One of Britain's most influential and unique songwriters is set to be honoured at Warwick Arts Centre in April.

Morrissey, famous for being the lead singer in popular 1980s band The Smiths, will be celebrated by one of Mexico's finest musical outfits, Mexrissey, at Warwick Arts Centre on April 30.

The Pope of Mope has been a prophet with honour in Mexico for some time, with his lovelorn songs and powerful vocal finding a huge audience in the Americas and beyond.

The ex-Smiths vocalist famously moved to North America before releasing his long-awaited Autobiography in 2013.

Now, a band made in Mexico City are repaying the Manchester-born singer for all his great moments by recreating Morrissey's songs south of the border. Together, they sound like a brass and accordion led combo from a small village with a big heart.

The band comprises of Camilo Lara, the force inside Mexican Institute of Sound, who together with Sergio Mendoza (Orkesta Mendoza/Calexico), has put together a team of musical gunslingers from Mexico’s finest bands.

Mexrissey will perform on April 30 at Warwick Arts Centre, with tickets costing £16, or £14.50 for University of Warwick students .

The show will be part of Year of Mexico in the UK 2015 and will be produced by La Linea – The London Latin Music Festival in association with the Barbican and Music Beyond Mainstream.
