Initially, Morrissey's label Sanctuary said the star had pulled out because of "the pressure of preparing his new album and losing his drummer earlier this month."
However, the singer himself then claimed that his label had acted without his knowledge and that he had never agreed to play the festival in the first place.
John Giddings of festival promoters Solo he's got signed statements to prove the singer had agreed to play, but that either way, he's never welcome at the festival again.
He told 6 Music: "I wouldn't even invite him round for a cup of tea. It's just truly sad that he can let people down like that without a care. Because if I called him up with two weeks to go and said 'I don't want you here' they would probably put me in a court of law, you know?"

I'd like to see the signed statements. Why don't they sue Morrissey then? It all seems very dodgy to me.

1. morrissey has no property in the UK with which they could enforce a judgment. it's why Mike has had a difficult time collecting his money.
2. they'd probably be in line behind Mike and whatever other creditors in collecting a judgment which means that they will be old and grey before they saw anything.
3. it would be hard to prove that he lost them money since the tickets are already sold out and non-refundable.

Signed statements, yes, but signed by whom? He doesn't say Moz signed, it may well have been a Sanctuary representative.

He still earns money in the UK though doesn't he?
Anyway, they don't have to sue him, just make these signed statements public. This just sounds deliberately vague to me. They say they are signed but not by who. Very easy. I don't believe the IOW ever had any direct contact with Morrissey.

True. I have signed statements saying that Morrissey is going to appear on my front lawn. Tickets are still available. If he cancels this I am sure he won't be over for tea anytime soon.

Does Morrissey even have a manager now? Who would sign on his behalf?
I believe Morrissey's version of this mess.

IOW just sold the tickets and signed a cheaper act to perform in place of Morrissey.
They profited twice.
