best Moz song?

I know this is a very difficult question to answer - but..

What do you think is Morrissey's greatest song of his solo career so far?
Which one epitomizes the best representation of Morrissey, lyrics, vocal melody, music etc?

Maybe we could narrow it down to best song (a or b side) off each album
and go from there.

'I know it's gonna happen someday'

Some songs come and go but this one's always up there.

I would go with songs like:

Trouble Loves Me
Now My Heart is Full
We'll Let You Know

I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday is a great one - but I just don't feel it encapsulates Morrissey.

Now my Heart is Full or I've Changed my Plea to Guilty?

I love "I've Changed My Plea..." especially the live Jonathan Ross 1990
version

NATIONAL FRONT DISCO I WANT THE DAY TO COME SOONER

I think we're already seeing a consensus, to which I'll add: Now My Heart Is Full.

One will probably never truly get a thorough consensus from such a disparate, eclectic, large group of people such as Morrissey fans, but in my years of reading through forums the closest we ever seem to get is _Vauxhall and I_ for "best/most representative LP" and "Now My Heart Is Full" for "best/most representative track."

And not without reason, either. It really is perhaps the greatest thing he's ever written. For a few alternatives, I'd opt for Jack The Ripper, Boxers, or Hold On To Your Friends. I personally love We'll Let You Know immensely, but not sure I could recommend it as a potential "greatest." Ditto "Whatever Happens, I Love You" -- just an awesome, awesome track that is easily a Top 10 for me, but something prevents me from recommending it as a potential "greatest Moz song." I guess there's some tracks you just personally love so much but recognise are of only decent, but not great, quality.

Haven't been on this board for awhile, nice to stop by again!

Cheers all,

I'm shocked no one has mentioned.....

"Speedway."

Thats the apex of the solo career thus far.

As for the Smiths, its hard to top "Shoplifters..." IMO

Speedway is a classic example of a track that I don't love quite as much as, say, a We'll Let You Know or a Whatever Happens I Love You... and yet I'd recommend Speedway over both to someone looking for a "definitive Moz track." It is definitely VERY him. And of course, it resides on the sublime Vauxhall LP.

I sure wish there was a way to express how much I love that album. But of course there isn't.

It´s impossible to say just one song. Some of the best for me are:
Southpaw
Sunny
Nobody Loves Us
I Have Forgiven Jesus

MY Fav.

Throughout his whole career, for me, its There is a Light That Never Goes Out. My god, it is just so damn true. We all remember that as a teenager, we all felt that way at some point, and it really brings you back. Sadly, a huge part of me is still that person, even at 28!

You weren't even alive in 1970. You no nothing about nothing.
