Sorry to hear that Kate. I'm a domestic goddess today, I've cleaned, gone to the supermarket, made a roast dinner, done 3 loads of washing and am now knitting. Check me out!

That'll be it, then. I have Wessie Cyber-Plague. :(

HAHAHAHA!

ooo be careful Kate, it might not go away...

Possible side effects:

In certain circumstances, sufferers may develop a sudden and illogical desire to move to the Westerly side of the county of Yorkshire, particularly to the areas of Wakefield and the Five Towns, where Morrissey-Solo user Amy will be waiting to greet you with a smug grin, a hot cup of cocoa and a bad case of the Wessie Cyber Plague.

The only way to remedy this mysterious illness is to become an inhabitant of West Yorkshire itself, thus developing an immunity :D

The Cat's Mother

I need jaffa cakes.

I once developed marks like stigmata on both palms. Still don't know what caused it. Got the evangelical Christian in the upstairs office at work all twitchy, though.

It was a rather silly comment about record company types sitting in their offices and "smoking their tampons". Hardly Oscar Wilde. Although I had to wonder if Morrissey meant the tampons with or without applicators. Sort of cigarette holders v rollies.

lol here is the actual quote

"On the subject of the Smiths, I thought it was very lazy of Warners not to commemorate the 20th year of The Queen Is Dead without a special edition CD - or boxed CD, or tea towel - or something! We can only assume that those highly paid and magnetically talented people at Warners are far too busy rolling their own tampons to allow art and creativity to take them away from their work. As always for the Smiths, another poignant moment wasted."

Original 1968 version the author Tove Jansson didn't approve of it, but 1990 new version she was very happy and it was also broadcasted on BBC. :)

Er.... I've just realised that you're not a farm girl. You won't have clue what I'm on about! Okay, I have a private LJ comm (to which we refer here as the farm) the main function of which is to let members say what they can't say here. It's a safety valve, but it's by no means a bitch comm; we post stuff there for laughs, plus you can post personal stuff that you want to talk about, but which you don't wish to announce to the whole forum. One main rule, though; what's said on the farm, stays on the farm. Oh, and I'm the sole mod and my word is law.*cracks knuckles* :)

I can put your name forward if you like; all members are proposed in case of objection, but I can't see any of the others objecting to you joining.

oh how sick am i of bloody car dealers, (*cough* vw *cough*)
why is it that a nearly 20 year old car, is suddenly having parts deleted, and only 'consumables' are available,(although i have issues with which bit if a fuel pump isnt a consumable) GRRR i am so pissed off with them, as it probably mean i will have to sell my 'babies' and be pushed into a more modern car just so i could get parts should i need them, it is bloody unfair and i for one cannot and do not want to afford it.

