Decent opener today, against a team playing 11 behind the ball. It's what we've come to expect when we play teams wearing blue, though.
Owen should have opened his account today, though i'm sure it won't be long til he actually does (Burnley).
Berbatov should have appealed when that player stood on his foot, instead of carrying on in the box.
Rooney's looking lethal in the air, few headers, one that resulted in his goal.
Valencia's settled in really well, and no doubt he'll assist alot of goals this season for our forwards.

Is there still time to sell Berbatov before window closes?
kyleleonard
August 16, 2009, 02:40 PM
People find it easy to make Berbatov out to be a scapegoat, because he doesn't run around for 90 minutes being as effective as a chocolate fireguard (Tevez), but last season he was involved in over 30 goals, finishing the season as the Premierships's top assist-man.
He'll still be here, come September, and he will yet again score some very important goals for Manchester United, helping us to our fourth consecutive title.

Sir Alex is confident Wayne Rooney's goal against Birmingham City on Sunday will be the first of many this season for the England striker.
Rooney's goal – a simple tap-in after his header had come off the post – took his tally in a United shirt to 99 and gave the Reds an opening-day win for the first time in three years.
"Wayne took his goal well," Sir Alex told MUTV. "The header was a good one and then he reacted the right way – he was quick to follow up. That gets him on the road to what we hope will be a very significant total for us this season.
"It’s good if you can get two or three of your players to score more than 20 goals. Wayne’s capable of that – we’re not asking him to do the impossible."

I thought he did well today for the most part. He freed up Nani on the right for the cross and eventual goal. He had one header that beat the keeper only to be saved by I-can't-remember-whom. There was one penalty that wasn't called. I thought he did exactly what a striker's supposed to do today.
Watching him certainly can get annoying on occasions because it looks like he just can't be bothered half the time, but I think he's just really deceptive as to how good his game really is.

BURNLEY 1 - 0 MANCHESTER UNITED

http://i29.tinypic.com/24lo4tu.jpg
----------------
Sir Alex Ferguson found fault with his players’ decision making on Wednesday night after a bad day at the office allowed Burnley to inflict a shock defeat on the champions.
The Reds were at times too rash, at other times too hesitant, when opportunities to cancel out Robbie Blake’s stunning goal for Burnley presented themselves.
“We were too frivolous with the chances we had,” Sir Alex told MUTV.

Less than a month ago, Burnley was in Southern California, playing a fourth-tier, semi-professional American soccer team on a high school football field made of artificial turf. Yesterday, the English soccer club defeated mighty Manchester United, 1-0, in its first home game in the Premier League.

Nemanja Vidic is set to make his first appearance of the season for Manchester United in the Barclays Premier League match at Wigan.
Vidic suffered an ankle injury during the warm-up to a pre-season game in Munich last month but has trained without a problem for the last 10 days and will take his place in a central defence that will miss Rio Ferdinand (thigh) for another three to four weeks.

United returned to winning ways in style as Wayne Rooney reached and embellished a century of United goals, while Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Owen - with his maiden Reds strike - and Nani sealed a handsome victory at the DW Stadium.
An end-to-end first half failed to yield any goals, but a glut of second half goals sealed a 10th successive victory over Wigan - with the undoubted highlight coming as substitute Owen got off the mark with a sublime finish as United reacted positively to Wednesday's embarrassing defeat at Burnley.

Wayne Rooney and Sir Alex Ferguson praised Darren Fletcher’s inspirational display during United’s enthralling 2-1 victory over Arsenal at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted to see his side “dig deep” and turnaround Arsenal’s 1-0 half time lead to clinch an important victory.
United went behind to a fine strike from Andrei Arshavin at the end of the first half, but the Reds stepped it up a gear after the break. “We like to win, and win by playing well," said Sir Alex. "Both are important. I think we did that in the second half and deserved to win based on that performance.”

