LoafingOaf - The Killer Inside Me

A bit down the screen there's a thread about the message board format here.

I was just curious if there is significant interest in having an ezboard style message board. I can live with this message board, so it's not that big a deal, but I do think the format here is f***ed up. Is that feeling is shared by many?

There'd have to be a dozen or so people who would like such a board, plus somebody of good character and not on a power-trip who'd wanna be the administrator and who would share David's admirable views on freedom of speech. It would be best if it could be linked from the front page of this site to ensure traffic. But hey, it's not my site, so that's not up to me.

If there's interest, we could create a board and see if people like it and would favor it over this one and the marketplace one.

I think a Morrissey site deserves a little better than this board. Some people here have lots of interesting things to say and it's sad that their shit gets scrolled off the board within a few hours of some mentally ill person having a huge conversation with himself. I've nothing whosoever against all the anarchy or the craziness here. That should be allowed and preserved. But I think an ezboard/snitz format would be able to please everyone much better, because it allows topics to stay alive for a long time, encourages people to stick with one screenname, and allows the creation of many sub-forums. If someone has a good idea for a sub-forum, they could establish it, name it, moderate it, and have their own little nook on the Internet within the larger Morrissey site to call their own and share with the rest of us. Or, perhaps a standard grouping of sub-forums (General, Tour, Marketplace, Movies, Politics, Naked Pics...) which would be a lot better organized than what we have here.

Or...maybe most people like that the site has a different sort of message board, and it should be left alone. If so, fine. But I really do think we could do much better, and that - to me amyway - we are due for a change and, given how great this site is in general, it should also have the best message board of any artist-related site in the world.

Well, anyway, I'm sure this won't go anywhere, but just thought I throw it out there......

Yes I agree, While this is a very interesting board, I feel it may be a tad dis-jointed. If you need any help. Just let me know

Well, I can't say I'm familiar with alternative message board formats so I don't know of any to compare this one to.

All I can say is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Personally,I think it's fine as it is.

As the one who started the original thread, an example of the kind of thing I was thinking about can be seen at www.petshopboys-forum.com

With the many visitors here, there's a great basis for a good discussion board.

no no no, if it ain't broke, you break it, that's what you do.

I don't really use this board, so maybe I shouldn't have a say. But the reason I don't use it is related to all the criticisms you make. I just can't be bothered to scroll through all the junk to find the interesting posts. And when there IS an interesting discussion it's a pain to have to click on every message individually. If you had a better board, I'm sure you'd get even more people contributing, including me.

I agree. Discussing in this board is virtually impossible. I also don't feel like adding more than two or three dull words to the only few threads I find slightly interesting.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, CREATE YOUR OWN MORRISSEY BOARD!!!!!!

UNGRATEFUL TWATS!

Re: Just a better class of visitors!

There seems to be an increasing number of those in need of their meds lately.

Uhh...that's what I was proposing. That if enough people wanted a new one, we should just do it. If people are okay with this one that's fine too. Just wanted to see if people were happy.

Yeah, that Pet SHop Boy one looks good.

Here are a couple other examples:

http://forum.frankblack.net/

http://www.inhalerproductions.com/forum/

I think we could improve on all those and make it cooler. But that's a good basic format.

It's not looking to me like there's enough people who want change, though.

If there are more people who want a new and improved board, make yourselves known. If not, hey, this thread will be scrolled off the board by tomorrow. I'm really not trying to push it on anyone. I just agree with Johan and wanna put my vote on record, I think he has a good idea.....

OK, there's two more people.

I don't know how to do any graphics are any sort of stuff like that.

I'm trying to tread lightly here, since it's somebody else's site. And, so far it's not looking like many people want change. But, is there somebody who knows how to design a message board and who could make it look good and fit in nicely with the rest of the site?

If there are enough people into that, and it wouldn't upset too many people...I guess the way to do it would be to make a board that's nice enough so the powers that be on this site would want it to be their message board.

I thought about installing some Morrissey/Smiths forums on my domain but I don't know if enough people would really be all that interested.

I don't post here often - partly because of the way the board is set out and also because of having to scroll past annoying posts to get to Morrissey-related threads.

david tried to change it a few years ago, but people went insane and jumped ship without even trying it. that's why we have this format.

it's not really that hard to use if you think about it. you can change the settings so that it has multiple windows so you can see the topics and read a message at the same time.

i personally don't use it because i like seeing the entire message and i'm also a creature of habit.

Well, I guess there isn't a big outcry for a new forum, so I'll let it be.
