According to the 120 minutes homepage, which you can get to by clicking on shows on www.mtv.com, they list morrissey on the list of artists whose "debut" videos they are going to show this sunday 2-7 at midnight. From a previous post (see everyday is like sunday) this video will be everyday is like sunday. I can't imagine that this would be the debut for that video though. It is a great video. Although about 2 hours ago I planned to boycott MTV forever, I'm curious and I will watch 120 minutes this sunday (that is their one respectable show anyway).

How wonderful! Unfortunately I have neither cable nor a television. Please describe it in words so that at least I can picture it in my mind.
Thanks,
Wendy

Hi Wendy,
Personally I don't think it's anything to write home about.Morrissey is only in it very briefly. Mostly you see Lucette Anderson walking around then writing a postcard (she writes how I dearly wish I was not here) I think there is a meat is murder theme shown also. There are also a couple little skits with Billie Whitelaw and others in them. Morrissey is seen once very briefly (maybe twice I haven't watched this promo in eons) Lucette looks out of a telescope and sees him.

I remember way the hell back in the day, maybe eight or nine years ago, seeing the videos for "Everyday is Like Sunday" and "Interesting Drug" on Post Modern MTV. I used to like that show. 120 Minutes was on then, too. That was when Dave Kendall was the host, and they used to have interesting stuff on. Ah, the old days...I weep for the children of America. Anyone pathetic enough to stand on a street corner in the cold in front of MTV's studios to champion "Pretty Fly For a White Guy" or the Backstreet Boys is obviously a pallbearer for our rapidly expiring culture. I'm buying some lederhosen and getting the hell out before America falls like Rome. Can you hear the death rattle? It's coming, it's coming! While all the creeps are out there partying like it's 1999, the millenium will come, and the only hope for people with taste will be opera.
As a sidenote, Freddy Prinze, Jr. is pretty cute. I'm never going to go see that movie he's in; the premise is too ridiculous. Am I wrong to assume that he's the son of the late comedian Freddy Prinze who killed himself? Does anyone know? It may seem a stupid question, but after this afternoon's debacle, I shall never make an assumption again. :(

Wendy, don't listen to her, that is not the video you are asking about.
The particular video you are referring to, the one with "Day" in the title, was shot in Milwuakee during the winter months.
It begins with Morrissey sitting alone in a barber shop waiting to get a haircut. When the propoer help does not arrive, he takes it upon himself to relieve the cash register of all its contents, and makes his way out of the salon, down a back alley.
This particular scene is rather funny, because it looks as if The Mozzer is being chased by imaginary school children.
You know, kind of a sissy Southern Bell type trot.
Anyway, after running out of gas, he then makes his way into a strip club to get a drink of water. He spends a moment observing the happenings of his temporary hideout, but seems to feel particularly uninspired by it's images.
Then, after leaving the strip club via a backdoor, he suddenly spots an elderly woman placeing groceries into her mini-van.
Seeing his oppurtunity, he rushes the poor woman and clubs her in the head with a box of "Cocoa Puffs" she was attempting to load into her vehicle.(You know, because the Mozzer likes Cocoa Puffs.)
Now, this is where the video begins to lose me. He then uses the car to make his way to the airport, and boards a fligh back to England, where he searches desperately through the phone book for a "mystery person."
After catching a cab, he is brought to a house where he quickly makes his way to the door.
As the door opens there appears who else but Johnny Marr standing stoicly in shock, as Morrissey throws himself into his arm's. He is then seen pleading desperately for him to save him from making any more stupid videos involving trite themes, and also-ran stage actresses.
The camera cuts away at this point, and the video fades into prophetic blackness.
A rather disjointed production, but nevertheless fun to watch.

Wendy,
Mr So and So is, like I said earlier, a drunk. The video he is talking about below is actually the video for the one with "Playboys" in the title. It's not the one I spoke of earlier - the one with "Day" in the title. "Playboys" is actually much better than "Day".
The last point is this part he has completely wrong:¿ Seeing his oppurtunity, he rushes the poor woman and clubs her¿ in the head with a box of "Cocoa Puffs" she was¿ attempting to load into her vehicle.(You know, because the¿ Mozzer likes Cocoa Puffs.)
They weren't Cocoa Puffs they were Fruit Loops. A little known secret about Mr. So is his affinity for Cocoa Puffs and while we're on the subject Fruity Pebbles are another favorite of his and oh also he loves Ovaltine. I can't remember the specific type of Ovaltine though. I do remember the time I kindly picked it up for him and I brought back the wrong "flavor" and he had a little pissy fit over it.¿ Wendy, don't listen to her, that is not the video you are asking¿ about.¿ The particular video you are referring to, the one with¿ "Day" in the title, was shot in Milwuakee during the¿ winter months.¿ It begins with Morrissey sitting alone in a barber shop waiting¿ to get a haircut. after spending my day off voting for the moz only to be disappointed i rattled off a rather scathing email to mtv warning them that the loyal morrissey fan will not be ignored...but will only grow in number and votes...

This would probably be lost on MTV. Most of the programmers have no idea who Morrissey (or the Smiths) is, much less any of his lyrics. Sad, isn't it?

Yup, that's his son all right. My mom told me a brief yet tragic story of Freddy Prinze Sr. when i rented I Know What You Did Last Summer. He was a popular Hispanic comedian in the late 60s to early 70s. I believe my mom said his suicide had a lot to do with his drug abuse???? I'm not quite sure.
Yes, American culture is going to hell in a haybasket. For anyone who saw Total Request live yesterday, that was a sufficient example.
Cool MTV died along with the 80s. Do you remember Kevin Seal? I liked him. He was pretty cool.