Manchester City are in dangerous form ahead of next Sunday's derby at Old Trafford, following a fourth win in their opening four games.
Emmanuel Adebayor has netted in all of those matches, after grabbing the Blues' third goal in their 4-2 victory over his former club Arsenal. Craig Bellamy, Shaun Wright-Phillips and visiting keeper Manuel Almunia with an own goal were also on the scoresheet for Mark Hughes' men. The Gunners were briefly level through Robin van Persie - thus ending City's run as the last English league side not to have conceded this season - but Tomas Rosicky's late strike was no more than a consolation.
Chelsea maintained their 100 per cent start to the season after coming from behind to beat a stubborn Stoke City side 2-1 at the Britannia Stadium. Florent Malouda scored in the fourth minute of injury time to claim all three points; earlier Didier Drogba equalised in first-half stoppage

Michael Owen's injury-time winner gave Manchester United victory in a staggering seven-goal derby extravaganza against Manchester City at Old Trafford.

United deservedly won this pulsating derby in the high drama of injury time, but only after fans' nerves had been put through the mill having let City back into the game three times. The Reds should have had it wrapped up, but with the scores locked at 3-3 after 90 minutes, Michael Owen chose the most opportune time hit his first Old Trafford goal.

I still say it's early. Giggs was seemingly all but over a few years ago. It seemed that Scholes's career was all but over last year, but he's been very capable this year.
I fully acknowledge Carrick's extended dip in form, but with the need for squad rotation, he'll probably feature heavily in the league and FA cups.

Billionaires we may be, but have you seen our paltry transfer outlay in the last three seasons? You can't use that excuse for not winning the league this year. Its been a level playing field between us and you for a few years now. But if its convenient for you to think we still splash the cash then go ahead and use that.

I hope it will be, as you say, tricky. We need something from this game as we have an incredibly tough few weeks ahead. Come on the tigers.
Yes, it'll be a tricky one alright, especially with 6 defenders out injured. We need a win though to capitalise on Chelsea's draw at Brum.

Yes, any anti-United spamming will be reported on this one. Carrick, Berbatov and Giggs were shocking, but luckily Rooney pulled us through. It sounded like a good atmosphere as usual at away games. Was this so? Rafael, apart from his cock up, Brown and Vidic were impressive. Evra started off brilliantly but was walking a fine line after his booking , so he was subdued after that. Good to see the defense taking shape again, and more importantly like you said, capitalising on Chelsea's draw at Brum. This is where we usually kick on, so c'mon you Red Devils!!

Having looked at the posts you question as anti united spamming....
first one was about Dennis Law - a united legend, and features two teams...one of which is united.
The second featured two people......one of which was a united fan.
Third one was like the first one..... a game featuring 2 teams....one of which was united.
Are you saying that only posts that show united up to be the high and mighty team they believe they are can be posted on here? And that it is a thread about united but nothing negative must be posted on here?
you may as well just go away and watch MUTV if that is the case:rolleyes:

Do you think Fergie will shore up the wide mid-field position in the January transfer window?
I doubt it.
Hargreaves will be back soon and Fergie also has Fletcher, Carrick, Anderson, Giggs, Scholes and Gibson at his disposal in central midfield.
As for the wingers, well Obertan has shown a lot of potential though I am not so sure about Valencia and Park. Nani MUST go.
We could do with a good creative midfielder and a world class winger, but who is available in January and not cup tied? Fergie will wait until the summer.
I would like to see Maxi Rodriguez at United, great player.
In my opinion, we also have a weakness up front. Rooney is of course superb and his performances hide a multitude of sins by the other strikers.
Not convinced with either Berbatov or Owen, this is Berba's second season and the much anticipated improvement has not materialised so far.

Agree with most of the above, but Giggs was shocking at HUll. My little nephew who has just started playing kept saying; 'why does Giggs keep passing the ball to their team', so it wont be long before him and Scholesey are put out to grass. Nani MUST go, but I'm not convinced with Anderson. Obertan does indeed look class, whereby Berbatov I'm running out of time with.

Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has been placed on indefinite compassionate leave by the English champions after his wife had a brain hemorrhage.
The 39-year-old Dutchman, who has been absent since last month's win over Everton because of a knee injury, had already been given permission to return to the Netherlands over Christmas to receive treatment from the national team doctor.
But his 36-year-old wife, Annemarie van Kesteren, collapsed last Wednesday as Van der Sar and his family were preparing to celebrate Christmas.
"Annemarie had a problem over in Holland a week ago and has been admitted to hospital - that is the best place for her to be," said United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. "They have examined her twice and are trying to get to the root of it. I have told Edwin to stay over there. There is no point in him being here. The best thing is for him to be with his wife. Hopefully she will make a good recovery."
United, which hosts Wigan on Wednesday, is second in the Premier League.

The omens are on our side.... last time the two teams met in the League cup semi, back in 1970, City won over the two legs (thanks to a Stepney howler - it was an indirect free kick from Summerbee and he parried it straight out and Lee, Bell or Young whacked in the rebound, had he just let it fly in it would have been not given)

Terry Hall is a Chelsea supporter.
:lbf:, Terry Hall is a massive red. Apology, please or girls, just stay away from subjects you have no idea about..
A small exert from Red News fanzine; an interview with Terry Hall.
RN: The night before the 1985 Cup Final you played in Liverpool. Where was that?
TH: It was at Liverpool University with Colourfield. I was very excited about the day after and for the encore I did ‘Glory Glory, Man United’ but it was only me who did it, none of the band joined me. I had a huge United flag that I draped across me. The drummer was an Everton fan, Gary, who was in The Teardrop Explodes but he wasn't going to the Final, and I was.
RN: How did that go down then?
TH: Not very well! The odd bottle here and there but what do you do!
RN: A Gig in front of thousands of people who have come especially to see you or United winning the European Cup?
TH: European Cup. Without a doubt. I've done the pinnacle of gigging with the Specials with crowds of about 10,000 in America, which is pretty big but it really doesn't compare.
RN: Can you remember what made you support United?
TH: It was definitely the '68 final. I was 9 and up until then my Dad used to go and watch Coventry, he used to try and get me to go but I used to hate it. Even post crawling stage I knew I shouldn't be going to that crap! He took me to a couple of games but that night when I watched United-Benfica, that was like real football and it left such a massive impression.
RN: Can you remember your first match?
TH: It was at Old Trafford. We had an 4 Auntie in Bolton and her son had moved down to Coventry and he watched them and he took me up to see United-Coventry. I'm trying to think of the date and it has always bugged me but it was around 1970/71. We sat at the back of the Stretford End. From that point, it's been said many times before over the years but you get the bug. It's beyond football. You get the bug. I had to wait a couple of years before I started getting part time jobs and going more.
RN: Best game, not including Barca ‘99?
TH: The replay at Villa Park. Looking back over the Final, the semis and stuff, league vs Spurs, Villa Park was just incredible, the most incredible game I have ever been to. It was unbelievable. I remember turning to leave when they got the penalty and thinking we're out, it's gone, I couldn't bear watching Bergkamp score, and then he didn't and it was like 'there's life'. Keane going off, and then that goal...
RN: Do you collect any United memorabilia?
TH: Yeah, well your scarf has just added to it! (Aidan presents Terry with a scarf on behalf of all at RN). I used to buy a lot of silk scarfs in the 70s, there were some brilliant ones with cartoon drawings on them and all sorts, brilliant. I used to collect a lot of programmes but I've stopped doing that now because they just take up a lot of room. I like going to the fixtures at the back and who is playing who.
RN: Have you ever met any United celebs?
TH: I did a TV show with Docherty, Stuart Pearson and Gordon Hill. It was a Thames TV thing. I can't remember what it was but it was a pre-cup final thing. Docherty was such a twat to me, he was just a complete twat. We were in the green room beforehand, sitting there, you don't make any big deal that is just where you have to stay and as he was going out the door he said: "Can you keep an eye on my coat for me’. I was like ‘I'm on it with you mate!’. It was just that assuming it was all about him which is horrible.
RN: Any celebrity fans?
TH: Ian Brown, he's alright. You do meet them over the years, Angus Deayton was one. I don't know (about his support...). You just question where they have come from its like the Zoe Ball thing, you're not quite sure.
RN: Do you think it was too short a time after leaving the Specials to return with Fun Boy Three?
