My name is Luka
I live on the second floor
I live upstairs from you
Yes I think you've seen me before

If you hear something late at night
Some kind of trouble, some kind of fight
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was

I think it's because I'm clumsy
I try not to talk too loud
Maybe it's because I'm crazy
I try not to act too proud

They only hit until you cry
After that you don't ask why
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore

Yes I think I'm okay
I walked into the door again
If you ask that's what I'll say
And it's not your business anyway
I guess I'd like to be alone
With nothing broken, nothing thrown

Just don't ask me how I am
Just don't ask me how I am
Just don't ask me how I am

My name is Luka
I live on the second floor
I live upstairs from you
Yes I think you've seen me before

It was January, 1963
When Johnny came home with a gift for me
He said I bought it for you because I love you
And I bought it for you because it's your birthday, too
He was so very nice, he was so very kind
To think of me at this point in time
I used to think of him, he used think of me
He told me to close my eyes
My gift would be a great surprise
I saw tears were in his eyes
He never meant to hurt me
Oh, God, Johnny, don't point that gun at me
There's so many ways our lives have changed
But please, I beg, don't do this to me
Johnny, don't point that gun at me
Can I save my life at any price?
For God's sake won't you listen to me?

And though he was ashamed that he had took a life
Johnny came home with another wife
And he often remembered how it used to be
Before that special occasion, 1963
There was too many ways that you could kill someone
Like in a love affair, when the love is gone
He told me to close my eyes
My gift would be a great surprise
I saw hatred in his eyes
He never meant to hurt me
Oh, God, Johnny, don't point that gun at me
There's so many ways our lives have changed
But please, I beg, don't do this to me
Johnny, you keep on using me
Can I change my life for any price?
Oh, Johnny, won't you listen to me?

He told me to close my eyes
My gift would be a great surprise
I saw hatred in his eyes
But he never meant to hurt me
Oh, God, Johnny, don't point that gun at me
There's so many ways our lives have changed
But please, I beg, don't do this to me
Johnny, you keep on using me
Can I change my life for any price?
Oh, Johnny, won't you listen to me?

I just want you to be mine,
I don't want this world to shine
I don't want this bridge to burn
Oh, Johnny, do you miss me?
I just want to feel for you
I will always feel for you...

The other week I received the news that a member of a website dedicated to swedish band Broder Daniel had been murdered next to a cash machine in Gothenburg. Since this friendly forum was a great complement to Solo for many years I found it absolutely shocking to hear what had happened. For Broder Daniel fans there has been a lot of sadness in recent years with the suicide of their guitarist Anders Göthberg and then the news about the fan Per Nordkvist who was stabbed to death.

I got to think about this again when I was watching this brilliant clip from Broder Daniel's farewell gig in Per's and the bands hometown of Gothenburg that was shown on national tv here in Sweden. At the end of the song the band hugs the parents of their former guitarist who watched the last gig beside the band onstage.

The first proper indie band before we even used the description for that genre here in Sweden. The band Easy was so hyped up for no apparent reason but those that were already into foreign indie bands just loved them and so did I. The album "Magic Seed" is just a few lads having fun in a studio and it wasn't perfect but had a special feel about it.

The tour ended in Gothenburg and the last gig was filmed and shown on tv here. Of all the songs Jose played the cover of Joy Divisions "Love will tear us apart" impressed me the most due to him bringing out a whole band or orchestra it seemed from his accoustic guitar.

Found myself listening to Zarah Leander singing "ack värmeland du sköna" which in english is something like "oh värmeland you beautiful" (or lovely). This song is like Swedens second national song and is about a part of Sweden called Värmland, famous for its forests and creative people within most art forms. Zarah Leander was of course most famous for being a star in nazi Germany and was a particular favorite of Adolf Hitler. For this she was much disliked by many in Sweden but in recent years it turned out that Zarah more or less fooled the nazis into thinking she was one of them.

Anyway, an old friend and work colleague of my mother who also became a dear friend of mine performed as Leander in gay clubs as Zarah became a huge gay icon during the 70's and 80's. Leander spent her last days of her life in the same hospital as this dear friend of me and my mother and according to him Zarah Leanders spirit flew into him when she died just a few corridors away. During the years I spent partying with him and his male partner we often talked about this time in his life and sometimes listened to her music. I became friends with him and his partner during the time when they lived in a small village in Värmland.

We've since drifted apart and he's on his last legs now sadly the victim of alcohol abuse and illness. He was always a lot like a male version of Zarah Leander.

The song is about the province Värmland and how those that are born there also wants to stay or return there to be laid to rest in the Värmland soil. What made Zarah so special is her strong voice that was always inbetween a female voice and a male voice. This recording must be from an old celebration of midsummer in Sweden and features an interview clip where Zarah talks about the people of Värmland and their creative and artistic skills.
I suggest Morrissey uses this as an intro when performing live in Sweden.

Even if they were the geekiest band in history, they are cool :p

Geeky looking and acted like geeks as well most of the time but the music was never geeky and the lyrics were always amazing I feel, full of wit and personal experience. Inbetween the lines Patrick lets slip that he is ill somehow but I don't know how bad it is. Seems I've lost the link to his own website as he now seems to live alone with his dog.

