How do you know they're a real Smiths fan?
How do you know David Cameron isn't a real Smiths fan? Because he's posh? The star of the photograph might be posh.
And aren't posh people allowed to like The Smiths? How about black people?

THE student protest picture is now on www.true-to-you.net so both Marr and Morrissey are impressed.
If the person in the pic wants to send me a private message I have some news for them.

I originally thought it was a Boston Globe Photo, but the attribution is to Oli Scarff of Getty Images - so if all else fails, it might be worth having a word with him.

Really. How exciting. What have they won?
-a week end with James Cameron?
-all their student expenses (except socks) paid for by Morrissey and Marr?
-an interview with a silly journalist?
-their weight in beans on toast?
:guffaw:
This is getting a tad silly now; what is it? A protest or a raffle?

The protestor's name is Lauren Fulwood Willoughby & she's a third year philosophy student at Oxford. She originally attended Marlborough College (the same school as Kate Middleton - fiance of Prince William) & is a distant decendant of Clementina Drummond-Willoughby, 24th Baroness Willoughby de Eresby.

That has ruined it for me, only messing.
Just because she is wealthy it doesn't mean her heart isn't in the correct place.
The reason I sometimes go off "on one" about people like xfactor contestants,Preston and David Calamity is becasue the xfactor people tend to be middle class kids with no real idea, whom are shallow and controlled by fashion who only use Morrissey as a starting point to further there careers as is Preston, in fact more so with him.
"Dave", should stopped is taking the country down the wrong road

David Cameron is barred outside the gates of Smithdom for what he believes and what he is actively trying to accomplish, not merely because he's Conservative.

David Cameron is barred outside the gates of Smithdom for what he believes and what he is actively trying to accomplish, not merely because he's Conservative.
There's a possibility that David Cameron may have been involved in a student protest against tuition fees when he was at University were it not for the small matter of tuition fees not being introduced until Labour brought them in in 1998, along with abolishing the grant & replacing it with a 100% repayable loan.
In 2004, Labour increased tuition fees by the same percentage that the Tories are about to.
Before 1998, education authorities were legally obliged to provide full time Universtiy students with a non repayable maintenance grant. This was part of the 1962 Education Act brought in by a Conservative Government.
Can we not at least agree that Cameron is just PART of the problem & not the START of it?

As for "Dave". its not just the student loans issue, it's this issue mixed with everything else he has set out.
Plus, of course the lim dems went against what they first set out.
On PMs questions-
David Calamity to Ed Miliband "You will always be a student politician "
Ed to Calmaitiy " I WAS, a student politian and I am proud of it. At least I didn't go around throwing bead rolls and recking restaurants".

My MP is LibDem & voted against.
David Davis, the Tory minister also voted against. He should've been bloody leader. I took Cameron saying to Uncle Ed 'you'll always be a student politician' to mean 'because you'll never graduate to the big time (as in PM)'
Which is probably right. Only Alan Johnson can get Labour elected next time around.

I hate it when people call them a student band as they are not, students may like them but none of them went to uni- they are just bright working class boys- well johnny and Moz at least

The protesters know that Britain has the highest number of CCTV on the streets in Europe.
I believe that they are fully aware of their responsibilities and the consequences, otherwise they didn't take part in the demo.
Don't worry, the protester in the photo can afford to hire a powerful lawyer to represent her case.

I also don't have an issue with privileged people some people say the poor and the rich are the most like minded in England it's the ones in the middle that have to be watched.
I also, don't have an issue with middle class people, to some I am middle class, I have a nice house in one of the more sought after cities in England- I would reject this as I do feel you are how you were bought up and the working classes did have their own culture (dead now) so it's not or wasn't about simply a money bracket.
There is no North/ South divide, it's the South East and the rest of the country that is divided.
The reason wealth and people coming from comfy streets is an issue with some Smiths and Morrissey fans is because The Smiths were very much a Working class band, none of them went to uni. Morrissey,as rich as he is, also continues to be working class in his mindset

I do agree with you, but the idea that some people have that you can't be 'working-class' and go to university in this day and age is ludicrous. I come from a tiny terraced house in London but I go to a (supposedly) good art school which as it is charges the maximum fees possible. Still, there's no correlation between where you come from and where you can go, I don't think. The fees are already enormous at my uni, but obviously the 'poorer' you are, the more financial assistance you (quite rightly) will get, plus nobody has to pay their student debts until they're in a position to do so. People are behaving as if bailiffs are going to be turning up on future graduate's doorsteps.

I'm going to fix quote codes of your posts in this thread.
You should click Quote on the right bottom rather than C & P.
If you prefer C & P, make sure to add [quote] at the begining
and add / in between [ and

Thank you very much.

Interesting huh?

Oh, and face off against riot police, too, I suppose.
All this stuff about being "posh" I don't understand at all, but I'm pretty sure it's a carryover from a recent discussion about Marr's comments about David Cameron, hence the perceived intensity. Nothing personal intended. If you'd like to change the topic, get someone to ask if Morrissey is gay or not. All other threads will immediately be forgotten in a berserk cage match. :)

It could be said that there's no such thing as a class system in Britain any more. Well, not one that's easily definable anyway.
A minority upper class, a majority, wishy-washy middle class and then what some people refer to as 'the underclass.' Either the working class are obsolete or the boundaries have just changed.
The upper class though, well, they can just f**k off.

I don't know if what you say about the class system is true or not, but if a revolution ever comes along-- it may well not-- its ranks will be full of young people born after The Smiths split up, couldn't live without their iPods, love their lattes, and buy their t-shirts at the mall. Contradictions are to be expected, even apparently profound ones. That's why all this flap about the girl being "posh" is silly.

I'm not sure if what I say about class is true either, it's just a theory based on observation.
I'm one of those young victims of the times. (Lattes though? behave.) Would I participate in said revolution though....I'd probably just turn it on its head staying in bed to be fair.
Now apparently the girl in the photo isn't 'posh.' It shouldn't matter but for many it does... someone who was born with a silver spoon up their arse deciding to wear a Smiths t-shirt is a 'profound contradiction.' Sad but true.

It's the word used to describe Morrissey's sexiness or something. Frisky and kinky. It's an entire thread of Morrissey photos. It wasn't invented here, some other musician had a "frink" thread and a Morrissey fan started one up here. It's not an insult.

Considering that most of us unintentionally benefit from a global system of inequality and exploitation, the working definition of "hypocrite" has unfortunately loosened up quite a bit. It's not just the rich people in whom one can spot serious contradictions. But that really speaks to my point: the first thing we need to do is get past any rigid notions of who has a legitimate right to protest and who doesn't.

I'm not really sure it's a question of 'right' to protest. Somebody from a low-income family hasn't got more of right to protest against the student fees for example, but surely they do have a licence to be angry. More of a licence than Tarquin and Tatty have because it won't effect them as deeply.

after taking another look at this photo it's starting to lose it's impact. The police seem to be oblivious to her ranting or whatever she's doing standing on that barricade. They're just standing there doing their job and she seems to be the only one in the photo in an uproar. It looks very orchestrated. I think I was initially taken in just because of the smiths t shirt and the recent silly business with David Cameron which is kinda much a do about nothing anyway. I couldn't give a shit if Hitler loved the smiths. The photo just seems a little too perfect. Someone is holding her up, no one is in the way of that perfect view of the smiths t shirt. I'm sure the sentiment is genuine but it seems staged. Take the smiths shirt out of the equation and no one would bat an eyelid including Moz & Marr.
