First person to quote 'Paint a Vulgar picture' gets stabbed in the eye with one of my many tacky badges. :ha-no:
That being said, Enough with the best ofs... Enough.
I mean, is it something that the new label is requiring, or what?
It boggles the mind.

Could easily have done without the extended Moonriver.
This is definitely a strange selection, one certainly does get the feeling this was compiled "with Morrissey's full co-operation".

If only his minions looked at this website and reported back to him what his fans would like him to release. He could then make a more informed judgement call, imho.
Having said that, the bonus dvd sold it for me, you can't get enough good quality(hopefully) visual of Morrissey.

Apparently random song selection - nothing from Vauxhall & I - his best album in many people's books, and yet Ouija Board, Ouija Board and Interesting Drug, two of the worst from the early years.
I know it's just EMI stuff but then it shouldn't be called 'The Very Best Of'.
If you're new to Morrissey how would you know which is the Best Of, Greatest Hits, etc? I think you'd come away thinking he could do better.
I agree with the person who said let the fans choose a real Best Of. That way there would never be one released as we'd all be arguing for years.

Suedehead - The Best Of Morrissey (1995)
¡The Best Of! (2001)
Greatest Hits (2008)
The Very Best Of (2011)
Only '¡The Best Of!' was worthy of the name, covering all the major bases and a few fan favourites (the problem with it now, is, of course, that it doesn't cover anything from Quarry onwards). The rest have been inadequate to greater or lesser extents. This latest one is just a joke, a curio, the tracklisting bordering on the bizarre... the sound of a barrel being scraped is loud and clear.

I too had never even heard of "Treat Me Like A Human Being". Perhaps it previously went under an alternate (known) title, and Morrissey's just decided to give it a new name. It's supposedly from the 'Viva Hate' era. I don't recall any reference to it in that 1987 production notebook that Stephen Street scanned online a couple of years ago.
A 'poster bag' is just a folded up poster slipped inside the wide-spine LP next to the discs, just like the poster that came with 'Bona Drag' (Redux) last year.

It is in that workbook - see here - http://i55.tinypic.com/2dtby9c.jpg. Seems to my untrained eye that the only song from that workbook (http://www.stephenstreet.net/vivahate.html) not to emerge is I Don't Want Us To Finish.
As for Safe Warm Lancashire Home, I recall an interview with Andrew Paresi where he said he laid down some tasty drum tracks, but when Morrissey heard it, he said that it wasn't right, and if I recall, that it felt like "...an Arran sweater". I thought for that reason it had not been finished. Hey ho.

What happened to this stand? He must be getting his royalties now.
From http://true-to-you.net/morrissey_news_090808_01
Morrissey would like it to be known that he has not been consulted by EMI/HMV/Parlophone with regards to two forthcoming boxed sets of Morrissey singles. Morrissey does not approve such releases and would ask people not to bother buying them. Morrissey receives no royalty payments from EMI for any back catalogue, and has not received a royalty from EMI since 1992. Morrissey also does not approve of, and was not consulted on, the Rhino box of Smiths CDs, or the Warner releases of Smiths LPs on 180 gramme vinyl. Morrissey last received a royalty payment from Warners ten years ago, and, once again, he would ask people not to bother buying the reissued LPs or CDs.

what is this suposed ' new' deal with EMI, it must be UK, EMI USA is taken
over by citybank
They gave him a own lablen inside EMI,Minor Major, and dioesn't recieve royalties
since 1992
Courtcase was after his EMI contract, so Joyce coun't not be the reason
odd
or all this new signing was just a scam, done by EMI, nah, that would be fraude
I'n speechless, why Morrissey didn't get payed Beethove and Vauxhall&I [Parlophone, europe, well my dutch bought]

There is a version of the Interlude Morrissey Solo version circulating. He sings the whole song, meaning both Siouxsie and his own sections of the song. Its pretty sweet...it surfaced together with a bunch of "Vauxhall and I" demos I think.

If Moz doesn't release some new material soon his "best ofs' are going to take over his actual albums at this rate. At least if you're going to release stuff we already own could you not try and think of a more imaginative title that 'the very best of'? I hope those 2 unheard tracks are better quality than the last 2 awful tracks we heard aka lifeguard and happy lovers. Jesus the word unheard exists for a reason.

lots of songs had other names, didn;t worked out, a few years later it get picket up
and get's an another name and released, as Morrissey is famous for being a controlfreak, in his carreer he more than once stopped a release to change things
so , if you care Morrissey, change it a bit, and some live video would be nice

It's much easier to just stop complaining and hand over your money.
There are obviously people who will have everything. There are people who are so cheap they will denounce everything. EVERY ARTIST on the planet is interested in making money. And it's how they make a living, so why not? Not every release is designed for the fan who already owns everything.
I own everything and I will buy this too so I will continue to own everything. I love how people whine about not wanting to buy something when they already own all the songs, but then announce what the songs should be!
It's the same exact TEDIOUS story over and over from fans! "Best of Most of... blah blah Tacky Badge"... Idiots, "Paint a Vulgar Picture" isn't even about re-releasing his own material! How can you call yourself a fan if you don't even know what this song is about???
Buying things is a choice. You don't have to buy it. He doesn't need us to do his PR. There really isn't a single release he could put out that you guys wouldn't whine about unless it were this:
"A Box Set with Everything He's Ever Recorded. Unheard B-sides, all tracks in all versions, everything you could ever imagine. And instead of a cost being associated with it, we'll send it along to your home with rush delivery free of charge. This is Morrissey's thank you for being a fan and for wearing his hair like he wore it in 1987. Cheers."

Morrissey's next single rerelease (e.g. Billy Budd) should contain one previously unreleased track spread across three formats. Say it's a 4 min song - The first 1 min 30 could be on the ECD, then the next 1 min 30 could be on the 7" vinyl and finally the last 1 min should be on poor quality floppy 7" one sided grey vinyl.
