View Full Version : My Morrissey Tattoo

I just had my very first tattoo done. It reads "Will never Marry" "Will never" is on my left wrist and "marry" on the right. I will post a pic in a few days when the swelling has gone done. I LOVE how it turned out!!!
My soon to be ex husband moved out a few weeks ago. He said he can not handle me being ill, and since I might never get better, he would like to be selfish and have "me time". We are in process of an ugly divorce. He never wanted me to get a tattoo, so I never did. I have always loved "Will Never Marry" and I thought it was fitting for this situation. What made it even better is that his second cousin was the one to do the tattoo for me. Every time I start to worry about the future or get upset with the crap that the ex throws at me I can look down and smile.... Thanks Morrissey for creating music that helps me get thru the day...

I can't figure out how to take a pic of it so it does not come out backwards. I will have my daughter take a pic and post it again later.

Firstly, I'd like to offer my condolences on your illness. Genuinely.
But also, I mean..I don't really get the tattoo thing. Not just regarding yours personally, but at all, in general. But anyway, don't you feel like your motives are a little flawed here? Doesn't it cross your mind that he will see this as an obvious slap in the face by the scorned ex-wife, rather than a genuine permanent declaration of your devotion to an artist's work? Doing something this permanent out of anger and spite, even to the point of getting it done by his relative, seems a bit childish.
If he truly left you for the reason you say he did (which is possible, but I suspect there's probably more to the story), then I can understand your anger and hurt feelings. But is this really going to make you feel better?
Plus, I mean, your tat says, "Will Never Marry"...but you already did marry. So, you know...kind of silly. Now, if it said "Will Never Marry Again", well, then I could see...
Anyhow, it seems ill-thought-out. I'm not criticizing you, and to each his/her own, I'd just like to hear your thoughts on that, is all.

Hilarious...

I'm not criticizing her. I respect her right to do things I may not do, and I acknowledge that she may have reasons for doing them which I cannot relate to.
I was simply offering my opinion on something that was proffered here for public consumption and rebuttal.

You are right Lark there is more to the story. I left out that when I was out of town seeing one of my many specialists, he froze our assets, moved almost all of the furniture out of the house, left our children with my brother (with no money), and took off to a resort. He told my brother that he was going to work and never came back. I also left out, that he is trying to pull my insurance, I had to fight to get any money for the children to eat.
It is not my problem how he sees my tattoo, honestly I doubt he would notice, since I have only seen him once since this whole thing happened. I have no control over what another does, thinks, or acts. I do have control over what I do. That being said. I did this for me, and for me alone.
If you think it is silly, then you are entitled to your opinion. I can't change that or control it.

Couldn't you have just got your nails done or slept with a high school student? I mean, anything but a tacky tattoo would have sufficed...

If the guy is as much of a douchebag as you say he is, then it's a no-brainer why you'd want to make a clean break. And I don't think that tattoos are silly, per se. I was just questioning your true motives. But OK.

You have a tattoo saying "Will Never Marry", but you have already been married?
You should've got a "Glamorous Glue" one, in honour of the glue you must have been sniffing when you thought that tattoo was a good idea.

Well, being that she is herself a stranger, and is proclaiming her tattoo/personal drama in public to strangers, I'd say she should deserves what she gets. Not that I think she should be ridiculed; but I'm just saying.
Most of these people who responded to her post were consolatory and supportive. My question could hardly be construed as stupid, unless one is very touchy and lacking even a modicum of self-confidence...which is almost always the case with tattooey people.
But the implication in your statement, of course, is that if one dares offer anything other than automatic effusive praise when someone proclaims they're getting ink, then it's just absolute closed-mindedness and cruelty...because, you know, how could anyone possibly not think tattooing is super-awesome. Right?

I think a common misconception about people with tattoos is that we get them for the attention. I know that this probably is true in some extreme cases, but mostly I think that people get tattooed for themselves and their own personal reasons. Do you put on your shirt in the morning hoping that someone will comment on it? Tattoos are personal and should be taken at face value. Yes, I have someone's face on my arm and who it might be is none of your fucking business, purely for the reason that I did not get it for you. Get it?

I don't find anything wrong with your comments in this thread. She put this thread on solo for the purpose of discussion, I imagine. Having a discussion about your tattoos on the internet and having to explain them to gawking strangers are two completely different things. I don't blame people for their curiosity, but it gets annoying after the first hundred or so times.

I get what you're saying and your arguments are well stated, but remember, a tattoo -like a T-shirt or a bumper sticker, except in a much more permanent, personal way- are decidedly external emblazonings of the symbols of your feelings, experiences, tastes, aspects of your personal life, etc. That they are external and and are, in fact, sometimes much easier for other people to see than for you to see yourself, (except maybe in the mirror) begs a dependency on the recognition by others -oftentimes strangers- of those symbols.
I have no doubt that many people get tattoos for very significant, personal reasons and that many people with tattoos find generic flash art insulting and disgusting. I am in no way contesting the notion of unique, personal relevance in many people's tattoos. All I'm saying is that it is a little hard to buy the "well it's my tattoo so fuck off and mind your own business" aspect when, as just stated, the basic foundational definition of a tattoo is that it is an image (to be seen) and that although personal in nature, it is external (on the outside of the person)...
My girlfriend has a huge blue panther, or a puma or some shit, tattooed across the side of her scalp. She got it when she was 18 and it means something to her (I guess) and it used to be very visible because she shaved her head a lot. Even though she is old now (early 30s, which is old for a girl), whenever she shaves her head for a cancer benefit, there it is again...a big-ass blue cat, right on her head. She has never implied regret for getting it done (she has many others as well) but she always expresses annoyance whenever some moron accosts her and is like, "dayam, didn't that HURT?..."
She is always polite and patient when she answers them "yes," but then when she bitches to me personally about it, my answer is always the same:
"Well, you did get a fucking blue cat tattooed on your fucking head. Deal with it."

Golden Girls is so gross; I never understood the appeal of that show or how it was supposedly funny. You had a dried-up old slut (read "frisky"), a moron (read "fun-loving"), a dyke (read "strong"), and a bitter (read "sassy") old bitch.
Yeah...I'll tune right in for that one.
Elderly women are horrifying in every way. The show was a hit with women for whom the concept of living past 50 at all was, in itself, considered some kind of miraculous achievement or victory. Typical broads...patting themselves on the back just for being alive. I'd like to see them change a tire!
But to each his own, I guess.
