so they're totally soft hearted... and scared of birds, due to the rooster, even though the rooster just wanted to cuddle them. My advice to avoid startling incidents: get a large version of the victim. Heh.

The last and only "startling incident" I've had with my current kitties is the time one of them kissed a mouse to almost-death.
I kept the mouse, of course. I am pathetic.

lulu is soft, totally, she has always been around rodents etc since she was small, she has never, ever caught anything ever. How she managed to catch a starling I don't know...must have been young or asleep.

My tom cat catches roaches and brings them to me alive! I've lost YEARS of my life simply from the shock that causes.
The roaches here are huge and fly, damnit! Why does he always bring them to me?

I have to mentally prepare myself whenever it rains cos that's when a couple roaches decide to come for "protection." Aghhhhhh.

You can get a cat pheromone spray called Feliway. It's intended to give cats a sense of well-being in times of stress, such as settling into a new home/helping incumbent cats to accept new cats into the household. Perhaps it would have the opposite effect on mousies and persuade them to move elsewhere?

bikubesong, I had the strangest dream last night.
I dreamt that you showed up on my doorstep with a little girl and a puppy and asked if you could go to an amusement park with me and my parents.

Hello Kewplet. We're having a quiet, post-breakfast guitar-and-chat session and a cup of tea. I'm trying to persuade Stig that his band should cover "Pregnant for the Last Time", "Sweet and Tender Hooligan", Jarvis Cocker's "Fat Children" and Sons and Daughters' "Dance Me In". Unfortunately, the rest of the band are of the "We Will Rock You" persuasion.

V's boyfriend is here. He's being allowed to fondle the guitars. :D

Good morning Kate and Kewpie.

Just managed to do some cleaning (this is a massive achievement for me today!) and I've managed to hoover without a repeat of last week's 'bird incident'. Good progress, I feel! Just had a bath and getting breakfast (fried egg sandwich: 1 egg frid in no oil, 2 small pieces of bread, no butter)

Never seen that film. I read most of it, about 10 years ago, and I really didn't enjoy it at all, so I decided the film most probably wouldn't be for me either.

I had to read it, cause my dad has a whole list of things I have to read (which reminds me that I still have yet to read the classics.)
and I liked it a lot. been a while tho.

which one? the one with the other gang? that just reminded me of Interview with a Vampire, with the troupe of vampire actors.
maybe I'm just disillusioned, cause all it did was make me angry and fearful that that is the future of this world, not particularly disturbed or creeped/grossed out.

in any event, I love dystopian books, like that and Fahrenheit 451. Makes me all the more determined not to screw my own kids up, and teach them not to screw the world up.

then yea that is probably the one. i have never said i do not like the taste of meat,i just dont eat it,but its not that i find meat disgusting i just prefer not to eat something that was alive, and i find many vegetarian substitutes for me for more enjoyable anyways, even if i ate meat i would probably eat it.

Would you like to live to be 90? My great-uncle who lived to be well over 90 complained that there was no one to talk to. He said that the young ones (and by this he ment everyone under the age of 85 ;)) didn't really understand him and his experiences. I kinda see his point. :(

I totally know what he means, cause this is what my great-grandma says all the time. That she's bored of living and she just doesn't want to live anymore. And I hate when people say, oh grandma, don't be silly! It's not silly, it's totally justified. She feels that she lived too much.

HELL NO! I see my father at 83, incontinent, falling, can't walk without a walker. I want to die when I am 50. Four more years. It's tough being me. It's tough going out into the world and dealing with shitty people. Hunter S. Thompson took his life when he was 67. He shot himself in the head. I'm amazed that he lived at ALL with all of the drugs he took and the drinking. But he kicked ass. He decided to end it because he couldn't go swimming, he couldn't walk, he was grumpy all the time, and he said it was time for him to go. Then Johnny Depp helped finance a huge rocket (bigger than the Statue Of Liberty) at Owl Farm, in Aspen. They designed the fist logo and put his ashes in ther and lit it up and exploded his ashes all over his beloved place, Owl Farm. I do not think suicide is *selfish*. I think when you know it's time to go, it's time to go. Four more years of doing what I want. Traveling, seeing Moz every time I get. I am giving my CD's and books to my best friend. This is NOT melodramatic. I have SEEN what old age does. My mother can't come home because she threw hot milk at a nurse, hit and scratched another one. She bothers the other patients at night too. My father has to go because of his diabetes and other things. I am ready for death. I think it was a good idea that I came back to the old house because NOW I can see how horrible old age is.:confused::(

and mustard is awesome and so is vegan mayo.

