I stopped off at Keele motorway service station on the M6 southbound yesterday, on my way to Stratford for a bit of culture. The place was crawling with police - hundreds, in riot gear. Felt very uneasy.

Then I noticed there were loads of thugs knocking about; 'typical' football hooligan / casual types, and there were loads with hoodies that read "English Defence League XXX division" - they were from Leeds, Bradford, West Yorkshire, North West.

It felt very tense. And I was relived to get out of there.

So, home today, Google news the EDL to see there was a protest / riot in Stoke yesterday http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1245700/Six-protesters-charged-clashes-English-Defence-League-demonstration.html

Worrying times ahead... Election year, recession and a resurgent BNP.

It's good to see that many Stoke residents came out in opposition to the EDL - take a look at the 7th image "Oatcakes not Racism" - only in Stoke :D http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/stoke/hi/people_and_places/newsid_8476000/8476851.stm
