For several days now, a program called "Pimpbot", probably written by Alan Angerbauer, has been spamming the chatroom constantly, every few seconds, 24 hours a day.

I have a few questions for you.

1. Are you ever going to do anything about this?

2. Will you or will you not take action against the person who's done it?

3. That person is Alan Angerbauer. He has already admitted, on this board, to having taught himself how to delete posts in the chatroom. Did that bother you at all?

4. It's beginning to seem to me that you only take action on this sort of thing when you personally have been insulted by the perpetrator. Your thoughts?

5. Could the fact that the perpetrator in this case has, along with his now wife, engaged in a pretty nauseating longterm ass-kissing campaign toward yourself--could that be influencing your refusal to act in this matter, at all? Hm?

Pimpbot finally gave it a rest just a few minutes ago, though. Either that or you evicted him.

So many people were shrieking that they were going to "email david" that I assumed at least one person had. I didn't e-mail you myself because you never replied when I complained, earlier, that Angerbauer was crashing the chat and censoring posts.

With regard to what I called “crashing the chat,” I did have some screen shots, but I’ve since gotten rid of them. Try to picture it this way: you’re in the chatroom, and suddenly one of your reds disappears. Then some messages in black disappear. You receive a red that was originally sent to you by a different sender, and the apparent interceptor has written “Psssst!” above it. The original sender checks, and confirms that they didn’t simply send the 1-1 to the wrong person. Either it was intercepted, or it was made to appear as if it had been. Multiple messages blend together. Messages change color. Eventually, total gibberish. Belligerent Ghoul was the first to notice that Alan was doing this, and could provide a better idea of the time frame than I could.

The reason for all of this? Alan’s long-distance girlfriend—with her posts about the greatness of Eddie Vedder, about kitty-cats, about masturbating with popsicles, about dessert foods—wasn’t being treated with the proper respect.

I’ve already addressed, in the first reply to the post I just linked to, Alan’s laughable claim that he was “hiding” posts rather than “deleting” them. But since he continues to cling to that pitiful life raft, I’ll point out that the (reputable) American Heritage Dictionary defines “delete” in this way: “delete v 1: remove or make invisible.” With regard to computers, to delete specifically means to permanently (you hope) hide. Totally removing information from a hard drive is a feat both technical and difficult, virtually irrelevant to the concept of deletion. No one has claimed that Alan was banishing their posts to another dimension.

With that argument now put down, I recommend finding it a plot in a good, reputable cemetery.

I believe Paul/Freeyourself’s user accounts were suspended last winter primarily because he was deleting other users’ posts on this board. (He deleted some of mine, in fact. I complained then, too.) Since then, Jennifer/realitybites/Bee Charmer has taken not only to imitating her bete noire, but, thanks to some gently solicited help, she has dramatically one-upped his misbehavior: Alan and Jennifer have consistently deleted long sections of the chat, or rendered the chatroom unusable, whenever they found the conversation unflattering. Incredibly, only a few hours after the last example (that I've witnessed) of Jennifer’s having done so, she made this board post:

Jennifer complains: “What is up with the bogus moderation going on lately?! Either some of the mods are stoned and unable to understand what they are reading or they are subjectively assigning/removing points, for no logical reason other than they may not like the person who wrote them. Now I see why people post anonymously on the Main Page. I could be a moderator as well since my Karma is excellent. But, I am too lazy to log in and out. Anyhow, I think that before one plays with the points, s/he should try to make sure s/he understands exactly what is being said. And s/he should try to be objective.”

If you can access a transcript of the chat from the night that post was made, David, and if the chat appears to you as it appeared the next morning, you’ll see two hours worth of chatroom posts missing immediately below the registered name “Bee Charmer.” The space immediately below her name will look a bit odd—I believe it contained a crooked half-line. Before and after the missing two hours, the chat will appeared as normally. The deletion was not the result of a room-wipe. Jennifer, “for no logical reason other than” that she disliked what had been written, took it upon herself to censor the chat.

I find it absolutely staggering that, having done this, she could then take to the board to complain about “bogus moderation”; to praise the quality of being “objective”; and to boast of “excellent karma”! The gall, the hypocrisy, the pure dishonesty-- Can we simply call a liar a liar? Should I mention her posts at morrisseymusic.com, which I’ve been shown, in which she registered extra names in order to anonymously accuse people of registering extra names; and in which she pretended to be “a moderator from another music site”? The reason that Jennifer began to be ridiculed in the chatroom is simply this: she is a congenital liar.

Jennifer has frequently tried to imply that she has special leverage with you, David. (Then there have been her bursts of shameless, outright flattery. I recall when, sounding like a born-again Christian, she exploded on this board that “the very soul of this site is THE MAN WHO CREATED IT.”) Alan did much the same in the chat last night, in his attempt at damage control after his robots had crippled the room for three straight days. He pulled those bots from the room, you may have noticed, minutes after I posted the FAO to you. (Not the bravest hacker behind the Help Desk, are you, Alan?)

Why did Alan again ruin the chatroom? Because he had lost the ability to control it, apparently. The security hole that allowed him to delete posts had been repaired, he told us. He would not answer the simple yes-or-no question of whether or not he had created the robot (that, to clarify again, had been spamming the chat every few seconds, 24 hours a day, for about three days). He again argued about the meaning of the word “delete.” He argued about the tense of certain verbs. He said: “I am accountable only to myself, and to David T.”

Will you hold him accountable, David?

From what I understand, Alan was scrolling off messages because people were posting private information such as work addresses. Seems to make sense to me. Did you take part or know who took part in this? I have seen similar messages posted on the board.

If David T. is monitoring this thread, he should know the chatroom was not disabled for three days. As a regular in the chatroom, I chatted there for a few hours two of the days the pimpbot person was there and I didn't notice a slow down much less any disabling of chat. Yes, the frequent posts were annoying, but once I put that person on ignore, all those messages disappeared and stayed that way until I left.
