This one was a hoax, no matter how the Sunday Mercury tried to spin it. They (and others) got suckered by a 5 December 2000 article from the Weekly World News (a supermarket tabloid), which was almost word-for-word identical with the version they printed.

yeah.. I realised after being amused myself.. Apparrently one of those great urban myths that get circulated every so often. Like the Neil Armstrong story (my memory is bad today) that said 'good luck Mr.Kowolski' which was dead funny as well.
Thanks for clearing that up inspector WeiB.. now get your butt down the 13th precinct before the district DA has your ass in chains.
