Michael Sheen. Is an expert at impersonating famous people and would probably resemble Moz with a bit of make up and a quiff.

Afraid there is too much of bambi in his smile (Mr. Sheen) and don't believe he has frinkpotential, sorry!
Should play the singers from Green Day or the Killers

Glancing over this quickly, I read it as Martin Sheen and thought, boy, he'll need more than a BIT of makeup...

:D
But I sort of like the prospect of an "I'm Not There"-esque scenario, with different actors/actresses playing different bits of his life. Except NOT like "I'm Not There" in the potentially confusing breakdown of little bits of Mozzer's attitude and lifestyle and expounding THEM into separate fictional life stories, thus making it not really a biopic at all :o
Johny Depp maybe, nah:(

If one gets to pick anybody from the entire history of film I'll go for Dirk Bogarde or James Dean. Both iconic enough, both incredibly handsome, both brooding and not too unlike Mozzer. Looks-wise.

But I really can't think of anyone who could capture Morrissey's voice.
And the elusive "Frink" factor.
He's just too distinctive.
I think most modern actors would resort to parody *cringe*

Ben Whishaw, no question.
In photos there is a slight resemblance, but in body language the likeness is sometimes uncanny.
Not only that, but he's a Morrissey fan - he based his Sebastian Flyte on Moz.
Here's a clip from an interview about his role as Keats in Bright Star (in which he was superb):

He has been looking quite Moz-esque recently.
Perhaps Joaquin Phoenix? There is a pretty strong resemblance, and he did his singing bit in Walk The Line. Although he did recently announce retirement.

There is no one beautiful and handsome enough - or with a streak of wild naturedness about them.
However, there is one person that comes a lowly 'second' - no offence intended. But I will cast . . . .
JONATHAN RHYS-MEYERS
He is a blue blood Irish actor with real blue eyes, and can portray a 'wild' natured character with subliminal excellence.
JR-M - will be my choice for my film.

I don't know if Day-Lewis could be "made down" to look young enough, but he's certainly a good enough actor to do Morrissey justice. Except that portraying Morrissey would require a fundamental understanding of Morrissey and I don't think anyone has that, not even Himself.
He has been looking quite Moz-esque recently.
Perhaps Joaquin Phoenix? There is a pretty strong resemblance, and he did his singing bit in Walk The Line. Although he did recently announce retirement.

Phoenix could do it, if the sacrilege of a Californian playing Morrissey could be borne.
The point is that resemblance in a still photograph is only a fragment of what is needed. We need to see how the actor comes alive as Morrissey.
But I'm not sure there should be a film about Morrissey. That's why there are albums. Just go listen to those, he put everything in there.

Contradictory to what some of you guys think, Daniel Day Lewis looks very Morrissey like. Remember, a biopic is not supposed to be an episode of Stars In Their Eyes! The actor needs to channel the energy, personality of the character and add visual likeness to some extent.
However, I would like to see some new freshly picked talent. I really really loved the black and white film Control about Ian Curtis and his band Joy Division...

I've always thought D.D. Lewis would be fantastic playing Morrissey, and yes, he does look very much like him (even down to his smile lines) except for an admittedly massive difference in the nose. With CG as it is nowadays you wouldn't even need prosthetics -- you could film him as is.
To the user that does the perfect Photoshop mock-ups of Moz as different characters -- do Lewis' face w/Moz nose. Por favor.

Resurrecting this thread in light of the 103.1 radio show's call for potential names to play young/"mature" Morrissey in a film.
I think this guy might have been mentioned before, but UK actor Ben Miles looks like he could play a great Vauxhall~present day Moz. He played opposite Kevin Spacey (another potential mature SPM) in Richard II.