TH: I tell you what it was. Because the last 6 months of the Specials was so heavy all we wanted to do was get into a studio and mess about. It wasn't even for an album - it was just to try and exorcise all that shit we had been going through for a year. We never had songs or anything, we just wanted to play instruments and see what happened. Because we were contracted to Chrylasis we made a record.
RN: Do you have any advice for City fans?
TH: They are beyond advice really. Have a shave, get rid of the ‘tash!
RN: I've always likened hating Man City to like hating a man who hasn't got a cock, you just don't need to do it do you!
TH: I was once managed by a City fan and I've got two or three close friends (who are city fans) but I could never go down to their level of sourness. Well it's impossible. Kevin Cummins the NME photographer is a big City fan and he goes to a lot of games. I made him take photos of me in the NME in the mid 80s at Old Trafford. I said I wouldn't do it anywhere else and he got to do it. His face was a picture. He took three, 'that will do!'
RN: Can you sum up Fergie's reign in ten words?
TH: Patience, paid off. I remember the first game at Oxford when he first took over... He got over that spell of 'Get him out, get him out' and thankfully it was patience and now he is one of the greatest managers ever. It is impossible to dispute that no matter where you are from.
RN: What words some up Fergie?
TH: A sense of Loyalty, passion, alcohol...or horses...red nose but just a fantastic manager.
RN: What was your first United badge?
TH: It was a patch, it was like a hippy one with 'come on United'. Like the Churchill one. I used to collect patches to sew on scarfs or sew them anywhere in fact. A jean jacket. A mate we used to go with had the Butchers Coat on and it was dead weird. But you still see a few blokes at the games with them on... the old bloke with the teddy bear hat, he's still got one on.
RN: Are you still in touch with Coventry and what do you think of the music scene there?
TH: Only to go and see relatives really. There is no love lost between me and Coventry, unfortunately. I didn't feel they owed me anything and I didn't feel I owed them anything. I remember when we moved up to Stockport in '82 I did an interview with NME and they chopped it all up, but there was a headline in the Coventry Telegraph that said 'Terry the Traitor'. Freaked my Mum and Dad out, horrible.
RN: Did you ever get into any heated debates with other band members about football or were they not really bothered?
TH: They weren't really into football. None of them went, ever.
RN: How do you feel about the smoking ban?
TH: I think its ridiculous. I understand it, I understand non-smokers enjoying it and if you go to clubs now it smells really weird. You can smell people now. I've always been a smoker that if someone in the room objects I'll go outside so it doesn't bother me. I prefer smoking outside anyway.
RN: Did you shag any of them from Bananarama?!
TH: No. Can you imagine my mum reading that!
RN: Nightclub is my favourite Specials track. Which track did you enjoy performing the most?
TH: Performing it was probably Gangsters but to listen to, well not even listen to, but something that might come on the radio every now and again, is Ghost town. Every time I hear it - 20 years on - I just think’ God that was a great record’. It always shocks me, ‘God that sounds great’.
RN: Has the fact you are Terry Hall saved or caused any bother while following United?
TH: I had a slap at Anfield in the 80s. I've also had the other thing where other fans take the piss. You can put up with that. I've had 20 Everton in a service station singing "Terry, Terry give us a song" and you think 'fuck off!'. These 4 four lads once spotted me and had I not been who I was there would have been trouble, that has happened a lot. That happened at Forest years ago.
RN: Which team do you dislike the most?
TH: In the era we grew up Leeds was always a weird one and still is and now with the demise of Leeds it's fantastic. It was out and out hatred. Obviously Liverpool were a close second and City you can't be arsed with. Chelsea I don't like, I don't like their fans or the team, I never have. I was saying to Suggs actually, and Damon Albarn, 'How you can go and watch a team like that, when just walking up to the ground it is like a Nuremberg Rally’. Terrible.:lbf:
RN: What is your viewpoint on Saha?
TH: I don't know. I'm not a massive fan to be honest, I'm not convinced, its the same with Tevez it just doesn't actually feel right. With Ruud it felt dead right, there was that confidence and that confidence isn't there up front. You just don't know.
RN: Did you travel from Coventry in the 70's and what are your memories?
TH: Travelled a lot. Five or six of us used to go from Coventry and Rugby. There were a lot of games where we used to get into trouble but everybody did then. Stoke was one of the worst grounds I went to. I got hit 4 times and I got chased with a pick axe.
RN: Did you go to any games in the relegation season?
TH: I went to a few games, but looking back that was the end of the era, that was the turning point. Something had to happen again.
RN: And the start of an era. The Red Army came into its own.
TH: Unbelievable. I remember the first game back in the first division against Wolves and there must have been sixteen thousand there. It was mad. I went to Blackpool away.

