Mines worse, I have to listen to Kiss Fm at work (bad dance music and heavy on the RnB) and it's enough to drive me insane. At the moment it's Pink's latest. Actually, this is one of the best things I've heard all day, which says it all!

I used to work in an office where they would insist on Kiss FM, It's awful. I totally know how you feel. I didn't realise how many times people had asked what are you listening to right now. I thought it was a fun question but it looks like I wasn't the only one. Right now, it's Opened Once by Jeff Buckley. I hope Kiss plays something half decent soon.

Great minds think alike! Hmm, I don't think kiss even have anything good to play. I just have to keep my fingers crossed for something decent like Eminem or Basement Jaxx as opposed to Kanye West and ex members of Destiny's child! Argh!!!

"Man-Slag". Written and performed by my thirteen year old daughter. I think she has rather confused feelings for this boy, lol! Here's the lyric:

Man-Slag

"You're such a man-slag and a two-timing tart.
I'm writing about you and you're wasting my arm.
My friend says she loves you and I say that you're hot,
But you know you're not really breaking my heart.

You got a bj off the class slut;
She was a wannabe Vicky Pollard.
Every time you joke at me and turn me down,
I remember the time you wore my bra

Every day you flirt with me. You feel my arse -
I think it's kinda sweet.
Everyone else says that you're a pervert,
But I think you're kinda neat

Me and Abbie think that your favourite subject
Is definitely your penis.
We both think you're really obsessed
By your small and shrivelled penis."

And to think, at that age I was gazing at my Bay City Rollers posters and sighing romantically....

I forgot to add to my previous post regarding Leonard Cohen; who else beside Cohen and Morrissey should be able to sing the Cohen line ""I was born like this, I had no choice I was born with the gift of a golden voice"?

If that isn't the line that would get an entire theater of fans cheering if Morrissey were to cover "Tower of Song" I don't know what would.

Funny, I rushed out and bought that album, some six or seven years ago, after hearing a live rendition of the third mov. on NPR's "Performance Today". Since then, I don't think a single month has passed when I haven't, at least once, sat down and played the symphony through to the end. :)

I got in on Morrissey's recommendation and I play it an awful lot too. I'm playing it tonight (and last night) because I caught bits of the movie Basquiat yesterday and one scene had it in the background. I thought, Screw this movie about this painter I don't even like; I need to play Gorecki No.3 again!

24-Hour Store - Handsome Family
Do you like the Handsome Family, Freya?! *clutches heart*

I did not care much for "Singing Bones", but I thought both "Twilight" and "Through the Trees" wonderful indeed.

Down In The Valley Of Hollow Logs
Down in the valley of hollow logs two lovers lay in the weeds wrapped in the net of their sweaty arms safe from the wind in the trees. "My love," said the boy. "You're the clear blue sky, you're the air I gulp to breathe. I feel you rushing through my veins like the wind rushing through the trees." "My love," said the girl, "You're my secret pearl. You're a string of tiny glass beads. You're a burning star I keep in a jar safe from the wind in the trees." Down in the valley of hollow logs two lovers lay back in the weeds listening to the howl of hunting dogs and the wind howling through the trees. Then insects ran for the underbrush as the wind filled the air with dead leaves and every stone moved closer to dust as the wind tore through the trees. So the young girl pierced her lily-white breast. Her blood poured over dark weeds. A silver dagger through her burning heart, cold as the wind in the trees. So the boy picked up that bloody knife and stove it through his chest. "Farewell, farewell to the wind and the trees. I'll die with the one I love best." ;)

Pet Shop Boys & Dusty Springfield - "What Have I Done To Deserve This?"

My favourite song ever at the moment. The way Dusty, and only Dusty could, brings it to a climax with "We don't have to fall apart, we don't have to fight/We don't need to go to hell and back every night" is gut-burstingly amazing. And it also contains one of my favourite couplets ever: "At night, the people come and go/They talk too fast and walk too slow". I can't explain why I love that so much, but I do.

The Greatest - Cat Power
(My iTunes most played song)

I wonder if anybody here likes Cat Power?
I enjoy that particular song from her new album, as well as much of the material from "What Would the Community Think", and "Moon Pix". The problem I have is with her lyrics, which are often oblique and too thick with cryptic muddle to be personally meaningful, despite the stark eloquence I may find in the musicianship or all the curds of harrowing and empathic richness in her voice; she speaks neither to me nor, more importantly, in my place.

Sister
June 19, 2006, 10:11 AM
That is probably true. But it's beautiful and you can feel her pain.
The albums you mentioned are my favourite. I particularly love Good Clean Fun and Moonshiner.
