Don't you just hate CD singles which are released in 2 parts, I've just spent about £20 catching up on the latest Joe Strummer and Goldfrapp releases, as a bit of a mad completist I don't really have a choice, but what a rip off. I hope the new Morrissey singles are not going to come out as 2 seperate CDs. The Joe Strummer one for example, just features 2 different live versions, could they not have had these on one CD.
And they wonder why the CD single is suffering so much, if they want to revive it, they need to cut this out, and also included more videos on them.
OK rant done.

No you're right Radar it is a rip off and you have every right to be annoyed. It IS,of course, aimed at fans and completists like us who they know will buy both CD's even though there is often very little difference between the two.
Ripping off fans of course is no new phenomenon and the 80's were awash with "extended" 12" versions which often featured an "extra" track which was merely an instrumental versions of the main track.
CD single is easily the format of music I own the least of.It's tacky, lightweight and disposable(and that's just the music....usually:)
I will get the Moz single on CD but I really hope he releases it on 12" as well.
Some of the more recent Moz 12" were on top quality 150 vinyl.
I woud be very surprised if he release a 2 part CD single

There has never been a Morrissey single released as a 2 part CD, so I can't see it happening really, but it has been a trend with a lot of my favourite artists.
I think The Cure must hold the record for most releases of the same single, don't know which one it was, but in the early 90s they had 10 different releases of the same single.

as happened with "Boy Racer". Probably just RCA/ BMG just playing marketing games.

I didn't know that came in 2 parts, mine has Boy Racer plus 4 live tracks.

RCA released two "Boy Racer" singles.
There were also two "This Charming Man" and two "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" CD-singles (not the original singles, but ones they put out in the 1990s). With the "There Is A Light" one, they actually gave you a CD case that holds two CDs with one of them, but you had to buy the other one separately. Psh.
I happen to like the live tracks on 'The Boy Racer," but fucking ay, I think it cost me $20.00 for four tracks.

Good thing you only had to wait TEN YEARS for the b-sides to all be compiled on a neat boxed set. See...it's kinda hard not to give in and be exploited if you really love the artist. = (
Yeah, there's only a few with whom I'll let myself be such a slave for. Actually, I think at this point it would only be Morrissey for whom I'd buy a two-parter.
I remain kinda bummed that I was only ever able to find one part of the two-part Kirsty MacColl CD-single "Caroline." I really liked the b-sides on the one I got ("The Butcher Boy"...a Boz Boorer produced song, "My Irish Cousin"...), so I can't help but feeling I need the other one. = ( But at least they didn't give me a case that holds two CDs like with the Smiths one so that I'd forever have an empty tray.

Funny you should mention the Kirsty MacColl 'Caroline' singles, as I had a spare copy of the one you are after but I recently let someone else have it. It also features a cover of 'El Paso' and a remix of 'My Affair'. I always think that 'Irish Cousin' should have featured on 'Titanic Days' ahead of either 'Angel' or 'Big boy on a saturday night', but then you have to have your b side gems as well.

Oh yes, I didn't know that it came with 4 live tracks. Having a gander at http://passionsjustlikemine.com/ I see that you appear to have the "EEC" version, while I have the same tracks on 2 discs.

Thinking back now I didn't buy it initally as I wasn't keen on it, I eventually got hold of it through some mail order retailer in about '98, I like the live tracks, but 'Boy Racer' is lyrically dull, it's failed to grow on me.

So are you saying I got the better one? = )
I love "Angel"!
I'm working at an office these days and everyone is older than me and are into people like Bette Midler and stuff, but I've made a few of them big fans of "Tropical Brainstorm." I'm telling you, that album could've been #1 if anyone had cared to play some of it on the radio.

Oh, btw, I think Kirsty did that version of "The Butcher Boy" originally for the audio book version of the novel by that name, by Irish writer Patrick MacCabe (the novel is named after, and uses, the song). It's one of my favorite novels, and I noticed on Amazon once that Kirsty's version was on the audio book. (Sinead O'Connor did it for the movie adaptation.)

My favourite of this era was "Nobody Loves Us". I'd be a happy chappy if Morrissey put a B-side of that quality on his next single.
ps my favourite jam is blackcurrant

I know the record companies are in control of this shit, but I find it astonishing that artists don't try and stand up for their fans more.
Aren't they ashamed of this practice?
People have said in the past that it's done to boost UK chart positions. What I don't get about that is, if everyone is releasing two-part singles, why would that make a huge difference on the charts? And if it does make a difference, why don't the chart-makers adjust the figures accordingly? Or, if you can get away with such manipulations of the charts, couldn't a label who wants to see an artist hit #1 just release ten versions of a single at 50 cents each?

What do people think of "You Must Please Remember"? That seems like the least talked about Morrissey song, yet it's a pretty good one.

I think you're right. I think it is probably THE most ignored Moz song. It's not a classic but I really like it.Especially the backing harmonies.

I must get round to reading that book one day, I've heard it is very sad and will no doubt bring me to tears.
Kirsty didn't exactly record her version of 'The Butcher Boy for the audio version of the book, but it was handy that it was around about the same time for it to be used.
Yes the CD which you have, which is the first of the 2 part set, is the better, but her version of Marty Robbins 'El Paso' is quite something, not too different from the original, but a superb vocal performance. She did some wonderful cover versions.
Agree with you on Tropical Brainstorm, but the real tragedy is that ZTT had the nerve to drop her after Titanic Days, so what if it hardly shifted any numbers, it just shows how little they priotise musical integrity. Kirsty put everything into that album, at a diffcult time in her life, and it's just such an emotional piece of work. They did no promotion for it at all, but at the same time the Kirsty camp should have released Soho Square as a single - oh well.
