There was a heart-stopping moment last week.
The compere for the evening came on and said "There's been a change to the programme for tonight" WHATTTT!!! "Sadly Granada sent the wrong tape for the Other Side of Midnight Special on Stones Roses; The Smiths film is, however, unaffected"
Collective and audible "PHEWW!" from the sparse audience.
And so we were treated instead to Anthony H. Wilson introducing 23 year old Elvis Costello from his early performance at Eric's some Stranglers and Sex Pistols.
Then THE BIG ONE. Cue animated intor to the South Bank Show, a 'talking head' from a youthful and less-jowley looking Melvyn Bragg, and a clip of George Formby singing "Why don't women like me?" There were interviews with Moz sat behind a desk - looking very pleased with himself when he said something funny - and I have to say that it was lovely being in an audience that laughed at the same things that I laughed at. There was a brief interview with Jo O'Keefe (A Fan) who made evryone laugh with her "at least I don't think I'm a boy" line and with Shaun Duggan (Another Fan).
On Morrissey's desk a large Pritt Stick was artfully placed as was a stack of books on his left including one with a spade on the spine and another the title which I could not make out but was something like "The Devil in....." Linder was interviewed, as was John Peel, Johnny, Andy and the drummer bloke, but mostly the interview was with Mozzer.
I suppose you've all got this on DVD haven't you??
