The Sun Today?

Apparently The Sun has a top ten of solo careers after splitting from bands. Morrissey is at number 1 with Paul Weller at number 2. Someone on the Paul Weller forum posted it.

I don't read the Sun so haven't seen it and it's not on their online version, but nice to hear he's getting that kind of mainstream acknowledgement.

I don't know if anyone else has posted the snippet from this months Uncut regarding Weller and Moz.

It says that in 1992 Morrissey slipped a postcard under Weller's hotel bedroom door suggesting they duet.

It read "The thought of us on stage together is positively hallucinatory".

They've been on Moz's side for a while - Dominic Mohan (Showbiz editor?)
is a fan.

Big contrast to the eighties.

The things I do - I'd just like to point out that only a Moz/Smiths story has prompted me to buy the Sun. I feel so ashamed. Anyway, the article compares the solo material of British male artists to an album they made as part of a band. It's done in the context of a huge spread for Richard Ashcroft, hence the opening paragraph.

"Fans were dismayed when The Verve split after the huge success of Urban Hymns, but it was time to move on for Richard Ashcroft as he became one of an elite group of British male rock stars who have broken up their much-love bands and gone on to make top solo albums. Here STFW (the pull-out section) picks ten of the best:"

1: The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead; Never did Johnny Marr's lush guitar sounds meet Morrissey's melancholy and dazzling wit to such devastating effect as here. Eighties music didn't get any better. Key track: There Is A Light That Never Goes Out.

Morrissey - Your Arsenal; Quite a departure for Mozza. A hard-rocking beast by his standards, its surefire swagger nicely underscored some of his best writing. At times biting, at times moving. Key track: I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday.

The chart continues in a similar vein with the following:

2: The Jam - All Mod Cons; Paul Weller - Wild Wood
3: The Beatles - Revolver; Various solo albums
4: Genesis - Selling England By The Pound; Peter Gabriel - So
5: The Police - Outlandos D'Amour; Sting - Ten Summoner's Tales
6: The Faces - A Nod Is As Good As A Wink To A Blind Horse; Rod Stewart - Every Picture Tells A Story
7: The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses; Ian Brown - Golden Greats
8: Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure; Bryan Ferry - These Foolish Things
9: Take That - Never Forget (The Ultimate Collection); Robbie Williams - Greatest Hits
10: Led Zeppelin - Four Symbols; Robert Plant - Mighty Rearranger

So there you have it. In the Sun, of all papers. Nice to be top of the pile for a change.

Well, Mr Goat, I agree. I hate Murdoch and everything he does and has done. Unfortunately when a Moz tale appears I am drawn near. To get the details of the story I had to buy it. It now has pride of place in my hallway under my walking boots which have just been used on a sheep-laden moor. Like I said, I feel ashamed. Still, hey ho, here comes an album!!

Best WIshes,

Re: Shameless!

Your only saving grace is to ensure the paper is recycled!

What would Bushell say?

hahahahah I bet MoZ loves this aknowledgment lol

Re: What would Bushell say?

He's probably find a way to call Moz a paedophile.

It's almost touching, really....

..... that they found room to dedicate so many words to the subject, between their all-important football specials and the nudie pictures of large-breasted women.