Review - Robbie Williams - Rudebox

Robbie Becomes A Wannabe

Robbie Williams has released his 8th studio album since splitting with boy band Take That, and from the sounds of it, Robbie has got sloppy. So what should you expect from “Rudebox”; Has Robbie become the white 50 Cent?, Is Robbie England’s answer to Eminem?. In short the answer is a resounding NO! I will tell you what this album sounds like, imagine Snoopy inhaling intoxicating amounts of helium and then putting on a funny voice.
Mr Williams, as he puts it himself, is “A Born Entertainer” but the only person he’s entertaining these days is himself, if record sales are anything to go by. If you were served Rudebox in a restaurant, you would send it back, unless you have no taste buds, and even then….
Everything was rosy for Williams, record sales were good, with an ever increasing popularity, but then a split from song writing partner Guy Chambers (the person that most people credit for all parts of the songs) meant that it was all change in camp Williams, a new song writing partner emerges in the shape of Stephen ’tin tin’ Duffy, and two albums in, the partnership must come under scrutiny.
I think that its about time to tell you that, and this may shock you, I am a Robbie Williams fan, I have all the albums including this one, but my patience is wearing more than thin.
The album starts of with lead single and title track “Rudebox”, which sounds like Robbie is doing one, long, continuous yawn, with lyrics which sound like a five year old child that has just discovered that he can make words rhyme. With such lyrical insights as “A D I D A S old school this is the best (yes) T K Maxx costs less (yes) Jackson looks a mess (bless)” who needs Oscar Wilde? Why this was chosen as the lead single I will never know. The second song, “Viva Life On Mars” is a country and western number which seems out of place on a dance album, but anyway, viva life on mars? Lets send Robbie there on a mission to find out, oh and he can take every copy of this album with him.
The album itself shows that Robbie must be running out of creativity, as out of 16 tracks, five are covers, which on the surface isn’t many, but it says a lot about Robbie’s confidence at the moment. The first cover song is Lovelight, initially sung by Lewis Taylor, and is by far the best song on the album, but then again, The Cheeky Girls could release a album of more meaningful songs. The next song is the throwaway “Bongo Bong and Je Ne T'aime Plus”, which just leaves me speechless, its that bad, but it is saved, but only just, by the guest appearance of Lilly Allen ( I doubt this song makes her smile). The next song, the fan boy craze of “She’s Madonna”, singing about the only person that can re-invent themselves, so take note Mr Williams!. The tabloids would have you believe that this tune is the work of the devil, But 'She's Madonna', the third single from his Rudebox fiasco, is better than the tabloid press would have you believe, with its thumping beat, courtesy of The Pet Shop Boys, and high pitched falsetto by Rob, definitely a future single. You may now be beginning to think that “Rudebox” will pick up the pace and save itself, but, oh no, think again because next comes … “Keep On”, and, oh the ironies or ironies, you definitely do not want this track to keep on going. Again Robbie shows us that he has no lyrical ability what-so-ever, as he shows with; “Got no strings But I think with my dingalingaling Can't sing can't speak ting tong's tong ting”, you have to wonder if he is starting to take the piss really, and I do start to wonder if his fans are starting to lose loyalty, that’s if he has any fans left anyway. “Good Doctor” follows, where Robbie tries to be Jamaican, with truly laughable results. In this song Robbie lists the name of prescription drugs, so is it any wonder why he ended up in rehab for his dependency of such drugs?. Yes that’s right yet another “star” has ended up in ‘rehab’ or as its known in showbiz, “holiday” or “free publicity”, one only has to look at the recent tabloid frenzy attached to Amy Winehouse. Amy checks her self into Rehab ( Looks like the finally made her go), and her album, “Back to Black” rockets back up the charts to Number two. But Amy Winehouse is a media whore, and I believe, anyway, that Robbie is not that, I believe that Robbie does have deep rooted troubles, his main trouble however, is his reputation after releasing this ridiculous, ludicrous, comical album of mishaps. Nevertheless, the album picks up with the next two songs, “The Actor” and “ Never Touch That Switch” . “The Actor” is also a great little ditty, with some half-decent lyrics, which makes a change, such as “In the future, Everybody will be anonymous for fifteen minutes, You are, we all are a test card, The stars of CCTV,
We are the nature of the beast” , Robbie deploying a turn of phrase on the “everybody will be have there 15 minutes of fame” into “Everybody will be anonymous for fifteen minutes“, which in today’s celebrity obsessed world, couldn’t be more true, the big brother generation is upon us, where celebrities come and go, Robbie has been at the top for 15 long, long, long years, should we all start to wonder if his candle is burning out? With “Never Touch That Switch” comes a welcome change of pace with its hooky warped synch chorus, and slowed down vocals. Robbie has also cited Human Leagues song ‘Louise’ as his favourite song of all time (what a privilege for Human League!), and he sees Rudebox to be the perfect place to pay homage to it, however his cover fails to replicate the magic of the original, Robbie even sees the need to repeat the spoken word bit twice, just to fill air, or maybe he thought he hadn’t said anything for the last 20 seconds, and that people were about to forget who it was they were listening to. Robbie’s next attempt of a cover is “We’re The Pet Shop Boys”, Robbie always one for being tongue in cheek, digs his tongue firmly in both cheeks, then winks at you with this song, he has Neil Tennant from The Pet Shop Boys on backing vocals, and even puts on a camp voice to sing in, yes imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, but it imitation is also the most frank form of unoriginality, at this point, Robbie should stop, and call the end on the album, release and then hibernate for 20 something years, instead, he prolongs our agony by another twenty-four long minutes, plus a bonus track, called ‘Dickhead‘, my sentiments exactly. The last four songs “Burselem Normals’ ‘Kiss Me’ ‘ The 80’s’ ‘The 90’s” and ‘Summertime’ followed by ‘Dickhead’. ‘Burselem Normals’ is exactly that, normal, it doesn’t inspire hate, nor does it inspire admiration, it just plods along and then stops, after limping home at a lengthy four minutes ten seconds. ‘ Kiss Me’ is the campest song since ‘Wake me up before you go” by WHAM! (exclamation mark optional), and serves only as a waste of space. We get taken on a trip down Robbie memory lane, with “The 80’s” and “The 90’s” , the former takes us through Robbie’s experiences in school, where he tells us “ School was a laugh, they didn't have A.D.D
Thick was the term they used for me”, ADD eh? That might explain why he cant concentrate on one subject matter for more than one song. “The 90’s” takes us through his days in Take That, but the most poignant line in this song, and most probably of the whole album comes in this song, “I can't be bothered 'cause I'm lazy”, at least he admits it! , ‘Summertime’ finishes the album, and finish it, it does, summertime is the final nail in the coffin, a song that never get started. And ladies and gentlemen, if you but this album, that’s if YOUR not too lazy, this is what you have to expect, an album of half-worked, under produced, over-complicated ideas from the man who is running out of ideas, and running out of time to produce a worthwhile album. However, in this fickle market, Robbie must be applauded for stepping out of his comfort zone and making a album he always wanted to do, but if Robbie released this album at the start of his career, he would probably be appearing in “I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here 28”, ‘Celebrity Big Brother 10’ or even worse, he might have re-joined Take That and be modelling for Marks and Spencer’s, ironically that’s what this album feels like, a pair of Marks and Spencer’s pants, over priced, cheap material and you could probably get better quality somewhere else for less.

