Complete Interpol and therefore Joy Division rip-offs. Meaningless lyrics. His voice is a horrible copy of Ian Curtis and Ian McCulloch. Just awful.

My opinion obviously does matter if you felt moved enough to type a childish tirade against me.

You're clearly an idiot, though. Not only because you defend The Editors so vehemently, but also because of your English which is only really excusable if you're not an English speaker. And your logic is all over the place.

Amazing what you can tell from a few sentences.

I've known about them for a few weeks. They don't set my world on fire or anything, but I love the music. Very Interpol/Joy Division, but I can dig it. It has more "refined" JD sound, if that makes any sense. More accessible.

I wouldn't mind seeing them live.

You seem to be related to Here's What You Should Do. Same idiocy and bad English.

I don't think my criticism of The Editors has anything to do with Be Yourself (not Freeyourself as you oddly said). I am sorry if I offended them. I just have this habit of voicing my opinion which is usually, as it is now, correct.

Yeah, regardless of what the unpleasant twerp below had to say, Editors have made an excellent debut album that contains at least two of the finest singles of the year in 'Blood' and 'Munich'.
No one is saying they are the second coming, but their album shows considerable potential and they are formidable live.
The Interpol/Joy Division references are somewhat predictable and typical of the kind of lazy journalism that seeks to undermine most new bands, but even so, they are/were both fine bands (Antics by Interpol was another highlight for me), so it's hardly an insult.
Rather Interpol/Joy Division, than Coldplay/The Strokes/Libertines or whoever else everyone is trying to sound like this week.
Weren't The Smiths compared to Aztec Camera by some cloth-eared fool in an early review?
I hope Editors aren't clubbed to death with the 'Joy Division copyist' tag, in the same way that another band who I was very fond of, Gene, were, by the constant references to Moz /The Smiths.

Okay, ignoring the fact that they are wholly unoriginal - their lyrics are still rubbish. "You don't need this disease/you don't/you don't need this disease..." ad infinitum does not a good song make. And I don't know what you're talking about when you mention predictable and lazy journalism undermining The Editors. Every magazine is just as dumb as you. I haven't read one bad review about them.

And the difference with Gene is that they had talent. To me their only defect was their big similarity to The Smiths.

But the bottom line is that The Editors are boring as fuck. They bring absolutely nothing new to a music scene already drenched in stolen lyrics, riffs and images.

You would appreciate just how exhilarating and exciting they are... And Gene were fantastic but being compared to the Smiths all the time must have weighed down their chances of success. Which is a terrible shame coZ if any band deserved to make it BIG they did.. RoZZer's lyrics were unparalleled!

Perhaps you should learn to control your premature ejaculation problem before you attempt to join in when the grown-ups are talking.
Still, against my better judgement, I'm prepared to take this opportunity to educate you.

> Okay, ignoring the fact that they are wholly unoriginal

Unoriginal? Who fucking cares about "originality"?
There are a thousand, so-called, "avant garde" "artists" who you can listen to while you sew leather elbow patches onto your tweed jacket.
So they remind you of Interpol/Joy Division, so fucking what.
You say that like it's a bad thing.
We enjoy it when someone gives a different twist to something we already like, you know, like Morrissey did when he appropriated the wit and style of Oscar Wilde, and borrowed so extensively from Shelagh Delaney, amongst others.
"Originality" comes in many forms, not least is a particular fusion of styles and influences that create something 'new', something not quite the same as what preceded it, but where some of the influences are evident.
Apart from a few bitter types, no one gives a fuck.

- their lyrics are
> still rubbish. "You don't need this disease/you don't/you don't need
> this disease..." ad infinitum does not a good song make.

And you'd know all about what makes a "good song" I suppose.
Have you mastered 'Ring around the roses' yet from your "Learn To Play Guitar Like Everyone Else" books?
We all know that Morrissey has an exceptional talent when it comes to writing lyrics, which makes it difficult for us to accept lyrics that don't reach these unfeasibly high standards, even from Morrissey himself, but any fool can take a line out of context and pour scorn upon it, yes, even from Morrissey's lyrics, if they were so inclined.

And I don't
> know what you're talking about when you mention predictable and lazy
> journalism undermining The Editors.

Well allow me to explain then.
It's lazy and predictable journalism writing Editors off as nothing more than a Joy Division tribute act.
There, does that make it any clearer for you?

Every magazine is just as dumb as you.
> I haven't read one bad review about them.

That's because, unlike you, they have the ability to write good songs and play them extremely well.

> And the difference with Gene is that they had talent. To me their only
> defect was their big similarity to The Smiths.

Yes, we've already established that you demand 100% "originality" before you're prepared to stop masturbating and pay attention.

> But the bottom line is that The Editors are boring as fuck.

Don't you mean as boring as never getting a "fuck", which is all you are qualified to discuss.

They bring
> absolutely nothing new to a music scene already drenched in stolen lyrics,
> riffs and images.

'Panic' sounds very much like 'Metal Guru', so what?
Talent borrows, genius steals.

