3 men go for a meal, bill is 30 pounds
men pay 10 pounds each simple
waiteress returns says bill was wrong and should have been 25 pounds-
she says i have 5 pound coins what should i do with them?
men say-give us 1 pound back each and you keep the other 2 as a tip
thus the meal has now cost the men 9 pounds each
but 3 lots of 9 are 27 and the 2 she has kept only adds up to 29
so where has the other one gone??

clever dicks- let others have a go first

Subtract her 2 pound tip from 27, which equals the 25 pound bill.

erm no

The meal cost them 9.33 each, not 9.

wow, all I read was what a small percentage was left for a tip
I guess that really explains the terrible service one can expect outside of the USA :lbf:

if u pay with 10 pound coins then get one back has it not cost you 9?

Erm yes. Each man paid 10 - 1 pounds = 27, and the corrected bill is 25, so she keeps 2 of their 27 as a tip, as well as the 2 remaining pound coins from her original 5. So she winds up with 4 pound coins, although only 2 of them are the tip.

erm double no ?????????????

25 : 3 = 8.33

So each of them should have got
10 - 8.33 = 1.67 back. But they only got 1 back, the rest 1.67 - 1 = 0.67 was tip. Each.

Altogether they gave 3 x 0.67 -> 2 tip

Yeah us Brits are stingy with the dosh, I very rarely tip. No-one gives me a tip for doing my job so why should I tip them for doing theirs?!!

I did tip when I went to New York though because they were in my face...all angry...and saying "tip.....tip.....tip" and I was like "er.......sure".

yip - took longer than it should have to work that out.
£10 each x3 to pay £30 bill
to pay £25 bill each pay £9 to give a total of £27 (£25 bill + £2 tip) ... and they still have £1 each left to take total to £30