You have to dry your hair first before you do other things.

I adore Seamus Heaney with a passion. One of the top 3 living poets. Death Of A Naturalist is a masterpiece. I had the good fortune to see him discuss his latest work District and Circle at the Hay Festival back in May (and get a signed copy), twas very exciting. Presumably you're reading him as part of your A-Level course? Hope you find the book, and if not, I hope someone else finds it, reads it and learns to love the joy that is modern Irish verse.

Seperate note on Robbie Williams... He has a strong voice and I enjoyed what he did on his album Swing When You're Winning. This was the album that was amde up of all lounge standards such as Beyond the Sea, Something Stupid with Nicole Kidman and Did You Evah with of all people Jon Lovitz.

I still hate it, but thanks for the warning.

I stand by my shock at the frinkage thing as well, I must say. I've been a Smiths/Morrissey fan since 1985 (except, for the most part, 1995-2006) and it never occurred to me that Morrissey might be considered "frinky" ("frink-worthy"? "frinkable"? "frinkish"?). A few months on here has given me the general idea, though, and now I think the frink thread must not only have the most views, but also the most extended, um, "quality" views.

Oh, and congratulations on the Bears, and sorry about the Cubs, but after all, they're the Cubs, that's what they do, right?

If one doesn't eat for a while, say 2 or 3 days, except for a Hershey's with Almonds bar, one eventually gets extremely hungry.

I think she's on crank. Look at her hair and her skin. Plus that guy that testified against her said she talks to herself and her kids in made up languages. Sounds like a tweaker to me.

I am not arguing that she's not on drugs!
I'm saying she was probably self medicating and being 'wild and young' but it probably exacerbated the underlying condition.

Women are totally evil and deceitful though. that isn't something you can argue about. its the truth.

yes, but the term "munchies" is usually referred to the hunger you get from actually doing the drug. like say you smoke pot, and then minutes later you want a fucking taco like your life depended on it. you go a few days w/out eating of COURSE you're gonna be hungry. but smoking crank in itself wouldnt make you hungry. it would do the opposite. why do you think meth-heads go days w/out food in the first place?

Mice are smelly because they are inherently incontinent. Not their fault, but.... *holds nose* Maybe Russian or Chinese hamsters would be a better choice. Or gerbils. We have a lovely, friendly Syrian hamster called sPenelope, but Syrians have to be kept as solitary or they tend to kill each other, so they're not much good if the children want one each.

They are happy to share one little rodent....a guess a hamster could be quite cute...I am not too keen on gerbils as I looked after the school one in the holidays when I was a kid and it ate my jumper when my Mum left the ironing too close to its cage! Thanks for the advice!

Russian and Chinese hamsters like their solitude.Russian ones are much smaller and look like rats to me.They rattle the cage all night so I guess it would have to be located out of ear shot. They are sweet though..a pea and a tiny piece of meat is a Sunday roast and one shreddie is an absolute feast.

I don't really fancy the rattling during the night bit...and if it escaped when I was in the house alone I would be forced to spend the day perched on a chair awaiting rescue! And cleaning out all the wee and poo doesn't exactly appeal (the children will get bored with that very quickly and, like the goldfish, it will be "down to Mummy" before the week is out!)

It's a perfectly dreadful creature. Often, the mice are unharmed, just panicked, and lead us a merry chase while we capture them for re-release. If I'm lucky, the Spidercat will drop them straight into my hand.

With a few rare exceptions, tortoiseshell cats are female. It's not true that all ginger cats are male, however. I can't remember the genetics but I think about two thirds of ginger cats are male. Anyway, it's all to do with sex-linkage on the genes for red or black fur.
