I noticed this DVD for sale in HMV (Manchester) the other day. It's an unauthorised film. Has anybody seen it? Is it any good?

I don't expect it to be any good, it looks like someones trying to cash in on the recent interest in Morrissey.

Please advise.

The only interesting things I picked up from it are:

Craig Gannon really dislikes Johnny Marr.

Tony Wilson really dislikes Morrissey.

Vinni Reilly is delusional or a bare faced liar.

Stephen Street has an ENORMOUS ego.

There, you don't need to watch it now!

also mark simpson really is a pretentious twat who thinks he's morrissey
vinni is a lying skeleton who lies about writing the whole of viva hate (bar suedehead) just so he can have his first meal in years

i thought the documentary was pretty good. just a brief few mins about the smiths then a good hour and a half on his solo career. Its pretty good for those of us who were too young to know morrissey in the early nineties. For example you hear from the bloke who wrote november spawned a monster. which i thought was interesting. the one thing that it lacks is morrisseys music. the music in the abckground is a diabolical. perhaps i only liked it cause i didn't have to pay for it.
if you have a high connection mate just download bit torrent from bittorrent.com then go to http://62.212.84.26/ and do a search for morrissey. the download should still be about

Was the story about people going round to Morrissey's flat the first time then returning and remarking on a sofa or a table being missing since they were last there and Morrissey saying "what table?" "what sofa?" and then going off to have a giggle about it.

I thought that was quite endearing if slightly mad.

I have "my life with Morrissey" DVD and I think except for the "extras" the rest is really bad. Comparingly with "my life with Morrissey" how do you rate the "Jewel in the crown" because I seriously want to buy it?

want to see the people you've read about talking about the Morrissey they have dealt with, you will appreciate this DVD. Morrissey's prickly personality as well as his off beat sense of humor comes out in what these people say. Sour grapes are served in abundance.

I am old enough have known all things Morrissey in them days, so am wary about these things. Mark Nevin is the guy I think you are talking about.

By the way, Vini Reilly did do a virtual rearrangement of Viva Hate. Morrissey was not too happy with Stephen Streets initial production.

Thanks for your comments.

The thing is, "My Life with Morrissey" and "The Jewel in the Crown" are two completely, totally different things.

"My Life with Morrissey" is fiction. It's a movie. It's meant to be entertaining.

"The Jewel in the Crown" is a documentary; mind you, it's a documentary without the actual subject giving an interview, but it IS a documentary -- with minimal amounts of fiction, ha ha, though there's bound to be some. It's also fairly interesting to see how Stephen Street, Vini Reilly, and the owner of Factory Records look. (It was funny to see how presumptious the owner of factory records was! He purposely kept calling Morrissey "Steven" and Johnny Marr "John." Hilarious.)

By the way, I thought "My Life with Morrissey" was hilarious. It's not meant to be taken seriously. It's also not something you can watch more than once, really. (Unless you do as I do and just watch the parts with your favorite writers from "Spongebob Squarepants" -- the movie was filmed almost entirely at Nickelodeon Studios by "Spongebob" staffers.) It does get a bit TOO bizarre at the end, but it's meant to be over-the-top, dark comedy, which it does accomplish.