Had to listen to the game on the radio. We miss the penalty but Alan Green was saying that it definitley wasn't a peno anyway. Seen the highlights after and it was a stonewall penalty. Hes entire commentary is biast being a bitter liverpool fan.

Apparently Barcelona have put in a huge bid and his wife no longer wants to stay in Manchester. If he doesn't want to play for UTD., then I say let him go. RVN wants back in the Prem. Bring him back because Berbatov has been given more chances than he deserves. I'd rather have Owen start than that geriatric. Ah well more rest, so we can go all out to become the ONLY team to win the top flight League Title 4 times on the trot. At the moment we share the record of three League Titles on the trot with Liverpool and the mighty Huddersfield. Valencia added some spark when he came on, but Fabio looks out of sorts at Left Back. Unfair on the kid, whereby he plays Rafael in his rightful position. Not nice to lose against the scum, but we have bigger fish to fry in the CL and the aforementioned Premiership.
Oh, and we play that massive club in a mickey mouse cup, which I totally forgot about. :blushing:
Nowt wrong with Wes Brown. The goal was clearly Kuszczsk's fault who should have stayed on his line as Brown pushed Beckford too wide to be able to get any power in his shot, but it didn't matter as the keeper was in no man's land and the ball barely touched the net.
Must say, I'm impressed with Leeds as an outfit and they will definitely be challenging in the Chapionship next season.

Sir Alex can stay at united as long he wants. They won the league, carling cup, world club cup and got to the final of the champions league last season, hardly a disaster of a season. This season their not playing well and missing ronaldo badly but still only 2 points off chelsea. I think Arsenal will finish third behind Chelsea and United.

No true United fan has ever called the Champions League a Mickey Mouse Cup, not even when the scousers won it.
The priority is always the league, with the Champions League a close second.
What we have all called a Mickey Mouse achievement was the 'triple' (note the use of the word 'triple' and not 'treble' ) that Liverpool won in 2001.

Maybe.. you have a point, but then something needs to be done to help refs like video technology or something
But where does it end...I think the thing to do is to accept that just as players regularly make mistakes and change the outcome of the game then as too do referees...we're only human at the end of the day.
My friend, who is a FIFA assistant ref on the Premiership week in week out, makes a maximum of 1 or 2 errors a season and when he does make these mistakes will berate himself for days. When I hear some people saying that the refs dont care and are only in it for the power, they couldnt be more wrong, believe me.
That's not to say I don't get pissed off when what I see as a "blatent" foul isnt given but at the end of the day you have to ask yourself, a) was it deliberate on behalf of the ref (i can assure you the answer is no) so b) one has to accept it as a mistake and move on...

