Agree with 2-J, Maudlin Street was perfect as it was. Ordinary Boys was one of my favourites on Viva - One of those songs that took a while for me to 'get' and then love. Interested to hear the re-mastering though - In Steven Streets good hands, It's bound be an upgrade.

I think I prefer my version of Viva Hate. It has the long version of Maudlin Street and Ordinary Boys in place of the Treat me like a human being demo.

I do agree that it's disappointing that Ordinary Boys is gone and Maudlin Street has been edited, but as Kate Bush said when she released her Director's Cut album: it's not as though the original Viva Hate will disappear as soon as the remastered version is played. We've just got alternatives. Life isn't so bad. Actually Kate bush didn't say those exact words, but you get my point....

Are you sure about this? Usually when record companies re-release a remastered version of the album, it becomes the standard. The old, alleged "inferior" CDs quickly go out of print.

There are a ton of copies of Viva hate (the first pressing) floating around so we'll all be able to have a copy and then some... I have to agree that is seems sacrilegious to me to alter this album in any way other than 'cleaning' and 'enhancing' previous masters... BUT it's not my album its Morrissey's ... and he can be (and usually is) as insane as he wishes to be

but it's not Morrissey's album. he only supplied the lyrics and the singing. he provided no more to this album than he did to The Queen Is Dead or Strangeways.
it's an absolute nonsens that he's allowed to mess with the music, when he's clearly so utterly musically-clueless himself.

This release sounds like a mess: Why change the cover/title font? Why delete - edit - and tack on an extra track? How hard would it have been to leave ALL the songs as is and then add the extra versions on the end?

this is disgusting.. dropping a song off a classic album and re-editing another classic. he should re-edit years of refusal or ringleaders of the tormentors- and take off the really embarrassingly bad tracks and make two ok eps. these are the songs he should be embarrassed by.

rem said in one of their closing interviews that the songs once written no longer belong to them - but to the world.

they existed with dignity and respect.

That's pretty embarrassing, that's it's literally come to this.

Also, I'm tired of hearing "Treat Me As a Human Being" labeled as an "unreleased" or "rare" track.

This song was officially released on last year's pointless "Glamorous Glue" CD single, which is easily available for about two pounds in any record shop or online retailer. There is nothing rare or unreleased about it.
