Any fans of this book?
According to Wikipedia they are attempting to have it made into a film with James Bobin (director flight of the conchords) at the helm- but I'm mostly interested in who would play Ignatious.
I have two in mind- Judah Friedlander (of 30 rock fame) and Zach Galifinakis (who has revealed in an interview that Ignatious is his most desired film role).

Judah is perhaps my preferred for the role- he plays a splendid Ignatious-esque character in 30 rock and also his small role in American Splendor was fine work

I'd have said Benedict Cumberbatch, prior to seeing "Sherlock", but now I can't see it. Judah Friedlander would be good, yes. I don't necessarily see Ignatius Reilly as a slob, though. A younger Crispin Glover, for example, would have been very good. As a dark horse, I've always liked Patrick Fischler ("Mulholland Drive", Jimmy Barrett of "Mad Men"). Not as true to the book, but it's the character I see when I think of him.
Oh my god, it's Robby!

loved the book ever since first reading it many years ago and got to know the statue in New Orleans really well on an acid trip almost 20 years ago
as for a film of it?
while part of me shudders at the thought, I would love to see Philip Seymour Hoffman in the role
ever since seeing him as Capote I have thought this
I know he seems a bit old for the part, but with make up and hair dye I think he could still pull it off :thumb:

interesting choices- you have chosen skinnier actors than i was imagining. To be honest i've always pictured an overweight, slobbish and unkempt character but he needs to have the delivery of say Richard E Grant in Withnail and I. He needs to come across intelligent and articulate but also be physically unappealing in appearance (or mildy so).
Maybe what is needed is a fat Richard E Grant haha

yeah i guess there is always the danger with film adaptions of much loved books that they will completely miss the mark. I think a young Phillip Seymour Hoffman would probably have been perfect.
In a ideal world it would be an overweight Withnail-esque character...

I read the book about two or three years ago after reading about it for a few years previous. To be sincere , I didn't think much of it at all and I certainly don't understand how it attained cult-like status. That's not true - I suspect it has a great deal to do with the author's suicide and the tale of his mother shopping it about endlessly for takers .
I was waiting for the book to begin ... and it never did. I still don't see the appeal/interest of the main character ; his ostensibly "endearing-because-it-so-isn't" fuckedup-edness reminded me of Gilligan - you know, initially amusing , then irritating ,then just boring.
Sorry, grandma death ( what an odd phrase that is to say !) , I gather it's not much fun seeing someone vomit disdain over a favoured book/song/film, etc.
I mean this question quite sincerely - why were/are you so fond of this particular book ?