Just back from Rooney's one-man demolition of Hull City.
Not played brilliantly but there was never a doubt as to who the winner would be.
Rooney's 4 goals deserve special mention, best English player by a long distance at the moment.
Rio played really well to say he's been away for such a long time, Hull were not exactly challenging but he did well nonetheless.
Bring on the bitters and let's see how far we can shove the Topo Gigio up Tevez' arse after we beat them. :lbf:

Rooney sends Utd to Wembley
United striker bags injury-time goal to dispose of rivals City
Wayne Rooney headed home in second-half injury-time to book Manchester United's place in the Carling Cup final after they inflicted a 4-3 aggregate victory over bitter rivals Manchester City.
City went into the second leg at Old Trafford boasting a 2-1 lead and they looked good value for next month's showpiece after restricting United in the opening 45 minutes.
However, Paul Scholes was on target early in the second period to draw United level on aggregate before Michael Carrick handed the holders the edge as his strike clipped the post on its way into goal.
City, though, would not go down without a fight and former Red Devils forward Carlos Tevez restored parity overall as he angled in a classy effort that looked set to send the match to extra-time.
But two minutes into injury-time, Rooney, who earlier missed a golden opportunity to wrap up the game, headed in from close range to set up a clash with Aston Villa at Wembley on 28th February.
This charming man.

What a cracking atmosphere last night. For a moment, I thought we were back to the late 70's and 80's. :thumb:
Plenty of tickets on general sale, coupled with City having a decent team certainly helped the cause.
Rooney and Fletch were both immense.

Derby games have little to do with form.
They can throw up all sorts of results.
In this case the better team won over the two legs.I can't see the City fans taking too badly. After all they have had years of practice.
It was a case of City talking the talk.
But couldn't walk the walk.
Of course the next shout will be how they stop Man Utd from winning the league by winning at Eastlands.
Myself I think Chelsea are looking very strong. If Utd are going to do it this year they need to put a good string of results together.Taking at least a point at Arsenal will be a good start.I think 88 points might just be enough this year the way things have been going.
We shall see.
This charming man.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1246751/Eastlands-wasteland-The-wit-wisdom-Manchester-City-chief-executive-Garry-Cook.html
Wayne Rooney's dramatic header didn't just seal a famous victory for Manchester United, it heaped further embarrassment on Manchester City Chief Executive Garry Cook who had, publicly, predicted United's demise in the Carling Cup.
Famously prone to a gaffe, the City executive has earned a reputation for using his feet, but where the likes of Carlos Tevez and Craig Bellamy use theirs on the pitch, he tends to spend time removing his from his mouth.
Here's some of Sportsmail's favourite Cook clangers …
Cook's (not so) magic ball On a recent visit to New York, Cook was addressing a group of City supporters and, oblivious to the watching cameras, stated that he believed the Eastlands club are on the way up, soon to overtake United.
He said: ‘[City will become] without doubt the biggest and best football club in the world.’ And that it was a case of, ‘Not if but when we are at Wembley having beaten Man United yet again.’
The 3-1 victory to United last night would suggest otherwise … on both counts.
Cook, the great judge of character Cook gladly accepted the job at City in June 2008 and the waiting media were, obviously, very curious to hear his views on the human rights record of owner and former Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra.
Once a Red, always a Blue: Former City owner Thaksin Shinawatra blazed a trail that was taken by Carlos Tevez - but he's great to play golf with
In a stunningly naïve reply, Cook said: ‘Is he a nice guy? Yes. Is he a great guy to play golf with? Yes. Whether he’s guilty of something over there, I can’t worry too much about....Morally, I feel comfortable in this environment.’
A year later he backtracked: ‘I have made some mistakes in my life, but I deeply regretted my failure to do proper research on Thaksin.’
Cook, the closet United fan? United in grief: Uwe Rosler and Garry Cook
With 700 people looking on at the Official Supporters Club 60th Anniversary dinner, Cook welcomed legendary striker Uwe Rosler on stage to say a few words.
The proud German - who netted 50 league goals for the club - was waiting to be inducted in the club’s Hall of Fame.
Cook then proceeded to introduce the guest of honour on stage with these words … ‘I’d like to welcome Uwe Rosler into the Manchester United Hall of Fame.’
You couldn’t make it up.
Too many Cooks Just as City embarked on a £200m spending spree last summer, Cook reiterated that Mark Hughes was the man for the job at City.
Getting shirty: Garry Cook gave Mark Hughes (left) assurances his job was safe - just before bringing in Roberto Mancini to replace him
He said: ‘We have a manager in place that we're very happy with. We have never talked to Jose Mourinho or anyone else.’
Hughes was replaced by Roberto Mancini after being sacked on December 19 – Happy Christmas.
Cook’s tough-talking Kaka? Na-na! The Brazilian turned his back on City
The world of football can be a ruthless cut-throat pace, the thing to do is not show any weakness, don’t let your opponents know you're rattled.
Oh, hang on, too late – the botched purchase of Kaka clearly got to Cook.
‘The player was clearly for sale.' He stated. ‘We had entered into a confidentiality agreement weeks ago but, in my personal opinion, Milan bottled it.'
Temper, temper.
This charming man.

