OK folks. It's the end of the year and time for a round-up, so let's have your nominations for your albums of the year.

It's not been a vintage year, but there have been a few gems. I have two albums that I keep going back to.

"Sigh No More" from Mumford and Sons

"Judy Sucks A Lemon For Breakfast" from Cornershop

Any thoughts or alternative suggestions?

Is "Years of Refusal" allowed? If so, that's my number one choice and one of only two new albums released in 2009 that I actually listened to.

The other would be Third Eye Blind's "Ursa Major." That album is well described as a super-nova. It kinda builds up after a few listens, really explodes for the next few, and simply fades away thereafter. I loved it at the time; it was a beautiful show.

Not to be pedantic but i think that was 2008.

Super Furry Animals - 'Dark Days/Light Years' deserves a mention.

Also The Clientele - 'Bonfires On The Heath'.
Andrew Morgan - 'Please Kid, Remember'. (If you like Elliott Smith you'll adore this)

1. It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs

2. Yes by Pet Shop Boys

8. Far by Regina Spektor
9. Rocket Science by Apoptygma Berzerk
10. My Love for You Is a Cheap Pop Song by Kumisolo

ps: I am interested in knowing what percentage of the artists on my top 10 list people here even know
my guess is that little of it is known to Mozzers, except maybe some ones also in jpop or electro pop of some kind :blushing:

wow, thats interesting, most Western? fans of any music from Japan would have heard of:
http://www.showwallpaper.com/external/Japanese_Star/Utada_Hikaru/Utada_Hikaru_040009.jpg
she is one of the most popular singers of all time to sing in Japanese
her style more heavily R&B influenced than anything else though
as for breaking things down into specifics like "jrock" :guitar:
that is where the roots of my love for music from Japan come from
bands like Boredoms, P5, Pillows & Shonen Knife(who I have seen many times :))
I wonder even about these distinctions between jpop, jrock or "jhop"
I mean, I've loved every band Kawase Tomoko has had
but cannot tell you what "genre" buri guri is or Tommy heavenly6 and I assume that most of my fave stuff of hers as

Will post mine tomorrow (am away from my iTunes) - but the only way Years Of Refusal should make anyones top five, is if you've only listened to five albums all year :-(
Morrissey would be in mine, perhaps out of respect and loyalty, but if we're honest with ourselves...

I really love the Boredoms, especially their Chocolate Synthizer album (which I have twice) Although, listening to the Choc. Synth album, there was a running joke where I used to work 'Who the hell would give them money to get off their tits and scream random Japanese words down the mic?'
Well, I would for starters.

Shonen Knife.. I'm still looking for a track called 'Blue Oyster Cult' if anybody could help me then I'll repay in ...Many thank you's...

Annnd... there was a Japanese pop band but I've forgotten what they're called... Oh, and Moshi Moshi is good.

okay...top 6 or 7...or

the xx
not quite the second coming it's made out to be, and the album tracks are better than the singles...but a pretty unique (by way of 17 Seconds) record, and when they hit their groove they really nail it

Cold Cave-Cremations & Love Comes Close
two very good and very different albums by Cold Cave. Cremations is fairly harsh industrial while LCC is dancey synthpop gold.

Former Ghosts-Fleurs
creepy/haunting minimalist electro

The Antlers-Hospice
a grower.

Micachu-Jewellery
walks the fine line between annoying and awesome (stays mostly on the awesome side)

Late Of The Pier-Fantasy Black Channel
really fun way to kill time before the new Klaxons album

The Horrors-Primary Colours
the album is maybe a little over produced, but great nonetheless

EPS
Small Black
dreamy shoegaze noise

Warpaint-Exquisite Corpse
really great music made by really annoying hipsters

Crayon Fields - All The Pleasures Of The World
Camera Obscura - My Maudlin Career
Leisure Society - The Sleeper

Morton Valence - Bob and Veronica Ride Again

Those stood out for me, in a year of great releases.