First things first. Mustard is gross and so is mayo (you can make vegan mayo? WHat's in it? Anyway I feel like a real shithead finding out that you have cancer. Cancer is the BIG ONE. In 1979 my best friend I went to a continuation school with (high school for bad stoner kids) EVERYBODY smoked there- even the teachers after class. It's amazing I grauated from university but I was determined to get that B.A. in English. Before I ever heard about Morrissey, I wanted to be a librarian. I come from the old school where they had card catalogs and microfiche and the head librarian was an ex marine and you didn't fuck with him. All sorts of pervs go to libraries; mostly to lie down in the aisle and look up women's skirts. ANYWAY they don't call it Library Science anymore; they call it Information Science and you need a Masters degree. In 1984 after I graduated with my shitty English degree and we all have computers so no more head librarians. Anyway, I degress. I feel like crap now because you have something to REALLY worry about and I have something (bipolar, epilepsy) that can be controlled by medication. I remember my friend Amy telling me the news (she started with colon cancer and then it progressed to liver, and the pancreatic cancer.) It took her one year to die. I never found out about it until three weeks after she passed, and I remember I called her from her work, and the receptionist recognized my voice, and said, "Colleen? Amy died three weeks agio, didn't you know?" I felt like I'd been punched in the stomach. I cried and cried. She was one of the bravest people I have ever known. Not because of her cancer, but just because she WENT for things. Some of the things I thought were stupid because during that time she was dating this asshole named Jimmy and he threw her out of a moving car and she was wearing a porta cath. I called him and told him that if he EVER hurt her or hit her again, I would track him down and kill him. I would have, too. I have a very bad temper. But then she would get mad at me and say, "Don't talk smack about Jimmy, I love him!" . I went to her apartment one day and we had he BEST time. We were watching Speed Racer and it was night time, and when I fist met her, her dad was actually growing weed in his back yard. She would dry it and we smoked bowl after bowl. Anyway, she gave me that look, and I said, "Ok, what should we eat?" and she said, "Ice Cream! Ben & Jerry's!" I drove, wasn't too smart and we went there and giggled the whole way. We went in and chose our ice cream flavors and giggled more because we couldn't count our change. Then we went back and it was so fun. But then we had anoher argument about Jimmy and she wouldn't talk to me, and that was thar. I never got to square things away with her. I wasn't even at her deathbed. Jimmy was and some lawyer becuase he wanted her money. Bastard. Later on I went to her house and it smelled the same, of her basset hound, Piggy. I don't like dogs, but Piggy sure liked me. I asked her mom if she had any of the letters I wrote to her or pictures and she said no but there were some books. I chose a book that had a Buddhist theme and this chapter about the colon. She had stuck a big feather on that page. Anyway, I don't want to bum you out, Terence, I know dying at 50 is absurd but I have been very depressed and have thought of suicide. I'm seeing my shrink on the 17th. I take a bunch of meds and the Lexapro (antidepressant) is not working. I've been on them all, and nothing seems to work. The summer of 2006 I was getting high a lot and that made me calmer and more in tune with everythig around me. I used to get paranoid when I smoked green, but now I get sleepy and think about things. (and of course get the munchies) :DOne thing I am glad about is the fact I am living with my father and someitmes it's a mess (Depends time) and sometimes he gets angry and orders me around, but this might be the only time with him. I haven't seen my mom in over a month. I miss her too. It's a big mess because my fucking non sister callled Adult Protective Services and this bitch of a woman took away my dad's checkbook, and credit cards. She sends us *vouchers* (like food stamps) but everything is so expensive. but we get by. LOL I laugh when I think of our generation all inked up and elderly. It is kind of funny when you think about it. I have 14 tats and the last one I want to get is Morrissey's signature. If I don't get lucky enough for that, I'll use the Moz font. But I don't know where I would put it! You are awesome Terence. Truly awesome. I will try to get out there and DO something. Oh the reason mustard and mayo make me sick is because when I was about 12 I'd go over to my friends houses and the mother would slap together bologna which is gross in itself, and get the cheapest white bread possible and slap some mayo or mustard on it. To this day I actually gag when I smell either one.

If you don't eat meat, why pretend to eat it then?

Yes, it's a strange thing when people act like eating meat is the most evil, disgusting thing, yet you open their freezer and they have all these products that attempt to simulate eating meat. If being meat-free and vegetarian is so important, I'd think you'd wanna celebrate the meat-free, vegetarian foods by consuming them in ways and dishes that don't try and trick people into thinking they're eating meat. I don't consider people who eat a lot of these products to be true vegetarians, as they are actually confessing they miss meat and will likely relapse back into eating meat down the line.

And let's not kid ourselves. Someone in this thread is claiming he fools a meat eater with fake burgers. Another claims the fake hot dogs are delicious. I don't know what brands they're talking about. The fake hot dogs, especially, are garbage not worth bothering with. I'd rather just eat the bun with the condiments piled on and throw the fake dog in the disposal. Some of the fake burgers and veggie burgers and whatnot are sorta okay in their own right, but in no way other than their shape are they like a real burger. Well, I guess you could say a Boca burger is not that far off from some of the FAST FOOD burgers (I'm going on distant memory here, as I don't eat fast food burgers), but fast food burgers ain't real burgers either (nor are fast food "Chicken McNuggets" real chicken, etc etc). It could just be that the vegetarians around here have either never experienced a great, real hamburger, or it's been so long they've forgotten.