In the do or die match against Arsenal we came up trumps with a devastating display of counter attacking and special mentions to Nani ( at last ) and to Wayne Rooney who scored his 100th Premier League goal in the 3-1 win over the Gunners.
To be fair the 3-1 scoreline somewhat flattered Arsenal who played as worse as I've seen them play all season, but as the old adage goes, 'you're only allowed to play as the opposition allows you to'.
United are still only 2 to 1 to win the Prem. which I think is pretty fair, as Chelsea don't look as if they are going to drop another point at the moment, unless city can spring a surprise at Stamford Bridge, where they have a terrible record.
Ahh well, United can only do their bit by keeping on winning and then, who knows?

No doubt all Man Utd fans will be happy that Hull City surprised everyone with a spirited performance last night and stopped Chelsea extending their lead at the top. Hull City were the best team in the first half and with a bit more class up front, could have even won it. I hope Utd win the title - you should have seen Chelsea whining, just because they couldn't handle the fact that City gave them a real battle.

Chelsea's equaliser seemed a little contentious, too.
What were Hull complaining about, that the whistle hadn't gone or that the FK should have been indirect?
I'm not so sure the free-kick should have been given in the first place, since advantage had been played & the ball fell to Lampard - who did take control of it initially and then went down and made a half-hearted appeal for a penalty. Either Lampard wasted the advantage by tripping over his own feet or he was taken down (by Gardner, was it?) and it should have been a penalty, because he certainly took the ball well enough.
The former scenario is, of course, what actually took place, but, either way, Chelsea shouldn't have been awarded a free-kick.
What's more, Chelsea were lucky (Ivanovic, in particular) to have completed the 90 with eleven men.
Awful refereeing throughout and it was only Chelsea who benefited.

I kept saying '3 points, 2 goals and a clean sheet - that'll do me'.
We'd played Yer-united twice and Scunny too in the cup the previous 11 days - 3 big games that took it's toll on the players, but we still won on the day and that was all that was needed.

Do you apply that logic to every game?
It's not as if United forced them into playing a game they didn't want to play. They were given the freedom to play the ball. United just sat back, absorbed the pressure and capitalised on Arsenal's mistakes. Hardly a lesson in how to play the beautiful game - an obsolete phrase in England - but it'd be foolish to expect anything more after reading your above post ('a win on the day is all that's needed', or something). You can't play 'like' total football every game, but, then, have United ever played 'like' total football? Certainly not in my lifetime. How often do United attempt to play 'like' total football? Rarely, let's say.
Besides, there's a lot of room to move between total football and playing exclusively on the break.
By-the-bye, how would my playing FIFA for too long (which I don't, incidentally) influence my ideals about how the game should be played? Or are you just throwing out baseless insults in the hope that they'll undermine my opinion?