You're outburst was highly inappropriate, given that, as another poster has pointed out, I had gone to the trouble of posting the CD in question for those who might want to hear it.
I know you are only a child, and are struggling with your sexuality, but you really do need to learn some manners.

It's one thing releasing live shows, which are often released/available at the mercy of many underhand characters, recorded somewhat illegally at a show, but then recording a whole album like this AND releasing that album to the world, not just here, is just crazy and also mad.

Although your original intentions may have been honerable, the option you have is now is to delete this pirate copy and to urge all readers to go out and purchase the genuine thing, from a local store.

Yeah, you're right, I was acting "crazy and also mad" taking the time to post this album, when it would have been so much easier to just direct people to Editors official site, www.editorsofficial.com, where they can, with the express permission of the band and their record company, download the entire album.

So, although your intentions may have been honourable, you can see how misguided your attempts to police the internet were on this occasion.

Ooh! It stings.

> We enjoy it when someone gives a different twist to something we already like, you know, like Morrissey did when he appropriated the wit and style of Oscar Wilde, and borrowed so extensively from Shelagh Delaney, amongst others.

Yes, but no one before The Smiths SOUNDED like The Smiths (not even Aztec Camera). What Morrissey came up with was genius influenced by Wilde, Delaney etc. What The Editors came up with was drivel stolen from Interpol, Joy Division etc.

> "Originality" comes in many forms, not least is a particular fusion of styles and influences that create something 'new', something not quite the same as what preceded it, but where some of the influences are evident."

Yeah. I know.

You are really bad at character assassinations, aren't you?

> Well allow me to explain then. It's lazy and predictable journalism writing Editors off as nothing more than a Joy Division tribute act. There, does that make it any clearer for you?

Erm... no. In The Editors case it's extremely viable to write them off as a Joy Division covers band 'cause that's all they really are.

> That's because, unlike you, they have the ability to write good songs and play them extremely well.

In your stupid opinion.

> Yes, we've already established that you demand 100% "originality" before you're prepared to stop masturbating and pay attention.

I'm just curious where it says that. I am not saying it does or doesn't but it would be very strange for Sony, especially, to give away recordings. I see the usual song samples, and they offer a live version of Munich, but I can't see the part where they give their permission to download their entire record.

So you think it's inconceivable that I should have friends in Dublin, which is just a hop, skip and a jump from Manchester where I live?
You also appear to find it doubtful that, were I to set eyes on this cowardly little termite, I would approach him and ask him to repeat his insults to my face.
You are so convinced of this that you have taken it upon yourself to, once again, post a message to that effect, with some of your own trademark cowardice very much to the fore.

It's not difficult to see why you were among the most reviled posters on MorrisseyMusic.com (yes, he was the absurd and ridiculous "david_5").
And you have the temerity to tell ME that I "need a new act"!

The fact is that no one could point to a single occasion where I have attacked someone on this site without provocation, and yes, I believe if someone is "brave" enough to insult me on this site, then they should be prepared to do it to my face, and then face the consequences of their actions.
This is something so far outside of your sphere of understanding that I won't waste any more of my time addressing you.

They actually offer the album, in it's entirety, to "listen" to on their official website, which i took as an invitation to download/record, as Editors have always been happy for people to download/share their music in the past.
This partly explains how they "came from nowhere", to having a big-selling album and sold-out shows almost "overnight".
But you're right, nowhere does it actually give "permission" to download it, but this is implicit I think.
Please permit me the use of 'poetic license', after all, I am writing these messages....

I've given up the ciggies as well, which means i have to stop drinking for a while, it's always that post-alcohol fag spree which gets me, good luck!

When are the Pipettes? I like them. The Go Team are playing down the Coal Exchange I think and someone is playing in the Point but can't remember who.. (but I'll find out now)

No no luck with the NME thing. I was off ill and missed the announcement. And Graham Coxon sold out and all?
Right I'm going to go on the Clwb Ifor and Barfly website now.
Thanks for the info.

The Smiths & Morrissey night will be a complete laugh. As its my birthday and all. (well the weekend after my birthday which is on the Tuesday... St Valentines Day! Eeeek) ahh 14 again

Is it the automatic? I can't remember when they're playing, i know they're doing the NYE gig in Barfly though, i sort of wish i was going, but i can't stand the hype of New Year's Eve so will be sitting at home until it all goes away & dies a horrible death.

The Pipettes' gig is January 14th, month before your birthday! The Suffrajets are playing barfly on your birthday, band with possibly the worst name in the world, Gemma, the ex-drummer from Babyshambles is with them now though, so you could always go & see that for Novelty's sake! No doubt you'll be drunk & throwing up on yourself by then anyway

The Smiths night should be good, & it's an 18+ show which is always handy, i hate those bloody bands they give you just so you can get served at the bar!
Oooh it's snowing!

I know. ooh. Don't think its settling though.

I'd go and see the Modern cos they look like they're into Roxy Music but its the night after the Smiths thing.

Don't laugh I'm going to a health farm for New Year. With my mother. AAaaaaarghhh. What was I thinking? (I'm not gay by the way, well only on Sundays)
Went to Cornwall last year... its good to get away! But I had a girlfriend and mates then.
(But a health farm... word on the street is Peter Stringfellow may very well be there too......)