Anyway, this song shows how much more clever and witty the man Patrick Fitzgerald is compared to Morrissey as they both made a song about how much they hate Thatcher.

Yes, he had a kidney transplant in 2008 and then released an album in 2009. Haven't heard much of him lately though. I've heard simply lives alone with his dog too, maybe he perfers being alone than being in a relationship...who knows?
1. He Holds Her, He Needs Her (not even Johnny Marr can write a melody as good as that)
2. Cowboys and Aliens (although the whole album rocks)
3. Railwayed

That explains his health issues then but at least he is able to work. Seems quite busy travelling as well here and there.

It is not fair having to name ones favourite KOD songs, I know, but I had to make myself do that and you as well. Even the album titles are cool or big statements some of them.

Yeah but my top 3 will always be favourites but everything they did was great and had something that moved me somehow. I love the way they met and decided to make music that sounded spacy and it is that sound that fascinates me as well as the lyrics of course. Many of them are about Patrick's experiences as a gay man trying to find love or getting hurt in the process.

Let us go back to this thread being about what people listen to. I appreciate you taking your time Davie.

Broder Daniel toured Sweden at the end of 2003 and I saw their gig in Stockholm. The gig in Gothenburg was recorded and released as a live DVD. This is one of the songs from that night a few days before xmas of 2003. Most of the songs from that gig can be found here:

I owe it to my ex that I got to see this band live a few times. Considered to be Swedens greatest live band with some real characters as band members. Singer Thomas sings in his native southern swedish accent and is like a Duracell rabbitt onstage. It is now 6 years since I last saw them live and despite them singing in swedish a few americans were present to see that comeback gig in 2006. Swedish national tv recently showed a brilliant documentary about the band.

Singer Thomas came out to shake the hands of those queuing to get in as he has this hands on approach when it comes to the fans of this band. My ex worked a little for the band and had the honour of working in the bar when their manager celebrated his 40th birthday. Whenever I listen to them I remember this girl from Stockholm who was a huge fan and who sadly died in the Thailand tsunami just minutes after posting a comment on a website dedicated to the band.

Sorry about the sound here and there as this seems to be taken from some old VHS tape :lbf:

Just wanna post a song as a tribute to my mothers girlfriend who never became my mother-in-law although me and my girlfriend never have been planning to marry or anything. She died on the day that rarely is, 29th of February, due to complications after an hip operation that caused a massive heart attack. I often hear people saying they do not fear dying and it is easy to day that but as we saw my girlfriends mother the day after in the small morgue chapel I suddenly felt no fear when it comes to death.

The cover that is better than the original seemed fitting somehow.

I haven't heard this song in years. And even though the whole album sounds like an Adult Contemporary version of Iron Maiden, I must admit to still really loving this song (from my pre-adolescent Power Metal days. :lbf: ).

It's easily my favorite song from them/the album (Parallels). That said, not all the songs on Parallels were particularly great/memorable anyway, due at least in part to the (IMHO) rather stark and cold, dated, uber-90's production and occasionally cheesy drum programming.

I received a quite moving email from an old Solo friend who asked me if I at least could remain on Solo to post what music I listen to and post things that happen in Sweden. I see no reason why I shouldn't do so and I hope I have the mods permission to post in this thread and the one about what happens in Sweden.

Just now I am reliving the music of swedish folk music band "Garmarna" who made the genre a bit more modern. They are influenced by old myths and stories from the old times in Sweden when people believed in mysterious creatures of nature and were more superstitious. What make this band great in my view is the female singer who sings in a style that were common way back.

From the album "Guds Spelemän" (Gods musicians):

This song took me some 20 years back. When most people travelled to sunny nice places the swedish band The Mobile Homes travelled to depressing places in Germany to get inspiration. You could hardly describe these boys as optimistic or upbeat but them choosing german electric plants instead of the beach made them and their music and lyrics very interesting. Lyrics that you could easily relate to even 20 years later.

If you can find it anywhere! listen to it! It's a masterpiece from Vini and the female singer, I can't remember who she was, but Vini needs her back NOW!

See you in your next life, when we'll fly away for good
Stars in our own car, we can drive away from here

Far away, so far away, down to Worthing and work there
Far away, we'll go far away and flog ice creams til the company's on its knees

See you in your next life, when we'll fly away for good

While chimneys seep
My room is dark
The wardrobe sees you sleep
There's nothing here
But rumbles from our street
And I'm left wanting more

I've tried to ask, but
While stooping down
Your mouth began to gasp
"Oh look at that
I think I'd better pass"
So I'm left wanting more.

Given time and a cheep damp room
And I will show you
All the love and wonder
You could buy.

This town lies calm
The low sun climbs
And if you give me time
I'll take you in my arms
And tend you like a vine
But I'm left wanting more.

Your love, it lies
Those hands deny the hatred in your eyes
So turn that down
And give me a reply,
But I'm left wanting more.

Al great loves of this world
Are cast asunder, because
Here comes my thunder
Just for tonight
No need to buy.