So they should remind themselves. Go sink your teeth into real chicken, real hot dogs, real burgers, a steak, some dover sole, etc. I'm talking about burgers, dogs, chicken, steak, etc, that are made right, not the half-assed crap. When you do so you will stop telling people a fake this or that is just as good. Then you should switch gears and turn people who eat a lot of meat onto the pleasures of sincere vegetarian foods.

But it is true that technologies are leading to some amazing things. I have read that one day real meat will be raised without the rest of the animal. Thus, it may one day be possible to eat real meat without killing an animal. If meat can no longer be called "murder," will vegetarians still try and pretend it tastes bad? They'll still be able to point out the health benefits of vegetarian foods, which has always been the better point because if meat eaters believed meat tasted "bad" they'd have abandoned it long ago. Only people who buy fake hot dogs to please PETA are weird enough to eat things that taste bad and smile about it.

If you want a hotdog and can have it without deading something up, why the hell not?
I reserve the right to piss off my brother btw.

I don't do fake dead thing very often, around this time of the year all the memories of hotdogs and hamburgers hit me and I can have it without having it. The type of fakedog I use are made locally by friends of friends. If I hadn't seen them make it I'd think it was the real thing and be totally disturbed, it's brilliant.

there is no shame in it,no one one ups the other, one persons worries may seem worse than someone eles but i feel if its important to you then thats all that matters,if a friend of mine comes to me with a problem and its really affecting them then its just as bad to me as something else that would be considered worse by others, they are your feelings and that makes them valid to me,i was just trying to let you know that one can do anything and we only have one life and sometimes we let ourself fall deeper in to a hole when you just keep thinking of all the bad things and it makes you feel like life is out to get you.

your feelings are valid and important, just dont let them get you down so much, there is much out there, and just push yourself, sometimes we just need a push.

Theo, I dunno. I've suffered from a deep depression all of my life. I've only had THREE truly happy moments in my life. 1. 1988 when I saw that gleaming British Airways jet and going to England. I was so happy I was laughing and crying because my dream had come true. And when I adopted my cat, Kit. I love her more than anyone in the world - she's sort of my life insurance. I don't want to die knowing she will be looking for me. And my first car! But in London I remember one day when I was near Marble Arch, and I was crossing the street and all of these authentic British cabs had stopped and it was sprinkling but I didn't give a damn. I was THERE. Should've stayed there too. I know. There's a novel in me, and I need to write it. Dognose I've read enough books! I will keep on, keeping on,

My printer doesn't work and my shrink just hears me out and writes my prescriptions. He wants me to see this therapist but I've seen him before, and I showed him one of my drawings which was intense and angry when I was living with Ramiro in 2005. He wanted me to *color* get crayons and markers and draw for him. I don't know how to draw. I basically make triangles and use a ruler and make weird designs. Kate Bush was immense...:) I wouldn't even mention the Mall Whore in the same breath..:) I should have grown out of it by now, but it's like innuendo, it's hard to shake..:)

meh is a brilliant phrase, unfortunately the tone of voice is lost on the internet. Smilies are not quite the same thing.

Right now I am tempted to find some of her songs on youtube just to avoid listening to this Spanish radio station. No Moz.. :tears:

Check out Leonard Cohen instead..:)

Kilt Uncle

I'm struggling today.....I just went to see this lady who is having
a real problem with depression and anxiety (sorry if this bores you guys and I know it's not real groovy stuff), she's almost thirty, she lives with her
parents. She was hiding in the cupboard when I got there and I couldn't get
her to come out for an hour. Her agoraphobia has become insurmountable and her mother cannot cope any more. So, I tried calling a counselling service for her and she is supposed to be talking to them this afternoon.
I just hope something good comes out of it.
:)
Apart from that, I realise I give of myself too much and I feel like it's time
I got some back you know. I received a text from the last guy I went
out with, today and I spoke to him. I realised he's scared too. And maybe the advice my niece gave me last night was good advice. She said that to go out with someone who is in the midst of a messy divorce probably not what I'm looking for and while it's good that this guy at least is around my age,
he's probably too damaged. Well I've gone from sassy younger men to the I want secret sex while I get my head together, and now I'm not sure
at all what to do. I just know that seriously, I probably would like a relationship, but my hormones are not stable and it's really hard to
be celibate. I tried that for a long time, and fuck it. It sucks big time.
But, there is health and there is the need for something a little more
satisfying than good sex......
looks like I better have a quiet think about what it is I'm going to do
and whether I should just quit the scene for a while.......
