Hiya Moz fans
I fancied a cultured afternoon, so I thought I would take a stroll around the Art Gallery in Manchester (on Mosley Street)
There was the usual paintings and stuff, but my wandering eye caught a glimpse of a monitor, secluded up the corner in the CIS Manchester gallery. The film on display was called 'Unlovable'. Well, I simply had to read the blurb on the plaque...
'Unlovable' is a short film from 1999, made by Domestic Films (of Liverpool, I think) and is about an American girl who is in Manchester to savour the places Morrissey wrote about.
She befriends a Moz-lookalike who duely takes her to various iconic locations such as Salford Lads Club and The Holy Name Church.
Now, just like Moz himself, this film contains dark humour and isn't as sweet as it may first appear, so if you're in the area, pop in and have a gander at the film. My favourite line was:
Over-excited American: OH MY GOD, you are soooooo, like, lucky living here
Disillusioned Manc Moz-look-a-like: Yeah, everyday, I pinch myself
There is also a cameo by Mike Joyce, and interestingly enough, the Moz look-a-like is played by a guy called John Donnelly, but before you fans of our Johnny makes the pilgrimage to Manchester to catch a glimpse of our hero, let me tell you it is not the same J.D. as we have to endure on this discussion board.
This little gem aside, it's well worth going to learn about Manchester during the Industrial revolution and to look at paintings when the inner city areas were simply picturesque glens.
