Season Nine kicks off tonight! :guitar:

Paula's out , Ellen's in :thumb:, and this is Simon's last season :(.

Boston auditions tonight, Atlanta tomorrow. Who's gonna tune in for talent and trainwrecks? :guitar: Maybe someone will cover a Moz toon. I always hope.

I bet Ellen makes it awesome, though I wondered what made her a credible judge of music other than being an avid listener and having some secret tie to the show since she always gets the people voted off on her own show, but at least she'll add some much needed dry humor to the experience.

The effects of this show on pop music culture will only be observed from a distance, but it hasn't produced anything of any artistic value or worth. The entire point of the show is to see Simon insult someone while Paula gargles vicodin and cries. I would watch it if they got rid of the "musical" performances.

I've decided to watch this season. Havent followed one since the year of the Sanjaya. I'm curious as to how Ellen will do.

I used to like Ellen but when her show became all about her being a lesbian, and wasn't funny anymore, and then got canceled, and they tried to act like it was because she was being persecuted for being a lesbian instead of just not being funny, I didn't like her anymore.

From what I've observed, the winner basically sings at the Super Bowl and maybe on an Ellen special or an American Idol special and that's about it.

I think the real effect is on all the singers that try to be Christina Aguilera-esque, and perform vocal tricks, instead of singing the song. Not sure if this is still happening in pop music but there was a lot of it for a while.

You're not into pop coloratura? Actually, I hate to say but in the middle when she asks the crowd to sing the second time? She kinda sounds Morrisseyish, the back-of-the-throat style he has. :o

I like that song, actually. :o I'm not a Christina hater.

But her style is easy to imitate poorly, and whenever I heard American Idol there were people on it that did just that.

okay. in a ceramics class I remember a test question,

T or F: A pot with bad form can be fixed with decoration?

Ohhhh, good one. FALSE!

Yeah, they do that a lot. It's irritating. I'm not sure if this applies, but I was flipping through a Nordstroms catalog this morning and I noticed that Juicy Couture has hopped on the "canvas bag earth first" bandwagon, except for some reason Juicy Couture canvas bags cost $90. Actually this doesn't apply at all...nevermind. :o But I typed it all out so I'm going to post it anyway. :D

My point was going to be that a Juicy Pink logo doesn't make a canvas bag any more valuable, or something like that.

No. You should get a discount for walking around advertising their product. But it's better than those sweatpants that say "juicy" on the butt. Maybe I'm being too literal, but I think the ideal moisture point for a butt is less than juicy.

I read a great article about Coco Chanel that said she was the inventor of status branding as we know it. At that point when you bought the designer name merchandise it was made with the best materials available. She used these materials but not exclusively, and would also use glass and rhinestones, sometimes in fine gold settings where you might expect only precious gems would be used. She did not charge less. It was no longer about inherent value.

The article went on to say that some designer brands like Louis Vuitton are sometimes of lesser quality than the bootleg version of the same thing, where it will be held to a more rigorous standard. Supposedly, according to this article, people that shop at stores that sell Louis Vuitton are not that discriminating, but shoppers that look for it at a shop that is less reputable are more likely to inspect the merchandise rigorously to see that it stands up to some mostly imaginary standard of quality.

I like her, she's honest & actually knows what she's talking about. Gives some good advice/constructive critisim. I can't wait to see how Ellen does, as if the show needs more humor than the contestants themselves. ;) but she'll offer something fresh & funny. I hope she dances. :D Randy always makes me laugh cuz he can't contain his laughter at the cwazies!:lbf:.

I heard it might be the LAST of Idol altogether. Aw Seeker, you don't you (like to) believe in the American dream? Isn't (some parts of) Idol inspiring? Don't you like to laugh at the tone deaf lunatics? ;) This is one of my family shows. Watch for my kid in 2016 auditioning with a Morrissey tune.

We would watch it more, but prefer not to sit through all the "bleeps" and blacked out hand/finger gestures, etc. There are more suitable things for the young ones to watch, like a frying pan in a cartoon cat's face via the exploits of Tom and Jerry. That never gets old or tiresome.

I'm sorry, but Ellen is not honest. When she got a dog from a rescue organization and filled out a form about the home it would live in (her home) and then gave it to her hairdresser, the organization took the dog back.

Remember this is the dog she gave away. So what did Ellen do? She went on her show and CRIED about the dog that she GAVE AWAY, and this organization that rescues animals had to deal with thousands of calls from the type of morons that think that Ellen's dancing is wacky good time entertainment.

She's a typically useless celebrity who feels entitled, and expected to have people care about a dog that she didn't care about herself. How many animals suffered or died because of her selfish response to this 'problem' and causing this agency to spend time and money on dealing with it? Maybe she placed the dog in a good home, but she broke the rules, got caught, and then felt offended that her celebrity wasn't enough for her to get away with it. Yes, the agency was partly responsible, and might have handled it differently, but she was completely selfish and did not care about the repercussions of her actions.

Yes this is off-topic, but it's one of three things I think of when I see her. The third is the way, when Elton John was on her show, she sat there at the piano while he sang some wretched version of some crusty old hit, and stared into his eyes with this worshipful expression. It creeped me out and I was seeing it on television. I'm surprised he didn't have a panic attack.

I only watch the show with all the rejects if I even watch at all. After that i could care less. I can't stand Ellen so even if I did watch wouldn't any more. She's not funny at all, rambles on too much. It will take her over 10 minutes to say if she likes someone or not.

You're welcome. :) This slag is kind of over the auditions already this year, I'm ready for Hollywood & Ellen. Last night -Chicago- was their biggest crowd and only 13 tickets were handed out. Better luck tonight in Orlando.

Nobody really worth mentioning from last night except for this Tiny Tim wannabe.:lbf: He sang for the troops!??:eek: They thought going to war was bad...

Avril is an idiot.

I thought Katy Perry was funny (and GORGEOUS!) but I'm not a fan of her music at all. That said, at least she was a decent judge.

I like Ellen. I think she's funny and will bring some entertainment to the show, but I also think she'll be too concerned with hurting people's feelings (like Paula) to really be a good, quality judge.

Avril lavinge looked like the little rat she is. Punk rock? Come on now. You sang Skater Boi. Pack your little horns up in your old kit bag and skedaddle.
Katy Perry looks like an old drag queen. Posh looked like an insipid, dehydrated old twig.
I liked Doogie Howser but he didnt agree with Simon, so byebye.
I miss Paula but I like Randy and Kara. I don't know much about Ellen, but she gets on my nerves already.
Bring back Adam Lambert. I still can't believe that other guy won. I thought it was a bad dream.

The finale was uncharacteristically over-the-top end to such a lackluster season. Simon's departure is the nail in the coffin to the growing irrevelancy of the American Idol franchise. (Note it was irrevelant seasons ago, but I loved it the same way I do the Tyra show(

I will be watching the X-factor...
