Isn't the opening to Fantastic Bird on the Revelation album the same opening as on Death of a Disco Dancer?

My apologies if this has already been discussed in a thread but I didn't see it.

I may be off that it is "...Disco Dancer" but it is sure familiar sounding

It's very similar, yes.
Achieved, no doubt, in the same method. The question is if Morrissey noticed this and/or if/why it was done purposefully.

I thought I have ever heard the Bird's opening.

It definately sounds very similar. I would be hard pressed to believe that Morrissey wouldn't notice it.

It's not an uncommon or difficult sound effect - it's achieved by scraping the plectrum beyond the bridge, close to the ties, and pulling over the strings. But, as has been said, it's hard to believe it wasn't in the Moz mind.

I've got both songs on my MP3 player & what I like to do is put it on shuffle then see if I can work out which 'scrape' it is before the song proper begins.

Of course, now I've got used to Fantastic Bird, it's quite easy.

I think its shorter than "Death Of"....

It is. But only because the scraping in "Fantastic Bird" ceases soon once the main guitar part begins. In "Death of A Disco Dancer," Marr's scraping continues into Andy's bassline.