Shes the one who had to leave Babyshambles isn't it cos she couldn't handle it? Lightweight! Or maybe not.

Kate Bush on Radio 2 now. "Man With The Child In His Eyes"

Bloke who sits next to me said thank god they started playing something decent re: bLOBBY rOBBIE. This is immediately after they had played T-Rex Telegram Sam
and Johnny cash Ring Of Fire.

NO TASTE

Good god, i hate robbie williams (though i'm going to see Take That twice haha, Robbie's a pillock though). You should really quit your job, it's bound to steal your soul if you have to work with people like that.

Cardiff's a bit pants when you have no other half, & for some reason you always end up bumping in to one of your exes. Luckily a lot of my ex-boyfriends seem to be musically retarded, thank god, so i can go to all of the gigs i want without fear of awkwardness. Otherwise i'd have to move i think.

A health farm sounds like a good idea, & you can hide away until the horrible time of year's all over! Just make sure it's not a church of scientology disguised as a health farm, you hear about these things on the news, & i can't imagine anything worse than acting like Tom Cruise.

Got your hands on the leaked Arctic Monkeys album yet?

My Robert Johnson moment was years ago. My New Year thing is to get a new job, preferably abroad teaching English! Although I haven't a degree. Looks like anyone can do it. YOu havne't met mad Lisa Simpson, she went off on the sick for 3 months and came back with new breasts. (That is her name by the bye)

Bumping into exes? Hmm the last one is in Vietnam so that ain't going to happen in a while! Her visa ran out. HA HA. Only joking, shes working for the UN over there. However invariably when we stepped out together, in a "gang", I bumped into exes. Chance would be a fine thing now!

It seemed a good idea at the time, the health farm, but as the day approaches... oh well I'm having a peat bath! Should be a laugh.

Arctic Monkeys? Who are they then :-)
No I haven’t. Where can I get a copy? I like what I’ve heard by them, especially Fake Tales Of San Francisco. “You’re not from New York, you’re from Rotherham!”

That's the chemicals they put in chicken! They'll give you double D's overnight. In anne robinson's case it also stretched her face out a bit, the world's gone crazy. Is her name actually Lisa Simpson?! Or is it just a name you made up? I have a bad habit of making up nicknames for people ('cause my memory's shit & i forget everyone's names) & then telling them when i'm drunk, ughh i just shouldn't drink.

Teaching abroad sounds like a good idea, & i don't think you need a degree. My friend went to teach in Africa before she came to Univeristy, she couldn't speak the same language as the children but got on really well. Where would you want to go? You should get some practice in Whitchurch, most of the kids there don't seem to be able to speak English properly "OH BRE GISSA FAG!!". I want to go & work on an organic farm for a little while next year, probably in Italy, you don't get paid but they put you up & you get the meals for free, don't think i could commit to a job full-time abroad though, i'd miss Britain too much! They have organic farms in the Gower as well, might bugger off there for a bit.

Uploading the album for you now

I think i prefer the demo versions of a lot of the songs though they've slowed them down a wee bit.

> VIVA MOZ.

The irony is that I'd have been long gone by now, were it not for the dregs of the site rising up to try and intimidate me recently.
As if!
The fact is, I have refused to allow a few pitiful imbeciles, who have the combined brain force of a small onion, to think that they had 'driven me out'.
'pie' is a filthy rat who appears to be trying to make a name for himself in the only way he knows how, by being a busy troll on a tawdry website (yes, he really is that desperate)
I've seen and heard it all before, the likes of him are ten a penny.
Both 'dazzak' and the rat, have turned a perfectly civilised parting gesture on my part, posting the Editors CD, into a tiresome bitchfest, which goes to show what a depraved pair of maggots they are.
A stupid child who hasn't yet learned how to conduct himself properly, and a ridiculous man in his forties who gets off on launching unnecessary, and unprovoked, attacks on strangers on the internet.
Of course I'll still look in from time to time, and may make the odd post if the mood takes me, but by and large I'm pretty much done with this place.
Unfortunately, the handful of people I find likeable here are far outnumbered by the mind-numbingly tedious, and the desperate attention-seeking cretins, so I think I'll spend my time more productively and leave this cesspit to the terminally dull, present company excepted of course.
Take care.

You're a legend! Thanks very much. If I see you at a gig, I'll buy you a pint/ gin n tonic !?!?!

I'll be sporting my blue Salford Lads Club t-shirt at the Smiths tribute thing and I'll be with a few maturer people (well my mum... joke) dancing in an embarrassing Dad's way (well a few of them are actually fathers!) We'll be in the tactical position near the bar and the rear! Can't be dealing with that getting up on the stage malarkey! Did that in St Davids Hall 95... my mates got the video!

Well being honest I find myself perfectly likeable here, nowhere else, but here I'm a hero of my own making.

I find you likeable too FYS and those that go between insults and tedium are shall we say...worth less than a dead aunts flymo mower.
